There is a first time for everything! Maddie decided to lay beside the wood stove tonight. Maybe she just wanted to see what the cockers are always going on about.

Pretty sure all the springers wish it would stay below freezing forever. We joke that Goose is part Husky and Ginny could be right up there with him. Maddie as well, I went to let her in earlier today and she wasn’t at the door. She was out laying in the yard as happy as a clam.

Welcome to our first litter of 2025! These Lucy x Bobby pups were born last Friday and are all doing great. This litter proved once again cockers are like a box of chocolates. We were expecting all black and golden but Lucy had other plans and we couldn’t love this little group more.

We do have a couple pups available. Lucy is such a pocket rocket in the field and is always on a mission. Her off switch turns off so easily and she becomes the best little companion with a heart of gold. Bobby is your textbook happy go lucky cocker male who is up for anything. He loves putting his nose to work and has become a great first mate on the boat who is just happy to be included.

A little peak behind the curtain. Based on our waitlist we were thinking we wouldn’t have any pups available from this litter. Of course people’s plans change and life happens which is 100% understandable and we never want a puppy to go to a home unprepared for it, but there has been a big shift in the last couple years of waitlists essentially going voided. We try to do the responsible thing and establish a solid waitlist before a litter and then contact people. The amount of ghostings has increased exponentially. The working theory is people have become impatient and are less willing to wait for a litter. Of course there are exceptions and we have worked with wonderful people who are making plans for a puppy months or a year in advance and understand what a commitment a puppy is, and are making decisions based on what will be best for the dog. We’re trying to figure out a better way to make this process smoother for everyone. By talking with other people in the dog world it appears this is a problem across the board, but there is a solution out there.

Long unnecessary rambling over, just thought it may be worth sharing why we do sometimes have puppies available at different ages. If you would like any further information on this group or have any questions please reach out and we will be happy to help you!

Happy boy!! To say the dogs have been enjoying the last few snowy days would be an understatement.

Yesterday was Dad’s birthday. He never wants a fuss made and spent the better part of the afternoon prepping and hanging hams, which he enjoyed as much as anything else he could’ve spent the day doing. Here he is in his happy place with a cocker in each arm. We love you dad!

The boys keep stepping up their meals out west. They decided they were tired eating out every night so have started setting up a mini camp kitchen. It’s working out pretty well.

I don’t think today was much of a day for pictures. It started out raining, which turned to snow but they had a good hunt. This is from when they got out there on Monday. Piper didn’t get to go to ND in October since she was finishing up her motherly duties. I think dad was more bummed about it than she was. She is making up for it this trip though. She has so much grit and determination packed into that little body. It’s a blast to watch her do what she loves.

Dad made the comment yesterday how he didn’t think there were a lot of pheasants this year. Today proved that wrong. June and the other dogs put in the work and had a great day.

After Dad sent me this picture from their first day in Kansas I had to give him a call because at first glance I couldn’t tell if it was Nellie or Goose. Of course Goose is a bit bigger and side by side there are some differences but Nellie is 100% Goose. I’m convinced Ginny didn’t donate any genes to her daughter. Nellie’s mannerisms are even like her dad. Anyways, this is her first trip and she had a good first hunt today. I’m excited to hear how she does the rest of the week.

It’s the best girl’s birthday today! Lilly pad turned 7 today, which is so hard to believe. She’s the best adventure buddy and watching people smile as they pass by her on hikes will forever be my favorite thing. We’re a little over a week out from making a beach run where she can properly celebrate in her favorite place.

Short sleeve hunting on October 23rd in North Dakota, who’d a thunk it? We were excited to take Grace along this trip. She’s still young and has some growing up and learning to do, but the experience she’s gained over the last week will be very beneficial to her in the long run. We’re fortunate to have the extra space to haul some dogs extra dogs to give them that introductory experience.

The diet feeding these prairie birds this time of year. The first pictures is from both a pheasant and sharptail grouse, and then the second picture is from a Hungarian partridge. A lot of grains and grasshoppers sustaining them!
