BLUE MOON SHEPHERD RESCUE
The dream to save German Shepherds began over 25 years ago. They are one of the most amazing breeds. And then, amazing things happen.

Small foster based non-profit German Shepherd rescue based in Southeast North Carolina dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of German shepherds. There comes a time when you can no longer stand by and watch the pain and suffering and not try to help. You jump in with both feet to try to make a difference. You see these sad, broken dogs become happy, healthy, wonderful companions. Wh
at we do is very difficult, but it must be done. I think the goal of every rescue person is that we are no longer needed - and every animal that comes into this world will have a wonderful home from the day they are born. But until that day comes, our mission is simple: Save as many German shepherds as we can and place them in loving and appropriate homes where they will never know pain and suffering again. We want to give them the wonderful life they should have had but were not given the chance. We are a small organization that is foster based. We rescue dogs from a variety of places. Shelters that are over crowded and have urgent need are our number one priority. We will take owner surrenders when space is available. We make the commitment to each and every animal to resolve any health or behavioral issues prior to adoption, and all dogs are vaccinated, spayed/neutered and heart worm tested and treated if they are positive. All of this takes a great deal of money and we rely on the generosity of the public to help us do our work. German Shepherd Dogs are not for everyone, and as long-time, multiple Shepherd owners ourselves, we are familiar with the type of home/family best suited for this breed. We also take into consideration that each dog is unique and has different needs and temperaments so we do our best to match the wants and desires of our adopters with the needs and requirements of our dogs. We try to ensure that both dog and family are happy with the placement. We do this through our application process which requires a home visit, vet reference check and personal reference checks. We believe this process ensures we are placing our dogs in the homes best suited to them. We make a lifetime commitment to our placements. If for any reason the adoption does not work out or there are life changes and people cannot have our dogs with them, we will take our dogs back. The safety and happiness our dogs is our number one concern. We invite you to share our journey. Donate or foster if you can. Best wishes to all,
Donna J.

Gabriel is settling in. He is a very smart, sweet and loving boy. Turns out he's a champion ball player and always ready for a game of catch. He's gotten the all clear medically. Gabriel loves his foster pack and has had some great play dates with other shepherds. Turns out he has some reactivity to dogs on leash. So, we'll be working on that before he'll be ready for adoption.

A special Mother’s Day wish to all the animal rescue moms who give so much to help save innocent animals. And a big thank you to all the foster moms who open their hearts and homes especially in an emergency situation when you really can’t take one more, but the animal will die if you don't. Thank you for all those extra hours spent watching over and nurturing these sick, frightened and sad animals to help them mend their bodies and minds and find their way. It’s not easy what you do, it takes a very special person. Knowing no matter how many you help save there are always thousand more that need help. There is a lot of heart ache and joy and you keep forging ahead. On this special day, we give you unconditional thanks for being the wonder moms you are. God bless you all.

Dad and Honey retired a few weeks ago and took a cross country trip to celebrate. At one of their stops Honey had to say hello to the Phil, the resident cat. Honey says she misses her brother Spuddy and can't wait to get home. Meanwhile, on the home front, Finn says take your time and has stolen Honey's bed.

Sophie leaving work. She's got some spring to her step.
Indy went to her first physical therapy session today. She did very well but tired pretty quickly. We have a long way to go, but Indy was in great spirits after her session and slept all the way home.
Everyone has been asking about Indy so here's a video. Indy is doing well. She is still favoring her left leg quite a bit so we are having a vet appointment next week to see if she will be well enough for her her second leg surgery which is scheduled for Feb. 1. Indy loves squeaky toys as you can see. Foster mom, not so much!
Look who was feeling sassy today. Little Miss Karma had a big day. First stop the vet's office to get her spay stitches out. Kodiak went for a ride along for moral support. The vet staff said she was very brave, shy but she allowed handling and petting without fear. Then home for a pack walk. After the walk, a cool down in the yard with Kodiak. It's wonderful to see Karma coming out of her shell and having a good time. The best part is she is learning how to be a dog. Thank you Kodiak for all your help.
Eating an apple is now a pack activity. Kodiak (left) Rory, Chaos and Jenna.
It was such a beautiful day, Kodiak wanted to do some training. He really enjoys his food and his training time.
Riley, Rory and Chaos enjoying their daily pack play. Riley trying to keep up with Rory and Chaos who are so fast. Riley is still a growing puppy and won't let it dampen his fun.
Honey was enjoying this weather this morning. She was definitely 'dashing through the snow...'
Luna enjoying her first snow fall.
Ringo helping mom water the plants, or maybe not! Enjoying the last days of warm weather with his little sister who always has to do what her big brother does.
Rory has been with us for a few weeks and it's been baby steps. She had been watching the other dogs play ball but showed little interest. Today Rory broke loose and showed us her version of playing ball. It was good to see her playful and happy. We'll keep you posted on Rory's progress.
Rinnie and Maddie are enjoying their new pool. Rinnie the ever enthusiastic adventurer. Maddie the inquisitive inspector to make sure Rinnie isn't getting himself in trouble again.
Goose was out walking with his foster dad yesterday and kept pulling to the ditch. Then foster dad heard the squeaky cries. Goose pulled to get to a pile of fluff in the ditch. A quick call home and we drove to the ditch to find a tiny kitten, in distress. We scooped him up, got him home and he was covered fleas and in pretty bad shape. We gave him some fluids and did some serious flea combing and wiping to get him cleaned up. We also cleaned his infected eye and so relieved that his eye was OK. Next step trying to find a cat rescue that could take him. As expected the cat rescues were all full but one said they would take him, so off we went. We were told Teddy, as we named him, is about 3 weeks old and probably wouldn’t have lasted a day on his own. Thank you Shelly at RescueConnect for taking Teddy and sending us the great video of him after his bottle feeding and bath. And thank you Goose for finding Teddy and saving him.
