This is a pic of an old man puppy recovering from a night of Hawaiian fireworks. He’s exhausted. Either that or he’s hung over really bad. I offered him a piece of chicken. And he didn’t even fully open his eyes. lol.
The fireworks turn him into jello. Doesn’t run scared. But can’t really stand up either. Just quivers. Poor old soul. He tried to sleep under my covers but was too hot.

Lost one of my heart dogs today
Mis Scarlett was one of my cavaliers, from the time I was a breeder. She started having seizures when she was only 2. She became a dog that will forever live in my heart. She was the queen of the house.
When moved to hawaii 4.5 years ago, the vet told me she would not survive the move. At 13 she was already extremely elderly for a cavalier. Especially one that was afflicted with seizures and a heart issue her whole life. Several times the vet told me she had just weeks/ months to live. Each time she laughed and went on.
However when i moved, they told me again. Weeks. I should let her go. I couldn’t. I knew she was not nearly ready. Soooooo my dear friends Freddy Johnson and Randy Williams took her. Promised to love in her for that small time she had left. ( she had dementia so wasn’t sure I was gone). She took to Randy like he was her long lost love. Needless to say. She flipped the vets off and lived 4.5 more year. She passed today at 18.5 years of age. I heard of in cavaliers.
I will miss her so much. But honor Freddy and Randy for loving her as they did.

Bronx enjoying his morning bath. Most dogs hate the dryer, but you can see. Mr Bronx loves loves loves it. He stretches his neck up and even groans in pleasure. Then I get face licks. Lol. If I’m not careful not to laugh, I get teeth brushes ( gross). Lol.
Love me some Bronx the bully. Love his name too. It fits so well.

Another sad day. My very first “difficult” dog passed last night in his mommas arms.
Mr Bean had been thrown out if every groomers in the area for aggressiveness. He was a tiny toy poodle. And I mean tiny.
He melted my heart. I was a brand new groomer but I knew I had to try. We groomed. Played. Relaxed on the table. Cuddled. Until one day he let me groom him completely with out a bite. I groomed him for many years til I moved to hawaii. But his mom talked to me all the time.
Bean is the dog that taught me I was here to help the difficult old guys. The scared guys. The sick pups.
Mr bean, every grumpy guy I groom is in your memory. Run free and above all else, be the big dog you were in your soul.
Loved you to the moon and back.

One on the most special dogs I have ever had the honor of grooming. I love them all , but somehow Toa really touch my heart. Hugs to his wonderful family.

I think one of the most beautiful Lhasa’s I’ve ever met.
Gives me hell when I ring the doorbell. Mom has to put him in the van. He won’t let me. But once on the table, he is all snuggled and cuddles. And to make is better, he loves loves loves a bath.

I’m sad and worried. I’ve seen this old man every 3 weeks. And today he had developed a large hard mass on his side. He was obviously in comfortable and hurting. Mom made an emergency vet appointment. And I’m afraid I’ll never see him again. He’s one of my heart dogs. My prayers are with you Toa.

Otis... 13 month old standard poodle. This was his FIRST groom. Challenging to say the least. But once he figured out what I wanted he settled pretty well. His momma lives on the North Shore on Hawaii so Otis had plenty of sand and burry things in his coat. He’s a big big guy.

5 things you need to understand when your senior dog visits the groomer.

1. Humanity over vanity. The comfort of the dog is more important than getting a perfect haircut. There may be some choppy spots because old joints, weak muscles and unstable balance are part of aging and it’s not worth making a senior uncomfortable just to get a perfect haircut.

2. Warts/moles may get irritated. They’re very vascular and they ooze regularly. The combination of warm water, forced air dryers, brushes and clippers may make them bleed a bit. It’s not intentional but it’s unavoidable.

3. We work on their time, not yours. They may need breaks. They may need us to go slower. They may require a second set of hands. We will do what’s necessary to keep them comfortable at the detriment of a human schedule. It’s what’s best for them.

4. The haircut is tailored to their needs not their looks. Wet food doesn’t always go well with a long beard if they no longer like their face handled and you can’t keep it clean, so it needs to go short. Thin skin that tears easily and tangled ears means the ears go short or even shaved. Weak joints and muscles mean less time standing comfortably to have lots of brushing or sc******ng done on the legs, so the hair goes shorter. Keep them comfortable.

5. Sometimes we need to let them go elsewhere. Severe health issues or advanced dementia can mean referring you to a veterinary groomer or recommending home grooming for the safety of your pet. We aren’t firing you, we just know our limits and want what’s best for your dog because we truly care about them.

Work with us and understand that grooming seniors requires some flexibility from you and your expectations need to be realistic to keep your senior dog safe and comfortable. Senior dogs families need to understand and work with me to keep them happy and comfortable, even though it might mean a much shorter less fancy trim. Please allow your groomer to do what’s best your your senior 4 legged family member.
