It may have taken most of our Friday to get set up only to have to do a mini tear down to prevent any potential damages from the weather that came through last night. Crossing our fingers that our tent and inventory are still standing 🤞

Paris is on the path to making a full recovery. Her blood infection which caused severe neurological symptoms: including muscle spasms, partial paralysis, and early stage organ failure is responding to medication. We are so relieved that she survived and couldn’t imagine losing her so suddenly. Without the help and support of our customers and Afghan friends we wouldn’t have been able to give her the care she needed. She is now running around, eating regularly, and back to her usual wild but sweet ways. Her twin sister London and the rest of our pack are so glad to have her feeling like herself again. She is due for a follow up vet visit when her antibiotics are complete and we are planning for her to have a tooth extraction when she is ready to tolerate it. Thank you to all of those who kept her in their prayers and contributed to her care. We will never forget your kindness in our family’s time of need. Our customers and the Afghan community are truly remarkable group of pet people!

Paris is suffering from a severe blood infection from an injury caused by a barbed wire fence. Her recovery so far has been nothing short of miraculous. When her symptoms first presented on News Years Eve she was dealing with muscle spasms and paralysis as well as early signs of organ failure. The emergency vet and all other vet recommendations we received called for intravenous antibiotics and around the clock care. Unfortunately we could not afford that for her so we have been doing the best we can at home with her. Luckily she has responded to our care and the prescribed antibiotic. On Tuesday when our regular vet opened, the Animal Clinic of Kearny, she was seen again. She was still very wobbly on her feet but miles ahead of her condition from Sunday night. Our vet prescribed an additional antibiotic because there is still concern about her high fever after 48 hrs on meds. Today she is doing about the same as yesterday as far as physical symptoms but her fever appears to be lowering. As long as she continues to recover at this pace at home she may make a full recovery. With the severity of the infection she is not out of the woods yet. A possible cause of the infection may be an infection in her mouth from a bad tooth that transferred to blood stream when she licked her wound or a very rare tetanus infection. When she is recovered from her blood infection she will need a tooth extraction. The vet is hopeful she can make a full recovery from this medical emergency within a week or two. We are so grateful for the support of our SLiK Hound customers, community of Afghan Hound owners that have followed her rescue adoption, and our dog loving friends. In our 14 years of dog ownership this is our first emergency veterinary experience. We did have an Afghan hound, Aria, that went through chemo before passing but that wasn’t as sudden as this infection is. We couldn’t imagine losing her and separating her from her sister London for the first time ever. They share such a special bond and have defied so many odds already. At this time please consider purchasing a collar in support of her recovery or if you are willing and able to contribute to her care via Venmo or directly to our vet clinic please PM us. We will provide another update in a few days pending her reaction to her new prescription and her follow up care.
