Happy New Year everyone! Here is a few of our 2024 saves. Each of these animals have a story. From starving on the streets, illness, neglect, and abandonment. 2025 and every year after, will now be a better year for each animal pictured below.... because of you. Their lives have forever been changed because a village offered kindness. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who donates supplies, contributes to medical, fosters, transports, and adopts. Without your kindness, rescue would not be possible. Also, a huge THANK YOU to Violet's House Cat Rescue and the Misfits wonderful vet Dr Taylor and Dr Jones at Sandy Memorial Animal Hospital. Violet's House and the vets, both make it possible to take the hard cases. The perfectly unperfect. The ones that need extra love, support, and care, to erase the neglect and heal from their past. Thank you everyone 💓

We are now collecting gifts for our 5th annual toy drive/ Santa's Helper event!

Thanks to everyone's donations in the past, we have been able to help hundreds of families! Providing Christmas gifts, food, and much needed items for the elderly, over these past 5 years! We focus on a rural area in SC where many hardworking families qualify for no assistance, but their paychecks can only stretch so far. With the rising cost of rent, groceries, and utilities, we are seeing a greater need in many blue collar areas this year.

As always, Misfit Farms/ HOAL is teaming up with Violet's House Cat Rescue to help as many families possible. Shanin Trivanovic and her family have participated since the beginning. We believe every child deserves a gift at Christmas, and our elderly neighbors should have basic supplies and hygiene items they need.

I have provided a wishlist below of items I know certain children on our list would love. You are also welcome to send any item (even if not on the list) for boys and girls ages 2-15. We always take advantage of department store sales around this time of year as well. We love to get the most items for our budget! If you would like to make a donation towards in store shopping, I have added the PayPal/Venmo below. Also, gift cards to local grocery stores (food lion) and Walmart is a huge help :)

As always, YOU all make this possible. Your kindness and generosity has brought so many smiles to children over these past 5 years, and a sigh of relief for many parents and elderly. A million THANK YOUs would never be enough! If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact me Casey Maynor on messenger ♥️ Thank you for your kindness... I'll keep everyone posted on the progress :)

***Please specify Christmas for families in the note ♥️***

My least favorite stage of kittens... transitioning from bottles, to eating gruel from a dish! Ugh, they are so messy. They stand in it, smash their face in it, walk through it, and sling it everywhere when shaking it off their tiny feet. If kittens were with mom, the mother would just lick them clean while they learn to eat on their own.... Of course, I'm not doing that lol.... so it's an abundance of diaper wipes and bath/blow dries during this stage. Thank goodness it only last about a week. Pic of EnnyMeeny after breakfast this morning. Did I mention she just had a bath last night 🙄😂

Anyone looking for the perfect companion kitty? Meet Ari! She's not only beautiful, but perfect in every way. She's affectionate, playful, loves other cats, and also gets along with dogs. She purrs constantly and loves to be held. Great litterbox manners but dose prefer to share your pillow at night... so a bigger pillow maybe needed :)

Ari is a 15 week old calico, fully vetted, and ready for her forever home. She would do best in a home with another playful, social cat/kitten. Ari is available for adoption through Violet's House Cat Rescue, and being fostered by me (Casey). Head over to the rescue page and get your adoption application in for this Gem!!

This cat has been with me for 15 years. She received very little adoption interest as a kitten, mainly because she was very antisocial. After some time had passed, she became a permanent resident in my household. She "loved me" or tolerated me, more than anyone else. I'm really not sure which one it is lol. Sadly, she has now been diagnosed with the dreaded "C" word.... Cancer.

We know her time is limited, so I've given her a bucket list to do all the things she's never done before. This cat had never been outside until recently. We take long strolls in the yard, she enjoys the sunshine on her face. She eats whatever foods sparks her interest, including ice cream. At this point, I want her to enjoy whatever time she has left with me as much as possible. Eat the ice cream and dog food Baby Kitty. Enjoy the fresh air and the feeling of grass beneath your feet. Make the most of whatever time you have left with me. ♥️

Introducing to you another one of our Misfits... Bootsie!
I visited in a rural shelter in Kershaw SC and spotted this boy. That morning, Animal Control had removed several neglected animals from an individuals property. Bootsie was one of those animals. After spending some time with him, it was obvious the place he came from, hadn't been kind to him. Bootsie had an old broken front left leg that had healed over time. The leg had healed crooked leaving him with an odd walk. Most of his teeth on the left side of his mouth had been broken, or completely missing, leaving his mouth very painful for months. His ears had been infected for so long, he has suffered some permanent hearing loss in his ears as a result. His white coat was covered in thousands of fleas, dirt, motor oil, and garbage. His mouth was so painful, it left him unable to groom himself, or eat properly :(

I knew I couldn't leave this sweet boy behind, he deserved better, and I was determined to give it to him. Bootsie has now been with me about 9 months, and he is doing great! We've taken care of his dental issues, treated his ears, and found out his leg didn't need to be removed. He will always walk "oddly", but the leg did heal in a way it doesn't cause him pain or issues. He received a full body shave to get rid of all the dirt and grime from his past, and now has a beautiful long coat if white.

Today, Bootsie is a beautiful chunky beg hog, that is just the sweetest soul ever! The vet estimated Bootsie to be around 3 years old. Judging by the condition he was in, that had to be a very rough 3 years for this sweet boy 💔 He will remain a permanent resident on Misfit Farms and I'll spend my days erasing the bad memories he has of the last 3 years. Replacing those memories of survival with all the love, care, and his favorite can food he deserves ♥️

In the next week, I'll be introducing you all to some of the current Misfits. I'll be explaining their health issues, treatments, routines, and care needed. Today's Misfit is.....

Rufus!! 4 month old English Bulldog with Spina Bifida.
Rufus came to me at just 9 weeks old in hopes physical therapy, and treatment, may improve some of his current issues caused by the Spina Bifida. When Rufus arrived all the way from Miami Florida, he was a little hot mess.

His back legs were very weak, and splayed. He had a nasty URI, was severely constipated, and a ear infections. Because of his condition, Rufus is also bladder and bowel incontinent. He needs both manually expressed several times a day to keep him comfortable and healthy.

Since Rufus arrived his back leg strength has improved significantly. He almost walks normal now!!! He receives acupuncture weekly, range of motion and strengthening therapy every morning, and red light therapy 3 times a week. Surprisingly, his bladder and bowel issues are also improving slightly.

Rufus is a good boy, who is very grateful to receive the help. Thanks to my amazing vet, I'm able to offer the PT and light therapy he needs at home, and she handles the acupuncture and medication needs in office. It's a team effort for sure. My goal is to help Rufus achieve a more "normal" quality of life with his condition, and be adopted by a wonderful family in the future. If that doesn't happen, of course Rufus will always have a home with me ❤️

Hey everyone!!! 👋👋 You will notice a name change on this page. HOAL Rescue is now known as Misfit Farm. No, we haven't been hacked lol.

Angela has stepped away from Rescue due to personal reasons. We hope one day she returns, because she saved ALOT of cats! She's a rescue queen! Mental health, and burnout in rescue is real. It's both physically and emotionally exhausting, especially in the South. She has earned this well deserved mental health break.

I (Casey) will continue to rescue, but on a much smaller scale. Most people know my passion is bottle babies, extreme medical, abuse and neglect. I have many permanent residents here at my home who are either Hospice, or unadoptable because of medical conditions. This is why my house has become known as "Misfit Farms".

The HOAL page has so many wonderful followers, prior adopters, transporters, and animal lovers in general.... we couldn't let it go to waste. It's a very valuable resource for animals and shelters in need. Thank you all for being a part of this journey with us. Stay tuned for the next chapter ❤️

Good morning! Just wanted to update everyone on the newest medical case. Yes, we are a cat rescue, but occasionally a dog needs our help as well. I (Casey) unintentionally became skilled in Spinal issues. (Some of you may remember Godiva, Truffles, and BonBon). Working with paralyzed and mobility challenge animals has allowed me to have knowledge, and much needed therapy devices on hand to offer Physical therapy. Offering medical needs animals daily physical therapy is critical in recovery. Depending on their issue, helping them strengthen muscle and daily range of motion exercises, can allow them to regain some mobility, that may have otherwise been lost forever.

This is exactly why I got the call about this little guy with Spina Bifida.

He saw my wonderful vet yesterday that helps assist and teach me with all the new "misfits" and their conditions. Before the vet, he received 15 minutes of red light therapy to help "wakeup" those weak muscles in the hind legs, bladder, and bowels.

At the vet he received 12 minutes of acupuncture to stimulate the areas he is lacking in. When arriving to me, this little guy was extremely constipated, and has a nasty UTI. That can be common issues with incontinent animals, that hasn't been on a proper expression schedule of the bowels and bladder. I'm giving extra care to stay on top of both to make sure it doesn't happen again in the future.

He also received puppy vaccines, and basic vetting yesterday. Overall, the vet and I do feel he has a good chance of improving from some of the issues Spina Bifida has caused. He's young, and deserves a chance. You never know until you try right? :)

Thank you everyone who has sent items off the Amazon Wishlist. It's a HUGE help with his care. I also have a Spinal Cord injury cat of my own, a kitten with hydrocephalus, and a Cerebellar hypoplasia resident. We use LOTS of supplies in this house. We could still use a few items on the list. Even the smallest item makes a difference. As always, I am forever grateful to the kind hearts of this village who makes helping these animals possible. Thank you for your support and kindness ♥️

Hey HOAL family!!! It's been awhile since a post. We've been working more behind the scenes, and keeping somewhat of a lower profile. I (Casey) have been focusing on TNR of community cats, bottle babies, and of course medical cases. I may have just taken on my most challenging case yet! A 9 week old English Bulldog puppy with Spina Bifida, weak back legs, and bladder/bowel incontinence 😵‍💫 He's young, and my hopes for him is with proper vetting, and physical therapy, his symptoms can improve, and give him a more normal quality of life.

Did I think this through before committing? Absolutely not lol. All I saw was a happy puppy, with a will to live, that deserves a chance. I will need some help to make this happen. I'll be using LOTS of supplies... especially diapers! We've already went through about 10 in 18 hours (puppies go to the bathroom alot lol)

If you would like to send an item from my wishlist it would be greatly appreciated. Vetting alone will be a huge financial challenge. I understand most people "cull" these type of puppies, and never offer them a chance.... my heart just wouldn't allow that to happen. We never know until we try, right?

FOUND KITTENS?

If you find a litter of kittens, please DO NOT move them just because you don't see mom. More than likely mom is taking care of her babies, and it's possible you may never see mom.

Mothers leave their babies for a couple hours each time, as the kittens get older, mom may leave for 3-4 hours at a time. She will go out hunting and doing cat stuff until it's time to feed her young again.

Most cats are very smart when it comes to survival of their young. If they notice you near their nesting spot, or even see you watching them, they may not return back to their babies until they feel the danger (you) is completely gone.

What should you do? Check the kittens. If they are warm and quiet, mom has probably been with them recently. It's okay to briefly touch them, mom will still accept them when she returns.

Place food and water where mom can find it but AWAY from the kittens. This is usually the easiest way to get a glimpse of mom. Even if you don't see mom eating, check the food dish in a couple of hours to see if the food has been eaten. Check the kittens again, if they are still warm, and are quite, leave them be. Watch from a window or somewhere out of sight from mom.

When is it time to intervene? If you are certain mom has been gone for more than 6 hours, the kittens are in need of help at this point. Hungry kittens will not be quiet kittens. When you touch them they will start to cry and wiggle around frantically.

If they have become cold or cool when touched, the kittens need to be brought inside to warm immediately. You can do this by placing a heating pad on low topped with a thick towel or blanket, warming a rice sock, or in a pinch, heat a bottle of water in the microwave until hot and place under the bedding. Always place the heat under the bedding, never directly in contact with the kittens. Make sure not to heat the entire area of the box/crate. Only provide heat to half the area, this way if the kittens become to hot, they can move to a cooler spot.

Never feed a cold kitten, this can kill them. Also NEVER feed ANYTHING other than a formula specifically made for kittens. NEVER feed cows milk, human baby formula, or even plain water to young kittens, this can also be a death sentence for them.

If you've never taken care of small kittens this can be a difficult task. Please reach out to any local rescue group before attempting to feed the kittens. They can put you in contact with someone experienced. A volunteer that can provide you with the information you need to properly care for abandoned kittens.

Once you see kittens eating cat food on their own -typically at 6 weeks old, trapping, vetting, taming of kittens can begin. Spay and neuter of kittens is safe after they weigh at least 2 pounds based on recommendations of your vet clinic.
