Fight 4 Change At Surry County Animal Shelter Surry County's Animal Shelter This page is about our fight to give the animals a chance that are unlucky enough to end up in the shelter in Surry County NC.

In 2011 the shelter took in 4090 animals and only 186 made it out alive. This is just plain wrong!

This is me not spending my money at Mt.Airy Tractor Supply(Tractor Supply will not be getting my $12,000 plus a year) or at Mt.Airy Petsense. I am boycotting both due to them firing my friend Angie Embry. I will not set foot in either of those places until they do right by Angie. No matter how much money it costs me to buy rescue food. Angie was fired last week after a customer attacked her. Angie Embry asked the customer to leave because she was spewing hate and being vulgar to the customers. The lady spit in Angie's face. The lady pulled her to the ground and punched Angie in the face. Her company fired her cause they claimed she did not do enough to de- escalate it.

See my prior post on my time line for contacts to express your outrage(edited to add contacts below). Don't call the Petsense store that is not going to do any good. Most certainly do not call and harass the employees there for not quitting to support Angie. I assure you every employee there supports Angie. They have mouths to feed and need to keep their jobs. Where you will make the most impact is contacting corporate. Please join me in supporting Angie. We can't let them get by with what they did to her. It could be any of us next. We stand up for friends where I am from!

Edited to add the people you should contact to express support for Angie. Also a link to Angie's GoFundMe to help her get a good lawyer.

I have contacted each of these folks in charge to express my disgust and my intentions to make a point. Please follow suit and contact them on Angie's behalf!

Please please share this far and wide!

This is a GoFundMe that a friend set up to help Angie Embry with legal expenses.

Just a recap ....Angie was fired from a 15 yr job with the Mt.Airy NC Petsense store after she was attacked by a customer. The customer was spewing hate and conspiracy theories to the customers. She was vulgar and very obnoxious as well. Angie asked her to leave the store. The attacker spit in Angie's face Angie pushed her away and then the lady pulled her to the ground. She punched Angie in the face.

HR fired Angie because they "claimed" she did not do enough to de- escalate the problem. There is store video surveillance plus witnesses to this event.

I will not do business with Petsense nor will I do anymore events there including our largest event in Dec. We have done Santa pictures there for years for everyone. It always drew a lot of folks to the store. I am going a step further. I will not be doing business with Tractor Supply either. They own Petsense in case you didn't know! I spent on average $250 to $300 per WEEK! Last year the local Tractor Supply. Tractor Supply got over $12,000.00 of my money. I have my receipts and my tax returns to back this point up. It has been around this same amount or more FOR YEARS. I just can not in good conscience support any business who treats their employees this way. Even if it means extra expense for my animal rescue. Tractor Supply was the most cost effective place to shop...but Angie is also my friend. Friends stand up for each other! I encourage you all to do the same. This could have happened to any one of us!!!

I have contacted each of these folks in charge to express my disgust and my intentions to make a point. Please follow suit and contact them on Angie's behalf!

PET OF THE WEEK. MEET COSMO
Cosmo is a boxer mix that we pulled from the Surry County Shelter. They were very full and this boy had already been returned to the shelter once due to a failed trial adoption. He was born 12-19-22. He is super affectionate and very loving. He absolutely wonderful with people. He would be best in a home with no other dogs. If not he would be great with a larger breed female. He is very smart and attentive. He has been started on crate training and potty training.
He will go to his new home neutered, current on vaccinations, deworming, preventives. He will be micro-chipped. He will receive a complete physical and a certificate of health issued by our vet prior to going home. The adopter will get all the health records with adoption.
Contact me for an application.
