BIG NEWS and a HUGE congratulations to Rehm Animal Clinic’s Saraland team for successfully passing thier first AAHA Accreditation, as a new clinic!
What does this mean for you? Accreditation means your pet is receiving care at a hospital that has passed the highest standards in veterinary care. Accredited hospitals are evaluated on approximately 900 quality standards that go above and beyond basic state regulations, ranging from patient care and pain management to staff training and advanced diagnostic services.
AAHA is the only organization that accredits veterinary practices in the United States and Canada. Currently only 12% of veterinary practices in the US and Canada hold the "AAHA-accredited" designation and Rehm Animal Clinics is beyond proud that all four of our locations, are accredited!!
Congratulations RAC Saraland!!! 🎉👏🐾

Rehm Animal Clinic is celebrating National Senior Pet Health Month!
Throughout November, we are honoring senior pets (7 years +) with 10% off our Senior Preventive Care Wellness Screening, when your senior receives their Annual Exam with Vaccines. Our goal is to ensure your loved one is in optimal health throughout their golden years!
This screening includes; Heartworm & Infectious Disease Screening, Blood Chemistry Panel with SDMA (an early kidney disease screening), CBC, Complete Urinalysis and Thyroid Screen.
Our main concerns with older pets are weight, nutrition, pain and organ diseases. As a result, we believe senior pets should have semi-annual veterinary visits to promote early detection and keep your pets happy! Controlling weight and pain as well as early detection of organ disease is the easiest way to ensure a healthier and happier life for your furry friends.
Call today to schedule your senior pets Annual Exam and receive 10% off our Senior Preventive Care Blood Screening, any time in November!
With World Rabies Day just around the corner, and several cases of rabies reported in people this summer (yes, in North America) rabies awareness is forefront in the minds of public health officials, doctors, and veterinarians. While cases of human rabies in North America are rare, the number of cases in developing countries are in the thousands each year – the victims typically children.
Rabies is a fatal viral disease that can be found in wildlife populations including skunks, raccoons, foxes, bats, and coyotes. Rabies is most often transmitted via a bite from a rabid animal but can be transmitted whenever saliva of an infected animal comes in contact with broken skin or mucous membranes. Once the symptoms of rabies appear, there is no treatment.
You can help!
* Vaccinate your cat, dog, or ferret, even if it’s “indoor” only.
* Supervise your pets when they are outside.
* Teach your children to avoid contact with wildlife and never approach or touch ANY unfamiliar animals.
* If you find a sick animal or one that is acting strangely, contact your local animal control agency. Do not touch it or try to capture it.
* If you find a bat in your home and it may have been there when people were sleeping, contact your public health department for further instructions.
* Do not leave pet food or unsecured garbage outside – it will attract wildlife to your yard, increasing the chances of a wildlife encounter.
Call any of our 4 locations to schedule your pets $10 Rabies Vaccination on September 28th.

Happy ! Today is a day to celebrate one of man’s most common and ancient pets. It's not surprising, cats are one of the coolest beings on the planet: they are independent, inquisitive, adventurous, have an amazing physiognomy, and the power to heal by themselves — at least most of the time. You can participate in the festivities of International Cat Day by adopting a new kitty, volunteering at a cat shelter, or even spoiling the ones in your own home! Anywhere there’s a cat, show it some good ol’ purring love.
Buddy and his parents are all smiles! Congratulations to Buddy, on a clean bill of health from Dr. Carney, after undergoing Heartworm Treatment and testing negative today!
After breaking a toenail yestersay, Honey enjoyed a laser therapy session this morning! Her laser treatment will help control her pain and boost her healing so she can get back to chasing squirrels and playing on the river in no time!
DOGust refers to the Universal Birthday for Shelter Dogs on August 1st. This special day was made to honor the pups in our lives who were adopted or rescued.
It can be difficult to track down an adopted dog's birth date since the rescue or shelter may not know their background. Dogust was created to ensure that every dog gets a birthday, even if it's not their real one. On August 1st, spoil your dog with a new toy or treats for their DOGust birthday bash!

Are you prepared if your pet is petrified of the loud noises and flashes of light? Refill your pet's anti-anxiety medications now to ensure you have them when your pet needs them.
More pets go missing on the 4th of July than any other day. In addition to medication, these are some other tips to have a Fear Free Fourth:
✔️Drown out sounds with music or white noise makers such as an oscillating fan or TV 🎶📺
✔️Minimize light flashes from fireworks by keeping all your lights on to decrease contrast 💡
✔️Block windows or move your pet to an interior room with no windows 🙈
✔️Thundershirts may reduce a pet's anxiety 👕
✔️Don’t pull your dog or cat out from hiding 🙈
✔️Don’t take your dog or cat to a fireworks celebration 🎆🚫
✔️Use pheromones (Adaptil for dogs; Feliway for cats) 🐶🐱
✔️Make sure your doors & fences are secured 🚪
✔️Keep party food & beverages out of pet's reach 🍔🌭🍾

Rehm Animal Clinic recommends annual examinations for all healthy younger cats and for senior cats (>7 years of age) twice annually for examination. During the examination, your cat’s veterinarian will monitor your cat’s weight and body condition score as a measure of his/her overall health. The American Association of Feline Practitioners recommends the minimum database in senior cats include a complete blood count, chemistry screen, and urinalysis. Once cats pass their 10th birthday, testing thyroid function and blood pressure are recommended. Together, you and the veterinarians will discuss your cat’s lifestyle and decide on what preventive healthcare measures are required to keep you cat in tip top condition. The preventive measures include: vaccinations, parasite prevention, behavioral interventions and nutritional recommendations. Your cat’s veterinarian may suggest testing for occult infections such as feline immunodeficiency virus, feline leukemia virus and feline heartworms as well. Everyone loves a #dead mosquito. The disease-spreading pesky insects are best after an open hand splat. We can keep them away with sprays and torches, but mother nature kills them off, too. Though they populate with ease in the water, they are not always impervious to cold weather. That’s good news. The bad news is that some of them have a type of natural “anti-freeze” in their system and can stay cozy and warm under inches of snow. So, you may be asking "Is my dog safe from heartworms in the winter?" What temperature kills mosquitoes? And how do some of them survive the winter? Here’s everything you need to know about how some skeeters batten down the hatches in winter and why Fluffy needs prevention, year round. What Temperature Kills Mosquitoes? Mosquitoes are found worldwide, except in Antarctica. Different species adapt to varying ecosystems (forests or urban) and a wide range of climates (tropical, temperate, polar). Research suggests that the Aedes albopictus in the south of the US had more trouble overwintering than the same species in the north. This shows that some species can adapt rapidly to climatic conditions. The mosquitoes we most want to die are the females! This is because male mosquitoes don’t bite or lay eggs. Of the 3500 strains of the insects, most start shutting down at temperatures of 50°f and lower. Being cold-blooded, they can’t regulate their own temperature, so they are affected by the cold. In certain species, the shorter autumn days trigger a state similar to hibernation in other animals. Their metabolism slows as they wait for the return of warmer weather. Some females don’t go down without leaving their offspring, though. They can lay their eggs in water (even if it’s frozen) before perishing. A mass kill of mosquitos would take several days of sub-zero temperatures (which would be the equivalent of a zombie apocalypse here in South Alabama, but HEY, we all know that day is coming eventually, right?) If
