🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅💚💚💚🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅

This time last week, my mum Sandra Black and her close friend Marion Brown smashed through a half marathon for a charity close to both of their hearts. They annihilated it with very little preparation and deciding to simply go ahead and do it for the SECOND year, these Rob Roy Mighty Hike Mother Hikers not only showed up but these are the facts:

16.57miles
4hrs 40minutes 52 seconds
8 and 9th place out of 268 marathoners.

Macmillan Cancer Support ask everyone taking part in a Mighty Hike to pledge £250 each. The money they individually pledged personally will pay for a Macmillan Nurse for a days’ help of people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.

The Rob Roy hike half marathon of 15.7miles of paths, treks and stunnnig traditional Scottish terrain, covers from Callander to Aberdoyle and return again, and as the photos shows pure Scotland at its most glorious with additional arrays the Macmillan’s green colours!

I wanted to set up an individual JustGiving page, however both being them, (if you know them then you know!) they didn’t wish to do that simply just pledge their own donation whilst quietly doing this impressive thing………however, I thought different,so we compromised!! Well I’m not sure if they will be happy with the attention but tough. You are hard working Mother Hikers and deserve this recognition for all you do!

We (im saying we as I am presuming of course we all are!!) as their family members and friends are all incredibly proud and would ask if you wished to donate anything you can towards

A super long bit that I’m sure you are all to busy to read but……

Cancer is a Bitch and it’s time it knew it’s not wanted and it has no place to sit with us at this table of life. Below is some more information on. Local support that is out there sadly ready for any of us and our families when needed;

Macmillan Cancer Support is that incredible team you never wish you needed, or the one you never wanted to meet, but it’s the only one you need by your side for the dog fight of cancer.

Whilst I was researching more for this post, I was thrilled with ones raised but saddened at how it will never be enough for how much they do, even just in our local area.

At our local hospital NHS Grampian Aberdeen Royal Infirmary there is a dedicated citizens advice bureau. The Citizens Advice Scotland have a benefit calculator to work out all scenarios and what support and fiancical grants are available. From classes to groups to chat to other people in the exact same sotuaution that are not family, that are not your loved one who is worrying every time they see you in pain or complain of a new side affect.

Maggie's Aberdeen is also somewhere which also focus on the families that want to talk about factual and technical terms but also do not want to do that with their sister sitting next to them hooked up to chemo or discussing surgeries.

Maggie's Centres based in Aberdeen is where we all can go and we all can all be left to just.simply.be, or can cut back that plant that’s not been done. These are are the places where anyone affected by cancer is welcome – whether just diagnosed or undergoing treatment, to post-treatment, recurrence, end of life or in bereavement. Maggie's also warmly welcomes the family and friends of people with cancer.

Magpie might be here for your wardrobe refreshes, upcycling projects and when you're kitting out your home, but do you know about an important area of our work?

Gifting 🤝🫶

We work directly with Aberdeenshire Council's Social Work and Housing departments, Osprey Housing, Grampian Women's Aid and many others, to support individuals and families in need so that they can set up home and get back on their feet.

We are able to help by providing furniture and household goods (except white goods) meaning we can live by our motto of somewhere to eat, somewhere to sleep, somewhere to sit. Plus, through our work with the Aberdeenshire South Foodbank, we can provide something to eat. You can learn more about their work here:

There's a light brown cockapoo type dog running round the woods at rhu na haven Rd. Wouldn't come close enough to get it but it followed me and my dog for a good bit whimpering. It was near the big dens in the woods at 1730
