WE ARE A SMALL FOSTER-BASED CAT AND KITTEN RESCUE IN UPPER MONTCLAIR NJ

How much is the adoption fee? (THAT WOULD INCLUDE THEIR 8 WEEK VISIT DEWORMING AND FIRST DISTEMPER VACCINE). WE PREFER TO PLACE OUR EVEN NUMBER LITTERS IN PAIRS. ADOPTERS LOOKING TO ADOPT LITTER-MATES WILL HAVE PREFERENCE. IF WE HAVE AN ODD NUMBER IN A LITTER WE WILL CONSIDER ADOPTING A SINGLE KITTEN TO A HOME THAT ALREADY HA

At what age do you adopt the kitten? WE ADOPT OUT AS EARLY AS 8 WEEKS, ONCE THE KITTEN IS OLD ENOUGH FOR ITS FIRST FVRCP VACCINATION. WE DO NOT ADOPT OUR 8 WEEK OLD KITTENS TO HOMES WITH CHILDREN UNDER 8 YEARS OLD. KITTENS WILL ONLY BE ABOUT 2 LBS. HOWEVER WE WILL CONSIDER ADOPTING OUR OLDER KITTENS TO HOMES WITH YOUNGER CHILDREN

Is the kitten spayed or neutered before adoption? THE KITTEN IS NOT NEUTERED OR SPAYED BEFORE ADOPTION BECAUSE WE DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN PEDIATRIC SPAY AND NEUTER. THE ADOPTER WILL HAVE THE KITTEN SPAYED OR NEUTERED AT 5-6 MONTHS OF AGE BY THEIR VET AND SHOW PROOF OF SURGERY TO THE RESCUE. IF THEY CHOOSE TO USE OUR VET THE COST IS:
SPAY $661.09
NEUTER $491.90
*THESE PRICES INCLUDE PRE-ANESTHETIC BLOODWORK AND TAKE HOME PAIN MEDS. SAMMYVALE HAS A PARTNERSHIP WITH A LOW COST SPAY/NEUTER CLINIC WHICH THEY CAN DISCUSS WITH YOU AT TIME OF MEET AND GREET. THIS COST IS USUALLY $200-$300

THE ADOPTER WILL SIGN A CONTRACT BINDING THEM TO THIS SURGICAL TIMELINE AND DISCLOSURE OF COMPLETED SURGERY. What is your process? POTENTIAL ADOPTER WILL COMPLETE AN APPLICATION. ONCE THE APPLICATION IS APPROVED, THEY WILL BE ALLOWED TO VISIT THE FOSTER HOME FOR A MEET AND GREET WITH THE KITTENS AND MYSELF. WE WILL LET THE APPLICANTS KNOW IF THEY ARE A MATCH WITHIN 3 DAYS (GIVING US SUFFICIENT TIME TO MEET ALL APPLICANTS)

Returned after TWO YEARS. Gus and Dorothy. Poor babies terrified. Hiding inside my theater chairs. I hope they settle in soon. We will put the updates online but in the meantime if you can share to find them a home together that’s wonderful. They’re a little over 2 years old now. And raised as kittens in Sammyvale rescue so should be awesome and sweet again soon !
I included a pic of them when they were babies and just adopted below.

THANKS EVERYONE for the birthday wishes. I read them ALL ! And for the donations to animal rescue on my behalf. My mom told me that now that I am a senior citizen at 55 yrs of age I qualify for certain discounts at restaurants etc. I’m excited !!!! lol. Pls share if you know of any places/items/experiences that this new age affords me.

And the Burmese is officially on her way to a wonderful loving home. Thanks to my friend and adopter Alaina Danielle for connecting me to her sister in P.A. Thanks Jenna Warner for adopting Bailey and giving her the happy ending she so deserves. I have a wonderful community network of animal lovers and the most compassionate adopters and friends. Very thankful !!!! Thanks again to Susan Janett at Rosemarie's Rescue Ranch for taking in one dog and THREE CATS !!! And Rhoda Belej for ageeeing to foster the cats. Rosemarie Cafiero would be so proud of all of us !!! My mentor !!

The wonderful woman who adopted his brother Magic Johnson wants to get Pat too. He goes home to reunite with his brother on Friday after his vaccines. And even better the family lives in Montclair !!!

Sammyvale Mission/History

I formed Sammyvale Animal Sanctuary in 2000 after my beloved Sammy (gray and white tuxedo) passed away from kidney disease. After years of rescue while raising my family I have come back to my love of cat/kitten rescue in a “full throttle” capacity. My kids are grown and require less of my time, so I have dedicated myself to helping the cats and kittens in my local area. I will take them into my home, vet them with my local veterinary clinic, Montclair Animal Hospital, rehabilitate them, socialize them, love them and find them wonderful families of their own.
