On Thursday, November 07, 2024 the annual large animal meeting sponsored by the WYNVMA in association with the NYSVMS will be held at the Buffalo Marriott 1340 Millersport Highway, Amherst, NY 14221 (716-689-6900). It will be both in person and via Zoom. The CE event is worth 4 CE credits and runs between 1 pm to 5 pm. There will be lunch business meeting for the WNYVMA at noon for those who come in person.
The topic will be “Have Milk, Now What?” presented by three separate speakers. Alice Clarkson raises goats and has a vibrant business making goat milk soap. She will explain how she does that and how she manages her herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats. Mike Davis (executive at Upstate Milk Co-Operative) will discuss what happens to fluid milk after it arrives at the multiple plants in the WNY region. Molly Moffet is Cheese Operations Manager for Oakfield Corners Dairy (Oakfield Artisanal); she will discuss the ins and outs of cheese making including manufacturing science, principles of moisture & pH, milk quality, and wrapping it up with food safety. Should be interesting to learn how a product “we” help produce is used.
The event is free for all WNYVMA members (and NYSVMS members) and technicians. Please sign up using the website if you can (NYSVMS.org). I will also take registration and payment for non-members at the event.
