Haven't shared a Mikey Donuts update in a while:
Mike has been rehabbing and healing his FHO hip surgery for just under 8 weeks now. We shifted into more of a physical therapy mode this week.
Dr Carlson and her vet tech worked with Mikey one on one on targeted rehab to really build up muscle. He did great but was defintely tired and little sore after.
Mikey's rehab also consists of some exercises at home and weekly aqua therapy. When we started therapy we measured his hips and the degree he could extend the repaired hip without pain.
Mikey's "good" hip measured at 38 cm and his repaired hip at 31 cm! A normal hip can extend to 190 degrees, Mikey's was at 140 to start.
Today Mikey's repaired hip measured at 36 cm and he can extend out to 160 degrees!
One reason we are being aggressive with rehab is that his luxating patella has improved greatly with increased muscle growth... we may be able to avoid a 2nd surgery! It was at a grade 5 and now is at a grade 2.
Mikey gets along with everyone here a little differently. He is very respectfly of Gabe and Donna Jean. He looks up to Cubby Bear like an older brother and they love to run, play, and snuggle together.
