I am going to keep it real for a second…..

Rescue is breaking me down right now. I have 4 amazing boy cats that have not had a single application. These guys are the most wonderful loving cats imaginable and they have been completely looked over. At the end of the day, the responsibility of these 4 cats and their lives ultimately rests solely my shoulders. As the days, weeks and months pass by, the weight of that reality is slowly turning into the panic of “what if?”. What if no one ever wants them? What do I do then? That is the reality of being the sole owner/operator of a rescue and the fear of the “what ifs” is crushing. This is all happening while the calls and referrals continue daily for help with the hundreds of unwanted and abandoned cats and kittens. It is overwhelming 😔.

If you made it this far, thank you and please share Jamie and Ian, who as you can see love each other and cannot be separated.

Do you have a couple hours to spare today for a really good cause?
Volunteers are needed and appreciated today at Chesterfield SC, Animal Services starting at 11am. Help cleaning and disinfecting the kennel panne and remaining parts of the shelter is very much needed. The kennel panels are heavy, so having a few strong men would be great. Just please wear something you don't mind getting dirty. As previous days, we will be there for HOURS so stop by anytime of you have an hour or two that you could spare for the animals today ❤️

Look what you all did!! Holy crap! You showed up and showed out. Thank you for believing in our efforts. Operation Eradicate Parvo is officially underway at the Chesterfield Shelter. The shelter staff and volunteers busted their butt's today removing kennel panels, cleaning and pressure washing. They packed 2 days worth of work into 10 hours! Where there's a will, there's a way. Stay tuned for more updates! From the bottom of my heart, I thank each and everyone of you that made this possible. ❤️

First of all, I want to give a huge Thank You to everyone who purchased an item/s from the wishlist we posted yesterday. Words cannot describe how appreciated, and live saving, the kindness is for the Chesterfield Shelter animals. We are still in need of a few items to pull this project off. Hazmat Suits to protect our clothing from the harsh cleaning agents that will be used. A couple more paint roller sets so we can have as many hands possible putting down the epoxy paint on the walls and floors. Of course, any items that still remain on the wishlist is much needed and very much appreciated.... but, we can figure out plan B if necessary without certain items. The hazmat suits and roller sets is a must have to complete this revamp of the space. If anyone would like to send one of those items, it would a huge help. If ordered today, we still have time to receive the items from Amazon, before this Saturday morning project starts 🙂

Hey everyone, it's Casey 👋

‼️With a lifesaving plea for help‼️

It's no secret that over the past 2 years Chesterfield Shelter has been battling a very serious outbreak of the deadly Parvo disease. Close to 200 documented cases per rescues and vets. Keep in mind, this virus spreads like wildlife amongst puppies and dogs under 12 months of age that has not been fully vaccinated. So those numbers reflect litters of sometimes 5-8 that contracted the virus. The numbers can add up quickly with large litters, and death tolls can quickly stack.

Thanks to the efforts of new leadership both the new Administrator and also the temporary director, they have made it their mission to shut this disease down. They understand how important it is to do something immediately. What's the old saying in the South? " No shame in getting it, but shame in keeping it".

This weekend since Monday is a holiday, Shelter workers and volunteers are rolling up their sleeves, getting down and dirty, cleaning and disinfecting every square inch of the puppy wing. This is the area where all puppies and young dogs are housed while at the shelter. Porous items such as wood will be removed, EVERYTHING will be scrubbed, cleaned, and disinfected with appropriate cleaners. Floors and walls will be disinfected, repainted, and sealed to stop the possibility of the virus leaching from these surfaces.

It's going to be a tremendous amount of work but worth it to save future lives and protect relationships with rescue partners. Paint and cleaning agents are covered by the county, but there is several items we still need to make this possible. I have added a wishlist below. I had to chose items that will be delivered tomorrow to ensure they will be here in time. This is an open intake shelter, so we only have so much time to complete this project... only a few days.

If you could send even 1 item from the list, it would be a huge help! I understand not everyone is available to be there in person, but sending an item from the wishlist still makes you part of the efforts ❤️ Thank you all, even for taking the time to read and share🤞🤞🤞 Help us save lives!

‼️‼️ SHARE FAR AND WIDE FOR THE SAKE OF THESE ANIMALS FINDING RESCUE AND VOLUNTEER HELP‼️‼️

Yesterday I visited Chesterfield SC, Animal Services. It's bad 💔💔. There are 4 women, one in her 70s, trying to care for a 100+ animals. Chesterfield is an open intake shelter. That means, they have to take any and all animals brought in by the public. Recently a change in staff occurred, leaving the shelter extremely short handed. The 4 current employees are busting their butt to provide care for all of the animals. I was there most of the day yesterday, and not one of them stopped for lunch or to take a much needed break. The current problem isn't the employees, it's lack of help from the county officials and residents. For years, Chesterfield County has delt with an overwhelming overpopulation problem of animals. Lack of spay and neuter from residents, lack of programs and updated ordinances from the county, leaves this shelter a dumping ground for irresponsible pet owners. Diseases is running rampant due to overcrowding and lack of maintenance. The floors in a once million dollar shelter now sit porous, bare concrete in most areas, due to lack of maintenance maintaining. Many kennels sit rusted from cleaning agents, and need polls and wire replaced. I visit a lot of shelters, and I am sadden to say, this one has regressed 10 years or more in the last few years. Meanwhile in 2025, other government run shelters move forward with pride, providing a safe haven for the animals in their care, a maintained environment, and public solutions that help control the overpopulation problem. We all know, you cannot rescue and adopt your way our of an overpopulation problem . The only solution is to spay and neuter and implement ordinances. Without these two solutionsin place, the overpopulation of animals continues to increase year after year. Repeating an endless worsening cycle of unnecessary suffering, wasted tax dollars for euthanasia, and a stressful work environment for employees. Currently a fact well Proven by Chesterfield County.

Let me just repeat myself again, this is not current employee or Animal Controls fault. This is a County/resident problem. At this time, there is many needs at the shelter, but the biggest need is rescue and volunteer help. Volunteers from both inside and outside the county. Residents have to step up and help offer solutions for the problem in their own County. These animals do not deserve this. VOLUNTEER! The staff is begging for volunteer help. They cannot not do this alone. I’m begging you, if you’ve ever volunteered at this shelter, rescued from this shelter, donated, or adopted….. please give them another chance. I know many of you have had bad experience under prior leadership, but that has now changed. The current temporary director wants the help, she wants to make things better, but it has to happen NOW. Please take 2 hours out of your schedule once a week to volunteer at this shelter. The animals and employees desperately need the help. Its going to take a village, but I know with help from the public, this shelter can once again be what it once was. The animals need you. Every resident and Government official of Chesterfield County SC needs to make the shelter a priority immediately. I cannot stress enough these animals need help, and I urge you all to go help and see for yourself.

Guys, I'm drowning in abandoned animals over here. I have Victoria the dog attack cat who is recovering from dozens of puncher wounds. Chance who was found behind a business in Pageland SC almost dead. Anemic, covered in lice, fleas, and was battling a nasty virus that caused him to run high temperature. I gave him round the clock care for almost 2 weeks before he started to bounce back. Baby Breyers was left in an ice cream container outside a fellow rescuers house. Someone left her and her siblings (who unfortunately didn't make it) beside the gate near the road. The rescuers was out of town at the time, so Breyers is lucky her husband found her, and even luckier to be alive. Also, the puppy August that was found in the bottom of a dumpster at an apartment complex in Pageland SC.... and now the 9 day old kitten dumped as a donation at a thrift store in Monroe NC 😞

Supply wise, I am good, but Violet's House Cat Rescue has taken a huge hit with medical these past few months. Donations are down, long-term fosters are in needed, and request for emergency cases are received almost hourly. If you could spare a couple bucks towards medical, it would be greatly appreciated. Medical treatment, dewormings, vaccines, flea/tick meds, microchip, combo testing, spay and neuter, formula, fecals, all minimum needs for each animal in our care. This isn't counting transport funds, leg and eye removals, and treatment of many more illnesses and issues we deal with frequently.

If you could spare a few dollars it would be a huge help, and greatly appreciated ❤️ **Check out the Videos in comments***

***You guys are amazing! Scanners are taken care of! Other items are still in needed.***

Reaching out to my Facebook village with a somewhat unusual request.
Chesterfield County Animal Control Officers could use some supplies to more efficiently help the animals they receive calls about. Especially microchip scanners to help reunite lots pets with their owners. Currently, they have to drive the animal all the way to the shelter, where he/she is held and checked there. Not only does this take up much needed kennel space at the shelter, but also takes up much needed time the officer could be using on other calls.
If they had a chip scanner, pets who are microchipped could be returned home in a fraction of the time.

Chesterfield County SC is 806 miles total. Two AC officers services the entire county. Towns include Cheraw, Chesterfield, Jefferson, McBee, Mount Croghan, Pageland, Patrick, and Ruby. That's alot of ground to cover daily. The animal control department has a relatively small budget itself to operate. Animal Control and the Animal Shelter is two completely different departments in Chesterfield County. Animal Control Officers have been working hard for the well-being of the animals, and the supplies on the wishlist below is much needed and appreciated.

Supplies will be shipped directly to the AC officers themselves, so they can start using the items immediately. Let's help these guys and the animals. Rural County Animals deserve help as well. ❤️

Link to wishlist will also be posted in the comments 🙂
Picture is one of the Chesterfield AC officers transporting a lost dog to the shelter. Notice how puppy is riding in the air conditioning and not a box. 👏👏

Let me brag on the solar setup in the feral house... just one more time! One of the ceiling mounted solar fans also has a light! It makes it super easy for me to go out at night and take care of the cats inside. For everything who donated these items, or funds towards them, you all have made my life so much easier. The first few days I had the kittens in there, I had to use a headlamp to go out at night. The light on the fan also allows me to spend extra time socializing them after the sun goes down! Again, THANK YOU everyone who made this possible. I am very grateful for your kindness and help ❤️

Facts about orange cats to start your Monday morning!

Ever wonder what makes orange cats so special? Spoiler alert: It’s in their DNA! 🧬🧡 Let’s break it down.

🐾 80% of orange cats are BOYS. Why? The orange gene is linked to the X chromosome. Males only need ONE copy to be orange, but females need TWO! That’s why ginger girls are rare!

🐾 No such thing as a solid orange cat. Every single orange cat is a tabby—even if their stripes are faint. The gene for solid orange fur? It doesn’t exist.

🐾 Freckles, freckles everywhere! A lot of orange cats get little black spots on their nose, lips, and gums as they grow. It’s called lentigo—and yes, it’s 100% adorable.

🐾 Orange cats = extra social? Studies suggest male orange cats tend to be friendlier and bolder than other cats. Coincidence? Science says maybe not!

🐾 Some are bright orange, some are creamy. Why? It’s all about pheomelanin, the pigment that creates orange fur. Some cats have more, some have less. That’s why you see different shades of ginger!

🐾 Big boys, big attitudes. Male orange cats tend to be larger than other cats. In the wild, bigger size = more dominance. Maybe that’s why they act like they own the place.

🐾 Sun addicts! 🌞 Orange cats LOVE warmth. Their fur absorbs light differently, making them naturally drawn to sunny spots and warm blankets.

🐾 They TALK. A lot.Ever notice orange cats seem extra chatty? Some owners swear they’re the most vocal felines out there. Science hasn’t confirmed it—but orange cat parents KNOW.

🐾 They might live longer? Some research suggests coat color could be linked to lifespan. Bigger size = survival advantage. But at the end of the day, health matters more than fur color!

🐾 They’ve been loved for centuries. 🏺 Ancient cultures believed orange cats brought luck, warmth, and prosperity. They knew what was up!

Orange cats = tiny tigers with BIG personalities. If you have one, you already know...
