The trifecta is back at it!! These 3 dogs have come such a long ways😍😍😍
This boy is hoot in everything he does 😍
A little resource guarding mitigation protocol for Mae this afternoon.
“Chews and snacks?! Oh heck yeah trainer Amy!”
Busy day doing admin work and lessons from home, all while we are stuck here for a maintenance appointment which has an all day window. Extra extra enrichment, treadmill and mini training sessions for all of the resident dogs.
Genetics and drive. It’s not ”all in how you raise them”.
Luke’s natural tendencies are showing up more as he gets more comfortable. He was a dog that had “zero natural instinct” and was headed for the shelter because he didn’t sell. It was a really a matter of him being immature and receiving heavy handed “training” which left him shut down. I’m so glad a friend took him in. This dog has all of the components of a great working dog.
Some of these things are what would drive a person up the wall that wasn’t able to train and manage him.
-arousal around transitions
-desire to control space
-compulsion to pattern behavior
-environmental stability
-willingness to work in the face of adversity
What drive is NOT:
-arousal and out of control behavior
-bad manners
-inability to focus
-lack of motivation
-frenetic behavior not directed toward any given task
-an excuse for bad behavior and lack of training
Aside from taking this ridiculous video he doesn’t get to rehearse this mayhem. Luke is expected to control his arousal (with help) before moving on to the exciting thing (Wren exiting the car). This includes having control over his body, ability to listen to cues and respond to markers appropriately and receive reinforcement. He is also managed (collar grab or leashed).
Shoutout to Wren for modifying her own behavior in an effort to avoid the little pest going ham on her ass. 😂
Gillie is back for an extended stay. Working hard on brushing up her leash skills and manners out in public!
Puppy Dash had such a big outing today! He worked it all 🤩 engagement, leash skills, sit, down, leave it, recall and how to handle all of the distractions of the world.
First lesson in backing up. He wants all of the training and is ALWAYS eager to learn new things 🥰
PSA. Let your dogs be dogs.
Although they have been bred to be social with humans, they are still dogs. This means they’re essentially captive animals. For their health, both mental and physical…let them be dogs first 🐕 🌲 🐾
Give me a Belgian any day! 😍 Saber is here for board and train to get dialed in. We are going to work on all things “good boy” and he’s already off to a great start. More to come…
Guess who’s back?! 💖
Luke is here for a quick tune up. Might even include an oil change on the house.
He’s great, but there are always some nuts and bolts that can be tightened.
Gracie’s beginning to understand that “work hard, play hard” attitude.
Today was one of those amazing days where everything we have been working on clicked for her and became easy, like it’s the norm. Remedial socialization, behavior mod to decrease reactivity, and obedience all felt easy and good for this girl today. I’m so proud of her 🥰
What would your dogs do if someone accidentally left the front door open?
What do they do around that threshold on a good day without an “oops” in it?
My dogs are very protective around my property, which I can’t blame them for. We have a street that everyone walks their dogs down and lots of traffic in our personal space.
Train for real life.
I want my dogs to know how to recall when they are feeling all of the compulsion and arousal on board. I want them to think twice before crossing that threshold, but also how to handle the unexpected, surprising, alarming moments too.
Someone who was seemingly lost pulled into multiple driveways before stopping across the street and unloading random stuff. It was odd. Danny thought it was odd. Practice the real stuff and you won’t have to cross your fingers in these “off” moments.
Muzzle conditioning. Everyone can use a little hand holding once in a while 😌
Walk it Wednesday before work! 🌲
Walk it Wednesday before work! 🌲
Lui is killing it with loose leash walking and handling the hustle and bustle of downtown. 👊🏼 6 months whaaaat?
Wednesday’s with Lui! This small fry killed it today working his recall.
