Hello, I’m Lauren Hirst and together with my husband Dave, we run Just Greyhounds Home Boarding.
We know from experience with our own dogs that greyhounds can be sensitive souls and can get quite stressed in mixed breed or even greyhound-only boarding kennels. They often prefer the company of other hounds or their own space and they certainly like their home comforts!
Being passionate about the breed, I always wanted to work more closely with greyhounds. When I took early retirement at the end of 2017, I thought the time was right to do what I’ve always wanted to do and by the end of 2018 Just Greyhounds Home Boarding service was born.
About Us
We’ve owned 6 greyhounds over the years and have looked after many more. Currently we have two greyhound girls; Minnie, aged 10 and Chilli, aged 11. Both are used to and enjoy having visitors. Each guest dog has their own room if they prefer to have their own space
Your greyhounds will very much be part of our family and looked after as one of our own. You can leave them with us knowing that they are being looked after by people who understand the specific needs of greyhounds. We are fully insured and licensed by Birmingham City Council.
I have been volunteering with a greyhound charity for over 15 years and have much experience with all sorts of greyhounds including those who have special requirements. Each guest dog will have their care tailored to suit their individual needs and we will try and stay as close to their normal routine as possible. So, if your dog sleeps in your bedroom, he or she can sleep in ours too.
Where We Live
We live a 3-bedroom semi-detached house in a quiet suburb of Birmingham right in the middle of Tolkien Country near Sarehole Mill and only 20 minutes from Birmingham Airport; ideal for those holiday drop-offs. We have a secure garden and there are lots of varied places to walk locally. We often meet up for group walks with other greyhound owners, and have access to a secure, enclosed paddock for off-lead zoomies.
What To Bring
I ask that you bring your dog’s usual food with them. I am experienced in raw feeding so raw diets can be catered for as well as other special medical or dietary needs. We have several beds but you can bring your own dog’s bed if you prefer.
All dogs must have either an up to date vaccination card or a titre test certificate.
Other Services
I can offer occasional day-care if I have availability. I am also happy to do pop-ins to your own home if I’m free.
