Day 2 of the Ottawa Pet Expo.
It's still crazy busy and I'm meeting lots of great people!
It's too bad I'm the only local Aquatic exhibitor, and this little Gold nugget Maroon Clownfish is feeling lonely! Hopefully for the next show in June we'll have more exhibitors! 🙂
It's time for the Ottawa Pet Expo!
This year Ottawa Reefscapes is excited to be an exhibitor!
It's been a while since Ottawa had an aquatic vendor, so please come out and say hi! I'll be right next to Bobby G Pro Aquarium who came all the way from London to check out our local aquarium community.
My main goal for this expo is to introduce some new people to reefkeeping, and hopefully get them fully addicted like the rest of us!
I'll also be showcasing some beautiful frags for sale courtesy of Marinescape and handing out coupons for a great discount on livestock.
I hope to see you this weekend!

Humans and animals party it up at the EY Centre on June 8 & 9, 2024. Like us here on Facebook!
2 years ago we took over a dismal account.
I think the end result is pretty darn nice!

It's finally here!
The custom sump/ reef support system from Hmahli Marine Life Support System in Australia has arrived!
It took about 7 months due to shipping delays but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.
Stay tuned for the unboxing and detailed video!
Let's go for a walk dear, and we can hold hands! ❤
If you look closely you'll notice that the male is holding babies in his pouch!
We've been having a lot of fun with this most recent project, converting 2 reef aquariums to proper Seahorse habitats!
These are located in the Memory Care Clinics in Ottawa and Gatineau
The biggest challenge we faced was ensuring that the Seahorses had access to enough food throughout the day. We only service these tanks weekly, and the staff are too busy to feed 4 or 5 times a day.
We have installed frozen shrimp popsicle feeding stations in each tank!
The staff simply place a popsicle on top of the feeder tube, inside a frozen insulated cup.
The insulated cup allows the popsicle to melt very slowly throughput the day, and the shrimp sinks to the bottom of the tube and out the holes where the Seahorses can grab it easily.
This, along with ensuring there is a good population of Copepods and other live food in the tank means the Seahorses will never go hungry.
These Seahorses are all captive bred Hippocampus Erectus from an amazing facility named Cultured by Science, and are very strong, healthy specimens.
We are looking forward to adding more Seahorses , pipefish and Dragonettes as the tanks progress and become more mature.
Stay tuned for a proper video !
We are super excited to have the opportunity to work with the University of Ottawa and Hmahli reef life support systems in Australia!
The University is in need of upgrades to the filtration and equipment room, and Eric from Hmahli has come up with an amazing system!
Stay tuned for updates and lots of pics !

And here is a video after a couple of weeks, all the livestock has been reintroduced.
Also added a new Chocolate Tang and hes getting along great with everyone!
I had to tear down and move my tank at home in order to replace the flooring. So I decided to replace the tank with a new one and fabricated a back wall inside. There are compartments in the back for equipment and filtration, and instead of having multiple powerheads in the display area, there is one large pump running a " closed loop" system.
It's not quite finished yet, I still have to replace the cosmetic stand covering.
But here is the progress so far.
Here's a fun little plumbing job I did for a local hobbiest.
Sooo pretty!

So many of us were unable to enjoy a tropical vacation this winter. No diving, no snorkeling, no beautiful fish! Good news. You can bring the ocean home with Ottawa Reefscapes. With our help you can have a beautiful, sustainable friendly, reef aquarium to brighten up your living room. Send a us message today to get started.
Sometimes things dont work out very well with reef tanks.... This is a case of another contractor dropping the ball and the result was a complete crash resulting in a tank full of death. The customers were understandably heartbroken and wanted to give up. They called me to come dismantle the system and take it all away. I checked everything out, discussed all kinds of options, and eventually convinced them to trust me to restart the system. I think it turned out well and the customers have regained their love for the hobby! I'm glad they trusted me!
