》She's Barely French Takes 2nd Overall!《
Last year, we sold She's Barely French, aka Black Friday, to miss Jacee for her next highschool all-around horse. Black Friday was very lightly started on the pattern; Jacee has spent the time finishing and seasoning her on the barrels, and also has started roping on her.
Jacee's sister, Josie, jump rode Friday at a barrel race, placing 2nd out of 73 entries, with only 3 horses being in the 1D.
We are so proud of Jacee and the work she's put into Friday to get her to this point, and are excited to see how far they go together!

Definitely a neat view and a great tool to show where the struggles were, what worked and what we can improve. I missed my intended line in a couple places and the video doesn't lie, a few shots were way out of range but we hope to improve!
Also the view of the dust trail is clearly the high point.

The dust trail is by far the high point!
Wrapping up day three with Nate and Brian. I swear these two are brothers Possibly identical twins.
Kicking off a 3-day event at Sorta Heaven in Lawton Iowa. I'm the cheap labor for a beginners Ranch sorting clinic tonight, tomorrow is an open Ranch Sorting where Cinderella gets to start her 2024 season after a couple month break. Sunday we have a Quiet Confidence clinic where Dimes will be the demo horse. Sunday there will also be professional saddle fitting available as well as equine chiropractic and massage. Check below on the page for more details.
We started off the weekend with Brian Berkanpas (the producer) and Nathaniel Reams doing a quick interview, be sure to check it out and look for updates throughout the weekend.
》Virtual Coaching Sessions《
We have had multiple requests for a type of virtual assistance, and the video below is our first prototype.
This winter, we will be offering virtual coaching, which will include us reviewing your videos (competition runs, regular workouts, etc.), and we will respond with a video tailored to you and your horse - just as we would show you if you were receiving an "in-person" lesson. We are offering virtual coaching sessions at an introductory rate of $45.
Thank you everyone for your interest!
In keeping with the "We had someone ask" pattern, the question was brought up on how to work with a "spicy" horse. We wanted to share a quick video where we got to work both Cinderella and MoonWolf.
MoonWolf had himself on what we call "high alert" - just watchy and overreactive. He was still working well and still listening, but his mind was doing mental hot laps at 90mph.
There are certainly some fine tuning things you can do to the riderless horse, from backing them to stepping around or yielding hips. We weren't too worried about those in MoonWolf's case, we just wanted to throw stimulus at him in a way that simulated being on his back. It also allows us to give Cinderella a job where she has some expectations of being accountabe while my attention was, for the most part, elsewhere.
Best advice [if you choose to incorporate this into your training]:
1. Don't dally off or try to drag them around. This isn't about that.
2. Use a solid saddle horse, preferably one that has alpha status, but doesn't overdo the bully tactics. Cinderella has done this quite a bit and learned when to lean on one, when to get out of the way, when to knock their hips around and when to pin her ears to add to the respect factor on one who thinks they are the toughest kid on the playground. Know both horses before you try this.
3. Be safe. Be mindful of ropes and reins. Don't be afraid to let go of the rope and start over.
4. Don't get kicked. There are places you can be that are much less likely to get you kicked.
5. Especially with young horses, sometimes they'll try and climb in the saddle with you. Probably only room for one of you up there, keep your hand up as a barrier.
6. Play around. Just like anything else, it's a tool. See how little you can do to get the result.
7. Wear chaps. Grow a mustache. Say deep meaningful things about bonding or a horse's mentality, while staring thoughtfully into the distance. I'm not saying those things will help, but at l
We believe that our horses should be well-rounded individuals. Moonwolf's focus has been training for barrels, so we figured we would throw something new at him this week.
Here is Shari Kennedy 's first day shooting off of him! For as watchy as he is, the loud gunfire sure didn't bother him.
Added bonus: the other horses in training with Will were able to stand tied at the far end of the arena to listen to the gunfire as well.

We've always thought Freckles Ta Fame was a pretty cool horse and when we had a client who wanted to send one of his daughters, we were sure excited for the opportunity. Rose is a 2019 mare whose owner wanted some more saddle time on her. She has been in good hands prior to us, and we appreciate other's talent making our job easier.
Rose is a big, racey mare, but she is showing us she can still be handy with those feet.
