NO Tap water for your pets until the all clear is given!!

Many of us in the Richmond VA area are working around this water crisis issue going on. Hopefully they will have it fixed and all will be back to normal soon.

Our friends at The Integrative Veterinary Center of Richmond had this to say "Boiled tap water or bottled is what we're recommending. If water isn't safe for us to drink, then it isn't safe for our pets."

Trust me, the last thing you want to deal with on top of all the cold, water issues and more cold is a dog with p**p explosions!

Snow Day!!!!
Thistle and Henry didn't want to come in until I explained to them that I was going to feed them. And even then I think they would have rather stayed out.

They were both happy for the extra snuggles while being toweled off 😂🤣

Just a heads up that many of the area's Veterinary hospitals are closed today.

In case of emergency: Try calling your vets office, they may have an emergency vet on call. Contact an emergency vet practice, but make sure they are open before you take off to them.

Stay safe, you and your dogs may be having a blast but the mix of snow, rain and eventually some serious ice can cause injuries to both of you. Remember your dog needs you to stay safe and able to take care of them!!!

With the impending weather, we have decided to be closed tomorrow, Monday 1/6/25. Our office will be contacting all appointments to reschedule as best we can.

We currently plan to have a delayed opening for Tuesday and open at 9a to allow our team to get in safely. We'll be sure to post updates as needed if this changes.

We are expecting some gross weather the next day and a half in the Richmond area.

Please be careful with your animals in the cold. And remember to stay safe as well!

I keep music on for the dogs all day at my house, usually classic rock, but will often fill the dogs days with classical music.

"The results of this study indicate that exposure to classical music has a sparing effect on anaesthetic and analgesic agents, at least under a light plane of anaesthesia for minor skin surgery. Furthermore, the serum SP concentration increases within 10 min following skin incision."

This makes training dogs outside a little more difficult. So I'm going to remind folks now.

Follow Me Dog Training LLC's official cold weather policy is:
•If temperatures with wind chill/real feel are at or below 35° F, all outdoor lessons are canceled.
• If schools are canceled because of weather reasons, lessons and classes are canceled for safety.
• Rain but especially sleet and snow falling will create the need to cancel.

If your dog is older, younger, and/or minimally coated they will have a much harder time learning in the cold. I encourage everyone to remember that playtime in the cold is different then having to learn and do basic tasks and our dogs here in VA are not used to extreme cold.

When I cancel, trust me, it's not for me, I make the decision for your dog and to make the most out of our scheduled lesson or class. If you have any questions about why I have a cold weather policy or what is going on with a planned lesson or class, please ask me! Please know I would rather be out working with your dog than doing a lot of rescheduling. But the safety of dogs and their humans comes first.

It's still too early to talk exact details or numbers, but big changes are on the way in the weather pattern as we head into the New Year - especially next weekend and beyond. Confidence is high that an extended period with below normal temperatures will persist into mid January. Please pay attention to the updated forecast over the next week to ensure you're prepared for any potentially hazardous weather.
