I got so many comments and DM’s last week after sharing a little bit about about why Ollie is no longer a Service Dog, and is an ESA instead. From people struggling with a similar situation. From people who see a friend or family member struggling with this. And from people who wished that the real struggles of having a service dog were more in the open. Because of this I decided to put together a more extensive video about WHY exactly a service dog wasn’t right for me. In this video I share: 1. A bit of my health history and what led me to purse having a service dog as a treatment option. 2. The stress I felt at being in public. 3. Task wok in public. 4. Why I felt an SD wasn’t the right fit for me, but an ESA ultimately was. 5. The process I went through in accepting my decision to not have Ollie be a service dog (hint:it was hard). I am still a HUGE advocate of service dogs and absolutely understand the value they have for many. It just wasn’t a good fit for me, especially as I started receiving diagnoses and treatment options I didn’t previously have available to me. I hope our more complete story is helpful to anyone who is going through this, or just to get the conversation moving in a different direction! Also, I want to thank you for being so encouraging last week to me as I opened up about our journey! It was definitely a difficult decision at the time, and I felt a bit nervous to share about it so I really appreciated the kind words! I’d also love to hear if any of the service dog handlers (or ex-service dog handlers like me) relate to my story? Any parts/experiences in particular? 👇

My products are inspired by working dogs, and designed for any dog...even the ultimate couch potato! I also offer education and resources for navigating service dog and pet ownership, and life with disabilities.
