Watch how Chris explains this. If we can learn to use our bodies to create healing in the horse and improve movement, we can fix their sore bodies and even reverse some lameness's. Please come and learn how to ride for the benefit of your horse.

I really think the horse community as a whole is waking up to riding for soundness. Let's grow the revolution!

Learning proper contact is essential to create a soft, willing horse. Self carriage is the goal, but we can't skip steps and expect to get there.

Need help with Saddle Fit?

Before getting this new saddle, Gabe was having a lot of issues going forward. Now he is excelling in his trianing, and we are making leaps and bounds of progress.

I highly recommend Reed at +19492914224 to help you get a saddle that fits you and your horse. English saddles and endurance saddles. I love the one she brought to the fitting and Gabes mom bought for me to ride him in! It's so easy to ride in and gives me a ton of confidence on this young warmblood.

We need at least 1 more person to get her over this way soon to fit a horse I have in training, anyone need help with saddle fit?

Here is another tool to develop those soft elbows I have been trying to get everyone to develop! Practicing skills off the horse is needed, it takes 1000's of hours to master a skill.

Why when the AQHA has such great articles do trainers just rolkur the horses? Surely there are trianers out there teaching correct riding? Surely trainers understand true collection vs false collection?

This is super frustrating, the fact the general population doesn't have trainers that could understand this article and teach the principles of it. This should be mainstream knowledge. Please read the article below.

Self-carriage balances a horse's hindquarters and creates a light forehand and soft pole. Train your horse for proper self-carriage with these exercises.

Tangy decided that she would hurt herself, so now she has cost me $314.40 in vet bills in the last 18 years I have owned her! Except her regular dental.

She hit her nerves in her face and is a little paralyzed in her nose and lips! Vet says it is only temporary! Should be back to normal in 5 days or less. Poor old gal.

Does your horses body feel safe with your body?

What does that even mean?

If our hips, arms, or back tighten, then some horses can get triggered into anxiety. They feel what's going to happen, which enevitably is the pulling on the riens. Some horses will hollow and throw their heads around, some hollow their backs and run away from the rider, and some just shut down and won't go forward. Your horse must trust your body to let go of the anxiety and come back to your seat. Become the trustworthy rider your horse needs. Train your body to let go of tension even when you're a little fearful. It's hard, so go slow with your horse until mutual trust is built. Don't extend the horse out if you can't maintain trust at slower speeds.

Gabe went on a field trip today. We kept it slow and relaxed. He did really well. We had gunfire, loud trucks with Jake brakes, and motorcycles going down the rd. He really looked to me for guidance. Honestly, I didn't think he would be this good. I thought we wouldn't make it past the lunging process. We are trying again tomorrow, I will try and get a longer video!

He makes me look so small! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

We have been talking a lot about riders' bodies this week and how to improve your riding by improving your fitness. We need to be doing exercises that open up our pectoral muscles and strengthen our core. We also need to have our exercise create long muscles, not short, tight ones. Good cross training is pilates, and swimming would work ok also.

Here is a short video to help you get started that Amelia created. This is not just for dressage riders. Ranch and Working equitation riders need to work on their bodies!

If you ride hills, this is great information! Ride like this, and your horse will rotate the pelvis under doing a buttock tuck, maximum rotation is 20 degrees, and they will stay sound with hill work. If not, you're risking your horse becoming lame in the pelvis and eventually in the hind legs.

We will be doing this clinic again soon. Wait for the date. Ride Your Horse Sound clinic.

The clinic is going well. Lots of changes in the horses, a couple of them came with limited motion in their shoulders and hips, and yesterday gained back full range of motion.

Some of the horses went from not wanting to move to moving with very limited encouragement.

We will continue the work today and see if we can organize these horses' bodies and make them feel great before they go home.

Thank you to everyone who came!

Why teach your horse to ground tie?

- It’s more than just teaching your horse not to move, it’s teaching them to be able to be calm, still and focused in body and mind no matter what’s happening around them. This is a life skill.

- It teaches your horse to be more tuned into you than external distractions. Your connection will grow, even without having a hold of the lead rope.

- Their patience and attention span will improve. Fidgety, busy minded horses may especially benefit.

- It translates to ridden work. Waiting for your class at a show? Need to wait for a friend to catch up on a trail ride? A horse that has patience will have an easier time with these things.

- They become better for the farrier, better to saddle, and an all around better citizen.

- It’s handy! Ever get off to fix a trot pole or tighten your girth and end up scrambling to catch your horse? Need to pick their feet but nowhere to tie up? You’ll be shocked by how often this skill makes life a little easier. It’s pretty great for taking pictures, too!

Here’s overachieving Emmitt at the beginning and end of his ground tying lesson- the distance from him increased as well as the amount of time as he got the hang of it.

The screen is up! Really great to have this project done and on to the next!

This screen slows the high winds down and provides more shade, cooling the arena in this heat.

The arena is a good 10 or 15 degrees cooler than the parking lot.

Your farrier is your first line of defense from performance issues and lameness.

While we can not change conformation issues, we can help to reduce the impact those issues may cause.

The counter canter! Polly is working on her counter canter for her straightness. She is supple enough to go all the way around the arena without breaking gait, but needs more straightness in this exercise.

The counter canter is a prerequisite to the flying changes. She can change up but once again needs more straightness in everything she does. She is learning.

We also played with the ball!

Another one of Pheobe! She was very scared of baths. Teach them to ground tie, and suddenly they become willing participants! 🤣

Phoebe came to learn the gate.

Prerequisites to the gate:

Settling
Side pass
Turn on the forehand
Turn on the haunches.

She got it on the last day she was here. She goes home tomorrow! Until she comes back soon. I hope.

When you buy a baby at 4 months and spend time with them, teach them how to be good partners they are so much easier to start under saddle. Way less stress on everyone, especially the horse.

Please read this! If you want to work with me and resolve your horse training issues, or asymmetry issues, and lameness in the body, then we need to work as a team.

The veterinarian, the farrier, the trainer, the saddle fitter, and the owner. That's the team. If we aren't working together or understanding how this journey might look, then results won't happen.

If you can dream it, put in the work, and show up that dream becomes your reality.

It all starts with a dream!

What are you dreaming of?

How will you get there?

Who can help you? Make sure they aren't small minded, if your dreams are big!

I have been helping everyone get to their goals for several years now with their horses. I am now embarking on a journey with Apollo where I will need to focus on my own goals as well as helping other people.

So there will be changes to the lesson program, and my availability going forward. I will be doing more clinics and doing group lessons and take on students for private lessons through an application process.

It's very important to keep my energy up and not keep over working myself in order to keep helping horses and their humans.

Stay tuned for updated changes and I look forward to continuing to help everyone achieve their goals.

In order to achieve your goals, you have to be willing to do the little things that add up to big results. It's the little things that we are not doing that are keeping us from being successful. When we start analyzing and taking action on those seemingly small things and we do them over and over, we get results.

When a student says they can't get a lead at canter, it almost always a small thing that is in their way. I get paid to see those small things and coach you on them. But I am not a miracle worker, if you don't take action and do those things, then results won't happen.

You can't have a mediocre mindset if your goals are high! You have to have a mindset of growth and hard work and fixing the things that need fixing. From getting the hooves trimmed correct to getting a saddle that fits well, to putting in the 100s of hours it takes to make a good horse. You have to do all the things to keep moving forward. This includes getting a bigger mindset, one that isn't ok with being mediocre. And guess what, you have to surround yourself with people who have high expectations!

If you want a sound happy horse and also want to win at the shows, you have to elevate your horsemanship and have a team of farriers, coaches, trainers, veterinarians, and cheerleaders to help you get there that are knowledgeable and believe in you.
