Happy Birthday U.S. Coast Guard !!

Sinbad the Sailor was a member of the USCGC Campbell crew, though his enlistment was entirely by accident. The night before the Coast Guard ship set sail from New York, one of the crew's members A.A. Roth tried to gift his girlfriend a new puppy, only to realize that her building didn't allow dogs. Unsure of what to do with the dog, Rother decided to bring him along—and luckily the rest of the crew quickly took to the mutt, making him their new mascot.
Sinbad earned notoriety during World War II when the cutter was tasked with escorting convoys across the Atlantic. During this time, Campbell got into a tiff with a German submarine that ended up sinking the American ship—and when essential members of the crew were left aboard for the tow ride home, Sinbad was included as a symbol of good luck. Some of the many medals that Sinbad was awarded include the American Defense Service Medical, the American Campaign Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medical

NEWS: Elvis has left the building

Our Explosives Detection Dog PD Elvis has ‘left the building’ to demonstrate ‘he’s more than just a hound dog’; starting his journey to Paris to support the 2024 Olympics!

PD Elvis, a four-year-old Cocker Spaniel, is trained in detecting explosive devices and equipment.

Today (22 July) he has left South Yorkshire with his handler, a duo who have worked together for three years and will support the operation in Paris until Friday 2 August.

The Olympics will see people from across the world come together to watch the best athletes compete.

PD Elvis will carry out patrols prior to the events starting and during to ensure no concealed items, or those intent on causing harm will enter the event.

His nose, skills and commitment are incredible. We hope he and his handler have a great time while in Paris.

"High humidity can be dangerous too. When the air is humid, panting is less effective at evaporating moisture, so dogs have a harder time cooling off. Justine Lee, DVM, DACVECC, DABT, & Board-certified veterinary specialist recommends this method of factoring in humidity as well as temperature:

If temp (in °F) + humidity level add up to 150 or higher, avoid exercising your dog outdoors. For example: an 80° day with 80% humidity is too hot to walk your dog."

Heat index temperatures and humidity levels are going to be in triple digits most of the day. Please be safe with your dogs and selves out there. All lessons and classes are canceled.
