⁣Andrew Wyeth⁣Master Bedroom⁣1965⁣⁣ “In Master Bedroom, Wyeth presents the family dog, Rattler, asleep, curled up and snuggled into the pillows of a four poster bed. Wyeth's granddaughter, Victoria, said in an interview that the artist had come home tired one evening, wanting to take a nap, only to find Rattler had got there first. She went on to quote Wyeth, You know, dogs are the damnedest thing. They just take over the house. While the title suggests we are in the bedroom of the home's owner, it is also a sly nod to the real master of the house - the dog. ⁣⁣Wyeth perfectly captures the mundane nature of the scene. The simple white bedspread, seemingly worn in a few spots, covers the bed and pillows. The room is unadorned; no pictures hang on the walls, but a small bowl sits on the window sill. The walls, painted rather gesturally, suggest old, discolored plaster. Through the window, we see a side of the house and a few branches of a tree. The light - a low, afternoon light - shines through window onto the end of the bed, not disturbing the sleeping dog. ⁣⁣Evidently, Wyeth's wife did not think much of the picture and suggested he put it on the giveaway pile. Betsy would be surprised to learn that Master Bedroom became one of Wyeth's most popular paintings.”⁣⁣ 🎨

Duke needed a big nap after his lesson!

So important!!!!

So important!!!!

Here is a hard truth.

Breed matters.

Anyone that tells you otherwise is either: a) not a knowledgable resource or b) has a reason they want to keep the truth from you.

Being 💯 honest with yourself about the time you can devote to training, and exercise is a crucial first step in finding a dog that is right for you.

If you are a in poor health, fairly sedentary, or want a dog to be your "emotional support"...there are a LOT of breeds that are not going to work out for you.

Prioritize the dog's quality of life in your decision making process.

Weigh your choice carefully by making characteristics like activity level, sociability and potential for guardian "watchdog" behaviors more important than how "cool" "cute" or "trainable" the dog is.

Nellie had a special visitor at her lesson today. Thistle was out and about earning his keep and starting to learn stuff. Nellie picked up the "place" command quickly! Of course a big play session with tired dogs was the prize for both dogs doing well. Thanks Nellie for letting Thistle come learn with you. How did it feel to be a better trained dog than the dog trainer's dog??

Argos, the faithful dog of Odysseus, remains one of the most iconic symbols of loyalty in ancient literature.
Its story comes from Homer's Odyssey, an eighth-century BC epic poem that chronicles Odyssey's long and perilous journey as he attempts to return home after the Trojan War. After 20 years of absence filled with battles, shipwrecks and constant death threats, Odyssey finally returns to Ithaca, his homeland, but in disguise. No one recognizes him, not even his family or closest friends. But there is a soul that does.

Argos, his old dog, neglected and weak, lying on a pile of dirt, sees him from afar. Her ears stand up, her tail wags softly. Despite being too weak to stand, she finds the strength to recognize the only one she had waited for all those years.

This short but powerful scene appears in Corner 17 of The Odyssey and has remained as one of the most moving moments in all of literature. Argos, forgotten by all but still clinging to hope, finally sees his master once again. And with that small, quiet moment of joy, let go of life, dying in peace.

It is a testament to the eternal love of dogs: they never forget, never stop hoping, and never stop loving. Argos loyalty is timeless, reminding us that even in the earliest stories, the bond between humans and dogs already seemed sacred. For anyone who has ever loved a dog, this scene touches the heart deeply. It's not about greatness or heroism, it's about the quiet power of devotion.

NO Tap water for your pets until the all clear is given!!

Many of us in the Richmond VA area are working around this water crisis issue going on. Hopefully they will have it fixed and all will be back to normal soon.

Our friends at The Integrative Veterinary Center of Richmond had this to say "Boiled tap water or bottled is what we're recommending. If water isn't safe for us to drink, then it isn't safe for our pets."

Trust me, the last thing you want to deal with on top of all the cold, water issues and more cold is a dog with p**p explosions!

Snow Day!!!!
Thistle and Henry didn't want to come in until I explained to them that I was going to feed them. And even then I think they would have rather stayed out.

They were both happy for the extra snuggles while being toweled off 😂🤣

Just a heads up that many of the area's Veterinary hospitals are closed today.

In case of emergency: Try calling your vets office, they may have an emergency vet on call. Contact an emergency vet practice, but make sure they are open before you take off to them.

Stay safe, you and your dogs may be having a blast but the mix of snow, rain and eventually some serious ice can cause injuries to both of you. Remember your dog needs you to stay safe and able to take care of them!!!

❄️ Hey everyone!!!

With the impending weather, we have decided to be closed tomorrow, Monday 1/6/25. Our office will be contacting all appointments to reschedule as best we can.

We currently plan to have a delayed opening for Tuesday and open at 9a to allow our team to get in safely. We'll be sure to post updates as needed if this changes.

If you have any questions please feel free to email the office.
