Centennial Jake’s Journey

Meet Centennial Jake, Our Newest CSD Employee!

This 12 week old, adorable Yellow Lab puppy named Centennial Jake, is getting acquainted with his new work space as the District’s first therapy dog in training.

After Jake completes his certification, Jake will start his full-time schedule in the 2019-2020 school year visiting classrooms. Jake’s owner and Superintendent, Dr. David Baugh hopes he will lend a calming presence and be a resource to help students with autism, anxiety and reading disabilities. “I am hopeful that Jake will be of help to kids who are trying to learn to read or who are anxious and stressed. Jake is already a joy to have in our buildings. Having Jake in our administration building has boosted morale and lowered stress and the benefits do not stop there. Having Jake in the workplace is an unexpected mechanism for connection.”

Dr. Baugh was inspired to get a fur-baby and therapy dog for Centennial School District after many years of researching the benefits of therapy dogs in the classrooms. “You don’t need to read a scientific paper to see how a dog can provide so much joy, peace and calm to a person, whether child or an adult,” Baugh said.
