Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I’m walking 120 miles in April for the Stand Up To Cancer Walkies Challenge. Paw-lease show your support and help fund life-saving research by donating to my page. Most of you know that I already walk regularly with the hounds so I have doubled the miles so...

Please remember folks, dogs don’t die from NOT being walked. Even “late” evening walks are often still too warm.

Some dogs are more prone to heat stroke, including elderly, overweight, short-nosed breeds or dogs with existing cardiac or respiratory problems.

If in doubt - don’t take out!!

Worth a read. If you are wondering - 100% no I do not like or advise the use of retractable leads.

Folks - lots of people using ‘cool vests’ for their dogs at the moment. Whilst this can be a benefit please please please remember to use them correctly.
Always check on a regular basis to ensure they are still cool and haven’t turned into a hot coat - sensible I know but so many people not realising how quickly these coats and can dry and reverse the effect
Stay safe !

As I was saying …

As I was saying …

No dog died from not having a walk.

So many get dragged around the streets 😞

Let’s keep them nice and cool this weekend 😎

Do people never learn ! 37’degrees at 1700 today in Stratford and the amount of people thinking it was ok to walk their dogs!
Please think before you decide to walk your dogs! No dog has ever died of missing a walk but plenty have died after one walk in the heat
People get real ! 😡😡😡

So sad and unnecessary - keep safe :(

This is Nala.

She is a young fit Labrador who was playing football on a overcast 21⁰c day.

At 1.30pm she was rushed to Hook Vets with heat stroke.

Her temperature was at a whopping 41.3⁰c. A dogs normal temperature range is 38 - 39⁰c

Heat stroke can cause irreversible damage or even death. Thankfully her owner noticed and reacted quickly and Nala is doing well 💜 His quick actions saved her life.

Dogs that are more prone to heat stroke are old dogs, overweight dogs, flat faced breeds and puppies. However any dog of any age or breed or fitness can get heat stroke.

Signs of heat stroke are:
⚠️ Faster, heavier breathing
⚠️ Excessive thirst and drooling
⚠️ Increased heart rate and pulse rate
⚠️ Dark coloured gums/ tounge (red/purple)
⚠️ Glassy eyes
⚠️ Staggering or weakness
⚠️ Seizures
⚠️ Unconsciousness

If you think your dog has heat stroke DO NOT throw cold water on them as this can cause the body to go into shock.

On warm days you can help your dogs by:
✅ Restricting exercise
✅ Make sure they have access to cool, shaded areas
✅ Give them access to fresh water
✅ Walking them first thing in the morning or last thing at night when it's cooler
✅ If your pet is over weight start them on a weight loss journey
