Pawsitive Shelter Photography "Saving good pets through better photography." Pawsitive Shelter Photography is a volunteer organization operating in the Central Florida area.

Our mission is to use photography to present shelter animals to the public as appropriate and deserving pets and companions. By maximizing adoptions and assisting shelters and rescues to better market available pets, we hope to reduce abuse and neglect of domestic animals and lower rates of euthanasia. If you would like to help out with this project, please email Joan at [email protected] for more information.

Lowered adoption fees 🐾

Lowered adoption fees 🐾

**ADOPTION SALE**
For the next three days, we will be reducing our adoption fees for all animals to $10. As of this moment, we have 189 dogs and 76 cats under our care. While dozens of animals are adopted daily, more and more come in every day, from owner surrenders to strays. And the number of animals coming in always seems to outpace the number of animals that are adopted.

We know these are tough times, and we want to encourage owners to spend their money where they should: on pet care, pet toys, and pet food. We are hoping that by reducing our adoption fees, it will remove any obstacles or doubts about adoption.

Starting today, and spanning through the entire weekend, all adopters will pay $10 for their new pet. In addition, all adopters will receive a free gift from us at the time of adoption. Just a little something to get a new pet owner ahead. The customary adoption procedures and requirements will all still be in place. All adopted animals will be spayed and neutered, microchipped, and will have received initial vaccinations, including rabies. And every adopted animal will receive a certificate for VCA animal hospitals to cover the cost of an initial vet examination at one of their locations.

There are over 200 animals here, waiting, hoping to be seen. Hoping to be noticed. Hoping to find love again. Let's make this weekend their weekend.

Let's get them all seen.
Let's get them all home.

Sleepover with a friend during the hurricane !!

Planning to spend the next few days locked at home with cases of water and other non-perishables? Don't brave the storm alone, have a Storm Trooper by your side!

This is the perfect chance to try our "sleepover" program and temporarily take home an adoptable shelter pet. This program is open to pets that have been spayed/neutered, microchipped and vaccinated so are designated as "Ready to Go" on our website. Find out more about the sleepover program here: https://bit.ly/3DWsTrE

View the available pets here: https://bit.ly/3BEd2uY

Sissy (A500341), pictured here, is hoping she can weather the storm in a home rather than the shelter. She's sweet and plays excellently with other dogs.

Please email [email protected] with any inquiries or visit the shelter in person.

Ocas has puppies !

The cure for the Monday blues? Adorable puppies!

Last week a gentleman brought us a box of four puppies, having found them while mowing a lawn. The pups were maybe a day old at that point and considered critical, as little ones that young are fragile and require a high level of care. Thankfully Southon Rescue swooped in to save the pups and the day.

**SPECIAL NEEDS PET ALERT** Senior boy Clyde (A497176) was once a beloved pet, but sadly his owner passed away. For a period of time, the family would feed him in the backyard before ultimately deciding they could no longer keep him. At eight years old, Clyde struggled in the stressful shelter environment.

To make matters worse, it is believed that Clyde is nearly blind.

He was incredibly scared while in the shelter and had difficulty walking on a leash, likely a combination of his vision impairment and lack of training. Around this time we sent a plea out to our volunteers to see if any could take in a shelter dog for a few weeks to provide them a break and help ease overcrowding.

Volunteer Jennifer stepped up for the challenge and selected Clyde for her foster pet.

Clyde has been with Jennifer for approximately two weeks now. Jennifer has been diligent about providing updates so we can monitor Clyde's progress and we're thrilled to see him thrive while in her care.

Jennifer writes: "He really is very gentle, sweet and wants to love on you very frequently. As he is partially blind, clumsy, large and rather oblivious to his surroundings, he is probably not a good dog for a small child because he would likely knock them down without even realizing it. Probably children 8 and over would be ok with him. He also walks very well on the leash without pulling. We do keep him away from other dogs, but as we pass other people walking their dogs, he stops and stares, but no show of aggression or even pulling on the leash.

Overall a very good dog that deserves a good home."

This senior boy deserves another loving home, one where he can truly relax and enjoy his golden years. If you're in a position to provide that, please email [email protected].

🆘🆘 EUTHANASIA LIST 🆘🆘

EXTREMELY URGENT: There are 5 dogs on this week’s euthanasia list at OCAS IN ORLANDO, FL. They all only have until 5 pm Tuesday (08/16) to be adopted or rescued

Please, please help these 5 dogs! They are on this week’s Euthanasia list at Orange County Animal Services in Orlando, FL. They only have until 5 pm Tuesday (08/16) to be adopted or rescued!

❤️ Cruelty confiscation dog on LCA list. Precious HOMIE was first confiscated in March, returned to his owner, and confiscated again in July. Homie was then abandoned by his owner when he could no longer be used for breeding/money following neutering on second impound! He needs to be the only pup initially. Given love and training, he will flower. Homie is 2 years old and a bony 45 lbs. He is HW negative. Please give Homie the loving home he deserves. Help him to learn to trust again.

❤️ SNICKERS (A495799)
Poor Snickers was found as a frightened stray under a truck. He’s still not sure who is his friend (especially hard in the shelter environment), but Snickers could learn with training and consistency from a patient, compassionate friend. He is 6 years old, about 50 lbs., and HW negative. Right now he should be the only pet in the home and probably one with no small children. Go out for a meet and greet with Snickers. Enjoy a play time together. Convince him there are people who will be there for him always.

❤️ DAISY (A496018)
Playful, energetic Daisy is a cute 2-year old who really enjoys company and outdoor fun. She just needs an owner who loves her enough to teach and train her. She’s such a bright bundle of energy, with patience and love she’ll show what a star student she can be. Darling Daisy weighs about 48 lbs. and is HW negative. She is currently kennelled with another dog, but needs training for resource guarding issues.

❤️ GUAPO (A497678)
Adorable Guapo was given up by his owner because he just couldn’t care for him anymore. This precious 2-year old is a thin 46 lbs. and HW positive (treatment is sponsored). Guapo is frightened like so many pups at OCAS, and he’s not sure which of the other dogs there are friends - if any. But he really likes treats and people who are understanding and kind to him. He would flourish with a wonderful family. Guapo would be the most successful as the only pet in the home. Take the time to visit Guapo and you’ll see that he could be just the right pet for you.

❤️ ARCHIE (A496817)
Handsome Archie is a beautiful 2-year old who came in as a stray. It’s been difficult and a bit scary to adjust to the noisy shelter life, especially with all those strange dogs and people. With Archie’s intelligence, we know he can learn to trust through training and love. He’s really a special dog for a special family. Right now Archie would do best as the only pet in a home with no small children. But Archie is non reactive when passing other dogs at the shelter. He’s 50 lbs. and a pretty white and grey color.

**UPDATE: Senora's applicant declined, through no fault of the pet. She is in need once again.**

‼️ This hippo is a MUST SEE, video in comments ‼️

Senora (A495608) tips the scale at 100 pounds. Estimated to be around three years old, this beauty has short legs and a wide body, making her swagger when moving around the shelter quite the sight to behold. She's every bit as sweet as she is large.

Unfortunately Senora has some medical issues that have led to growing concerns for our staff veterinarians. The least of which is the ear infection she's been battling and has been receiving treatment for since her arrival on June 21. The larger concern is for her gait, Senora doesn't move easily and walks with a small limp.

X-rays revealed stifle disease, also known as cranial cruciate ligament disease. This is a debilitating condition. Some small dogs can recover without surgery, but for large dogs like Senora, surgery will be essential. Additionally, our veterinarians cannot rule out possible bone cancer.

Few are in a position to take in a dog with major medical needs, but we're hoping we can find that right person, for Senora's benefit. We are making her as comfortable as possible during her time at the shelter, but she has needs beyond what can be addressed here and truly needs to be in a home environment to thrive in recovery.

UPDATE: Senora has received an adoption application and will be leaving the shelter soon!

If you can’t adopt, share, volunteer, there’s an animal crisis right now 😔

26 dogs were surrendered yesterday. 26!!!! In one day. That is absolutely heartbreaking. Please share for these babies who are being let down by humans 💔💞

Yesterday alone we received 26 (‼️) dogs, putting our total in shelter at 144. As our kennel population begins to climb we want to bring attention to special shelter guests that may be overshadowed, like Taco (A478285).

This senior gentleman is vision impaired, making his stay at the shelter all the more stressful. Taco has occasionally walked into objects here and can frequently be seen with teeth chattering, a sign of nervous behavior. He is overwhelmed here and we're asking for help as keeping him here in this environment indefinitely will only worsen his anxiety.

Taco is one of the few dogs that we can say, with certainty, is housebroken. He would benefit from a quiet, stable home with an experienced dog owner, ideally one who has previously cared for vision impaired dogs. Due to the challenges around his sight, we recommend a household without other pets and without young children.

We understand this is a big ask, but we need our community to come together to help the needier pets, like Taco. Please find out more about Taco here: https://bit.ly/3JAgRUN.

March adoption discounts! 🐾☘️

We at OCAS thought about placing T-shirts on all our amazing animals that said: Kiss me, I'm adoptable! But we didn't really want people trying to kiss our dogs and cats through the kennels. So for this month's adoption promotion, we decided to give all our adopters a chance to test their luck and find their lucky charm.

During the month of March, all adoption fees will be the standard fee of $55 for dogs and $40 for cats. Adopters will have the chance to test their luck by picking a leaf from a four leaf clover at every adoption desk. Each adopter will have the chance to receive additional discounts of $5, 10, 15, and $20 for their lucky charm animal.

As always, the adoption fee will include:

Spay/neuter surgery, if pet is deemed medically eligible per staff veterinarian.

Initial vaccinations, including rabies vaccine and tag.

Microchip identification.

First deworming.

Heartworm test for dogs six months and older.

Feline leukemia virus and feline immunodeficiency virus test for cats eight weeks and older.

So come join us this month, take a chance, and maybe find your pot of gold in one of our many adoptable pets. WWW.OCNETPETS.COM
