Laryngeal Collapse Stents

The stent was first tested in vitro and then applied to 21 dogs using a ventral approach. The stent was sutured to the cricoid cartilage. Among these dogs, 17 were brachycephalic breeds. Two-thirds of the dogs showed immediate clinical improvement. Unfortunately, one dog died during surgery. The authors reported significant improvement in a few cases over a two-year follow-up period, indicating that this stent is a suitable treatment option for laryngeal collapse in dogs.

At the ECVS 2024 conference resident presentations, it was reported that literature showed that cats with PSS (portosystemic shunts) experienced post-attenuation neurological signs (PANS) in 15-60% of cases after single shunt attenuation. A study involving 59 cats from 11 institutions showed a short-term survival rate of 75% to 90% at 30 days, with the median survival time being 28 hours after surgery. Among those that had seizures, 50% survived to 30 days. Additionally, the use of propofol was associated with a shorter survival time.

A 4,000-year-old skull reveals the earliest known attempt at treating cancer. Cut marks around several round lesions, likely caused by tumors, indicate that ancient Egyptians attempted surgical treatment. Researchers found these etchings while examining the skull under a microscope. The skull is believed to belong to a man aged 30 to 35 who lived between 2687 and 2345 BC.

The present case studies report malignant neoplastic and traumatic lesions observed on two ancient Egyptian skulls held at the Duckworth Collection (Cambridge University). The analysis aims to characterise the lesions and provide a diagnosis using a methodology based on micro-CT scanning and microsc...
