Lots of us don’t post the warm up, cuddles and care before and after training our beautiful horses, probably because it wouldn’t get many views.. but we still do it!
I thought I would post it today, after being on the receiving end of nasty comments. Luckily I am very hardened to it now, and I really don’t lose any sleep! Like most other riders, I do everything possible to keep my horses, fit, healthy and happy! 💕
But wouldn’t it be great if, instead of typing your criticism, you had to post a video of yourself doing it better…. Maybe that would stop those keyboard warriors! 💭

I always wash his body, and whilst he is drying off under the solarium I scrub his tail. He then stays warm and starts to dry! 💗

There’s double trouble! 🤩
If you follow my updates on stories you will have seen this week Paloma graduated from nursery and has started at big school! 🎓
So far she has taken really well to accepting having a bit and bridle on and enjoyed the treats and scratches for being so clever!
She is so like Comet it’s unbelievable!
She’s been introduced to the arena and seeing her reflection in the mirrors was extremely exciting! ☄️
Personal space isn’t her strong point, so learning to step backwards when asked and moving away is the starting point!
Next she’ll learn how to move forwards from my voice commands and all about the start groundwork!
I absolutely love this part of training horses. They’re so intelligent, accepting and inquisitive it is just such an amazingly rewarding process and when you really start to develop and special relationship with them!
I’ll do a weekly update on Paloma, and her training! She is only 3 yrs so we will be taking everything at her pace! I’m in no hurry! 🥰

Let’s talk warm up routines…
Do you have one? Do you find it useful?
I never did until recently.. (I say recently, around 6 months ago). I have found it rather useful!
Comet is a guy that enjoys routine.. so he knows exactly what’s expected of him. Which should come in really handy at shows when he needs to focus and prepare.
In winter, when it’s cold, I always use a quarter sheet to keep him warm over his back.
Our little routine is nothing technical, and actually takes things back to basics. A 10 minute walk on both reins in a stretch, picking up a stretchy trot encourages him to stretch over his back, including transitions and diagonals with gentle leg yields into the corner so he moves away from the leg.
We pick up canter, allowing the nose out and poll down. He has to find his own balance and lift his back. Keeping the canter as collected as he can without too much contact!
We then remove the bum rug and feel ready for training. I usually start with the work we find harder first when his body is less tired and more focused…
I’ll continue what we’ve been working on next time!
AD- I’ve tagged the outfit I’m wearing from @honest.riders. I absolutely love the Shetland zip up hoody which is Sherpa fleece lined and SO warm and perfect for training in as it can be unzipped as soon as you warm-up! - my winter must have!!

Comet didn’t have a clue when I bought him he was to be a dressage horse, but he had the right temperament to learn!
Bit by bit, day by day we keep practicing till he has the strength and training to do it! It’s not always quick, it’s not always easy… but it’s so rewarding!
