The Hilarious Tale of How Staycation Pet Care Began

Once upon a time, in a land filled with fur and slobber, I discovered my destiny—pet sitting! My earliest memories include a weekend spent with a mama dog and her adorable puppies. My love for animals only grew from that moment on.

Fast forward to today: I’ve shared my life with a parade of furry friends and opened my home to family and friends like a doggy Airbnb. One summer, we had 11 dogs at our house. Yes, I practically turned into the canine version of a reality TV star—“Keeping Up with the Canines.” Spoiler alert: it was chaotic, but also a blast!

While my heart was busy helping animals, I also seem to enjoy juggling a part-time job alongside my normal 8-5 job. Most recently, the spunky Walgreens clerk you spot dancing down the aisles, trying to convince customers that "Yes, you really do need that inflatable unicorn pool float!"

Then came the moment of clarity. My best friend Adam and his amazing wife Maggie went on a trip of a lifetime to Italy. Lucky for me, they asked their favorite pet-sitter (that’s me!) to watch over their little herd of animals. Picture this: me, flinging hay like I’m in an Olympic event, chasing chickens who clearly have a better cardio routine than I do, and spilling water everywhere like a one-woman circus. It hit me—this is what I was meant to do all along!

Now, I’m their go-to pet sitter, and I couldn’t be happier. To give you a taste of my personality and my pet-loving shenanigans, I made a video!

Oh, and a quick shoutout to Mya, our foster dog who stole Adam’s heart faster than I can say “treat.” I’m over the moon to be part of her life.

I’m incredibly honored and grateful for the amazing support from friends and family in launching my pet sitting business. But what truly surprised me was the encouragement from unexpected sources.

For those who don’t know, Dr. Deb is a huge animal lover! When I shared the news about my new venture, she was genuinely excited for me and the community. We both believe there’s a real need for this service in our town.

The women at Dr. Deb’s Express are some of the most welcoming people I’ve ever met—I leave there wanting to give everyone a big hug (but don’t worry, I save those for the pups!).

I am beyond grateful to introduce my first official business client, Miss Sassy! Cathy reached out to me as she is new to town and had a little vacation planned. It’s been an absolute honor to check on Sassy, and she is quite the delight! She’s so affectionate and sweet that I often end up staying longer than planned just to enjoy her company.

Capturing a good photo of her was quite the challenge—probably because she’s just too beautiful for the camera to handle! 🐱✨
