Anyone looking for an acreage companion?

Hi, I'm Benny! I'm a young LGD type dog, probably Great Pyrenees mix. I am a big boy and will likely be over 100 lbs. when fully grown. I am quite timid, but I am friendly. I can be a bit nervous meeting new dogs and will bark at them. I need to go to a home with a CONFIDENT dog. This will help me come out of my shell and be the best boy! I would likely do okay with kids as long as they are comfortable with my size. I have not been introduced to cats. Because of my breed, I would do best out of the city in an acreage type setting. I would love to have a family of my own and thrive as part of the family. I have been sponsored by Petcuran and they will provide the adopter with free food for me for a year! How great is that?

Big milestone today! R. Nugent-Hopkins finally hit 1 kg at 13 weeks old. 😳 In comparison, our litter of 8 week old kittens weigh between 0.7 kg and 1 kg. We've been working super hard at getting this guy healthy and it is finally paying off! 😻

📣 DO I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION? 📣
✨ FOR 601 DAYS I HAVE BEEN SITTING IN A KENNEL ✨
Hi! My name is Summer. I am a SCARS favourite. I love to snuggle and well as play! I am very affectionate and love getting attention from my people. I am very toy and food motivated. I have done well with playful male dogs in my foster home. I would not do well with small children or with cats.
✨ Summer needs someone to break her out of here. Interested in fostering or adopting? Visit scarscare.ca ✨

When we say animal rescue is in crisis, we aren't exaggerating.
📸 Adoptable Barkley - waiting for his forever home for 555 days.

Hello! I am Barkley! Despite the word Bark in my name, I don't bark very often. My foster family calls me Bart. Walks are my favourite! I get pretty excited when I see we are going for one. I get the "tippy tappies" when my people come to see me or when it is food time. I also like to chill with my people and play with my toys, I really like my toys - and thus far have only kept my chewing to my toys. I am house trained as well. I can be a little dog selective, and can come on pretty strong during introductions. So I will need proper introductions with new dogs, however I have made both male and female dog friends in my foster home. I love some good snuggles and scratches too!

4 years ago today, we opened the kennel. Time has gone by so quickly, yet I look and see how far we have come. Here are some pictures of the facility currently. While it is far from done, it is definitely nice to have something that we can use for indoor space.

There are also some photos of our kennel build from fall 2019 until now. Wow. This property has changed so much in the 6 years we have been here. 😻

As most of our followers and supporters know, Steven & I are heavily involved in animal rescue. We have been involved with rescue for over a decade and it is something that we have incorporated into our lifestyle. While we share a lot of posts from local rescues, specifically Second Chance Animal Rescue Society - Alberta, we try not to over do it on our business page. Steven and I are desensitized to a lot of things we see. I believe this is a learned behaviour that we have had to adapt over the years. What we can’t get over is the number of animals needing placement right now. This is what has been keeping us up at night.

Animal rescue in general is at a critical state. All rescues are at capacity and there is literally no place to put these dogs & cats. We are at the point where we personally have 2 litters of kittens and 4 adult cats living with us. We have 4 foster dogs living in the kennel – 3 of the 4 have been in care for over a year (going on 2) with absolutely no interest. They have never lived in a house. This is literally all they know – living in a kennel environment. I’m coming here to ask – what can we do to help these animals? What would it take for someone to start fostering? What would it take for someone to adopt? Do you have any ideas for fundraising? Would your business be interested in sponsoring an animal or an event?

𝗥𝗲𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝘀𝗼 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱!

Nothing gets us more excited than being able to reunite lost animals with their humans and this reunification story will hit you right in the feels.

This beautiful creature is Isabelle. In the middle of moving into a new home, she managed to sneak out the front door. Her family searched for her utilizing facebook and many other tools and had given up hope of her return. Fast forward 10 years later - Isabelle found her way into the facility where our amazing team of detectives found a microchip that linked her to her humans and she was quickly reunited.

We wish Isabelle and her family a beautiful life filled with belly rubs, catnip and toys.

Some great lessons from this beautiful reunion.

*Please please please make sure that your pet’s identification is up to date so that if
they get lost we can help them find you. edmonton.ca/licenseyourpet

*Summer is a popular time for moving. If you have a move planned and a pet in your
life, please make sure that they are safely contained, as they are quicker than we
sometimes think and the desire to wander high.

*Please remember that just because a cat is found outdoors, doesn’t mean it’s lost.
Cats are 10 times more likely to return home if left where they’re found.
If you are concerned about the cat’s welfare:
- Post a photo on Facebook pet pages, Kijiji, craigslist, etc.
- Talk your neighbours
- Place a paper collar on the cat with your number so the owner
can inform you if it’s an outdoor cat
- Take it to a vet to have it scanned for a microchip
Please do not keep the cat in your home as this greatly reduces the chance of it ever returning home.

Why Mutt Heads?

Mutt Heads Pet Services started because of our love for animals. We have two dogs and a cat of our own and foster dogs for Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS). We are used to different sizes, ages, breeds, energy levels and temperaments. When your dogs stay with us, we have a fenced acreage with kennel space. Your dogs will be able to play all day in a safe and secure area. We want our clients to have piece of mind when we look after their animal and know that we treat our animals like family. Sometimes pet owners can't be there for their pets, and we want to take the stress out of these situations by being a second family to them. Cassie worked as a Human Resources professional for many years, and recently decided that she needed a career change - doing something that she absolutely loved doing! Steven currently works in Emergency Services and works shift work. With his schedule, this will allow him to help people in need as well as spend time with animals. We are well aware of the burden of extended hours away from the home, so we are flexible with our hours to accommodate the shift work and office professional type of lifestyles. Our organization is bonded and insured through ProFur. Cassie has current Pet First Aid.
