(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that due to an updated weather forecast showing that the current stretch of brutally frigid conditions Connecticut is experiencing will continue for at least another day longer than anticipated, he is extending the duration of the state’s severe cold weather protocol to remain in effect until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025.

The protocol went into effect on Sunday, January 19, and had originally been set to expire on the afternoon of Friday, January 24.

Zen Dog CT foster mom writes "Hazel is my little lovey girl....she loves all people and dogs (of all sizes, she doesn't hesitate to jump in when my big dogs are playing). She's met my 2 year old niece and her entire demeanor changed with her - she knew not to jump and played perfectly with her! My guess is that she is a lab/weimeriener mix - she is INCREDIBLY smart (I swear I can see her processing what I'm saying when I talk to her), and is overall very mature for being so young. She is so playful and goofy, and brave as they come. Her brother is the noisier of the two, and as he's barking and trying to escape the pen, she just lays in her bed like, "what a nut". She is a huge love, and kisses are her all time favorite thing - she loves to randomly jump into my lap and nap laying on me (or if she can't clear a jump she'll slowly try to crawl up my desk chair to sit on my lap while I work). She is so entertained by toys and a good puppy bone will keep her plenty occupied, but she isn't possessive or invasive - she always finishes her meals ahead of her brother and somehow knows to wait until he's done to approach his bowl. She loves going outside and running around, but never goes too far from me which is amazing! My favorite thing about her (besides her being so sweet and cuddly) is these little puppy noises she constantly is making - she isn't a dog that barks much, but she lets out these little purring noises constantly that couldn't be cuter."

Linus is almost ready for his forever home. Zen Dog CT is partnering with an agency that serves adults living in a residential setting.

The dogs in the program receive extensive training, supported by these adults, who in turn learn new skills, and receive the benefit of animal assisted therapy.

Linus is fully vetted ( obviously neutered) and healthy
Potty trained
Obedience trained
People friendly, spends his days socializing in the program
Dog friendly
Cats are not recommended due to Linus's interest ( and aptitude) in chasing squirrels

It's only been a few days since Fancy ( we were going to change her name and somehow we keep calling her Fancy 😆) got here, but from her shelter photo of a betrayed and terrified sensitive girl, she has proven to be friendly, resilient, fully obedience trained ( aside from pulling on her leash).

Welcome Hazel and Jimmy Chew, to Zen Dog CT They are the only safe puppies from a dumped litter. Unfortunately, the finder gave all of them away before we were able to intervene. She doesn't know who has them, no address, no name, nothing.. These 2 were given away to a man, and thankfully, he realized the same day he didn't want them and called her to ask her if she could take them back. We had about a minute to find someone safe to hold them. We're sad about the others, and what life they could have had.
They are currently in a foster home in Connecticut and will be available for adoption. They are on the waiting list for spay/ neuter and ALL Zen Dogs are fixed prior to finalizing adoption ( and we pay).

Meet Gigi. After living on the street in South Texas for two years, Gigi finally had her chance at a new life when a wonderful foster family stepped up. She has completed her heartworm treatment and is heartworm free 🎉🎉

We are seeking a wonderful home for her in Connecticut after everything she's been through. She is fine with cats, likes other dogs and is shy and gentle with people.

🐕🐕 Beanie was first posted two months ago. She was found as a stray at a worksite in Mission. Since then, she’s been spayed and vaccinated and is now in a foster home. She gets along with other dogs and is 4dx negative. We are in need of a rescue tag for her. Currently in McAllen TX.

Please help find a forever home for Beanie. Dogs that look like her are hard to place but she deserves a good life. She’s a good girl. Shes fully vetted and on preventatives. Esmeralda Garcia.

Maxwell and Tigger are STILL waiting for their forever homes. ❄️

They are going to be adopted separately, and are fostered in Milford. Tigger likes Rocky the 🐈 and Maxwell is absolutely a unique character.

I visited Maxwell and Tigger: Back in the USA today at their wonderful foster home. They got to enjoy some cool toys and kisses.

Sweet girl Fancy ( now Maddie) got to ring in the new year, because one person offered to step up and foster! She wasn't ready for her life to end, and now it does not have to!

Every single dog in the world is perfect and deserves a loving home. When this shaky "owner surrender" "Fancy" came into this loud, cold, busy high kill shelter, her face screamed out to the founder of the rescue.

We ALL know a dog that is emotional and sensitive, and does not do well under stress. Our shelters across the US are filled beyond capacity with these loving, deserving souls, with not one person rooting for them, and for this reason, shelters kill them by the millions.

Be that person.

Safe with us 🎄🎄We couldn't resist.

This dog's face is just killing me. Barc Houston.

She's 7 years old and in this picture, she's looking at her owner as he's dumping her right before Christmas, to die in a very high kill shelter. She is really struggling at the shelter with terror. Pitbull type breeds are extremely sensitive and emotional.

They were all just "euthanized" in a South Texas shelter. People are throwing animals away like they are old shoes.

Unfortunately, Rocky's family decided to rehome him, on their own, to family with an unaltered female boxer. The family has a home in Vermont, so we hope he is safe and loved.

Zen Dog CT can take with a foster to adopt (until neutered).

Rocky is up to date on everything and just went to the vet on 18Nov2024 for boosters and exam. Clean bill of health. He is intact because wanted to breed him 🙄.

Born Nov 2022 so he just turned 2 yrs old. Very loving and friendly, typical boxer and very eager to be trained. He wants to be a lapdog.
