In 2014, we expanded our mission to encompass the inclusion of hound dogs, leading to new adventures.
- 2014 we discovered 14 dogs kept in despicable conditions. The owner of the dogs abandoned them in the summer while there was a drought and immense heat wave. The dogs had no access to water or food, little protection from the elements and were starved for attention. For 3 Months every day my husband I brought them food, filled their water buckets, socialized with them, cleaned the floors, and put tarps up to help give them relief from the sun.
- After the 1st month of not hearing from or seeing the dogs' owner we contacted the County Animal Control (AC) and they said they couldn't do anything because the dogs looked okay. WELL, That Was Because We Were Taking Care Of Them!! AC told us to stop feeding them and then they could be considered abandoned in a few weeks. 😠 So of course we would not do that, and we continued to care for the dogs for 2 more months.
- During that time we started raising funds to build a dog kennel at our Sanctuary. Thanks to our wonderful friends Hugo, Mary and Strother for their donations we built a kennel so that we could move the dogs to our Sanctuary.
- In Sept. 2014 we finished the kennel and moved them to our Sanctuary. It was probably the 1st time the dogs were able to socially interact with each other and they immediately loved it.
- Over the remainder of the year we continued to add on to the kennel giving them lots of room and protection. All the dogs blossomed! They were also allowed out of the kennel once a day to run free on our 30 acres. After several hours of running free, they always returned to their kennel. They knew it was their new home.
