A massive thank you to everyone who came along to see my new band Fitz and The Fearless Dogs on Monday. We had a great time and it is totally awesome to have a childhood dream become a reality. Roll on the Isle of Wight festival - we’re ready to rock! Nx

Never give up on your dreams…and always make space in your life for the things that make you happy.

Many of you will know that music is a huge passion of mine, and if you came to see my show last year you will have seen me take early steps to fulfil a childhood dream of learning to play guitar.

Well, I have been practicing for a few months now and I am extremely fortunate that some of my pals are wonderful musicians. So, we have formed a band!

I am a firm believer that it is never too late to try to achieve your dreams. As long as you are bringing joy to the world, don’t listen to the nay-sayers who tell you it cannot be done.

We are extraordinarily blessed to be playing at the Isle of Wight festival this year, and our very first live performance will be at The in my home town of Guildford on Monday 3rd June. It would be great if you fancied coming along. N x

Right all you beautiful people, we have done it! We have totally smashed my target of £20,000 for Humanimal Trust overnight, thanks to YOU, you incredible, generous, compassionate and wonderful people. You supported me when I needed it, and thanks to that, the future for the patients – animal and human - of tomorrow is brighter. Not only does your donation make a massive difference to the charity, but it sends a roar of a statement that society expects a more loving and kind world for animals. The core mission of my life is to deliver just that in return for all that animals give to us.

The fundraiser is still open for a few days and every penny helps fund the education and research which will be needed to study disease in animals and humans at the same time, delivering a win for both – One Medicine.
I am profoundly grateful. I think I need to give myself a bionic leg today 😂 because I am feeling very sore, but my heart is very full.

Thank you with all my heart. X

Hello everyone. Well. I did it.
In 5:28.40 I completed the on behalf of and on behalf of every single animal out there who has known pain or lives with pain and deserves access to treatment and the opportunity to a happy and pain free life.

I did face some challenges. The last ten miles were brutal due my unfortunate ankle pain. My right leg went into muscle spasm, so I had to keep stopping and walking a bit. It was ‘interesting’ run-limping the final three miles cursing my leg which didn’t want to respond to my brain.

But …. I really did feel a pure connectedness with my reason big enough to be there running through what is ultimately a transient pain to support the animals out there who mean so much to me. Sometimes they’re in terrible pain for years. And I’d like to make better treatments available for them because I love them and I want to do my best for them.

The truth is though that we did this together! You and me! With YOUR generosity of spirit and your donations towards my ambitious £20k target, you kept me going. Because I absolutely knew this was possible and I absolutely wanted to do this.

From the bottom of my heart, as I sit here (with my legs wobbling!) I cannot thank you enough. Your donations will really make a huge difference and in our anniversary year I mean to make meaningful progress towards a world where one medicine is a reality.

To everyone who wishes to take on a challenge - please go for it. You are capable. You can make the impossible possible. Regardless of the temporary pain. X

Please help me complete my fundraising target if you can! Link for more info in my bio. X

For the past few weeks I have been training for the great challenge of the . This year is very special to me, as I pledged to run on behalf of the charity I founded 10 years ago, , to further the cause of One Medicine whereby animals and humans move forward together in medical progress.

However, this week I have had to come face to face with a very real potential road block. My ankle, a long term source of difficulty for me and the subject of a number of surgeries - is not coping well. As a result of my training the pain has become severe and I may have to face that I will not be able to run on Sunday, but I sure as heck will be meaning to walk it, thinking of my patients with every single step, who are also living with similar pain caused by arthritis.

My deepest thanks go to everyone who has given me words of support and generously donated. With your help so far I have raised over £5k which is a wonderful amount, and I don’t take that kindness for granted.

I want to run so very much for all of the faith you have placed in me and for the charity I love.

I am manifesting healing and I’ll keep you posted.

Thanks again for your support,

N x

“I rescued Smokey in 2009. It wasn't until I got him home, I noticed the scars on him, and that his leg would shake sometimes when sat down. The vet confirmed that the scars, and the leg shake (probable nerve damage) were more than likely from him being used as a bait dog.

Smokey had separation anxiety, hated being in the car, was scared of other dogs and wouldn't go to the bathroom outside of my parents' back garden, which made going on holiday with him a bit difficult.

With time, we managed to show him that not all people are bad. Cuddles were never in short supply, and we spoilt him all the time. In return, he came out of his shell.

He was incredibly affectionate, stubborn and bossy. He was an all-round good boy. He had his wild moments - like running in at top speed from outside and bouncing off the sofa like it was a crash mat. He made us laugh every day.

Smokey was also incredibly smart.

My mum is hard of hearing, and wears hearing aids. When she doesn't wear them, she can't hear a thing. Smokey somehow knew this and would take her to wherever he knew she needed to be to make the noise that was happening stop.

Smokey had a rocky beginning to his life, but we made sure the rest of his life was one filled with love.

Smokey sadly passed away in July 2022, and we all miss him something dreadful. Losing him inspired me to set up a project to help rescue centres get the things that they need in the run-up to Christmas, and to also volunteer dog walk for the local Dog Trust centre.”

Thank you for sharing your story, Lauren, it sounds like you both took so much from each other which enhanced both of your lives, and that legacy of love lives on through the kindness you continue to do in your voluntary work. Thank you. N x

This is a picture of my beautiful Spanish rescue Bernardo.

He was four months old when we rescued him from a Spanish charity in February 2020.

He has brought us so much joy, especially when my husband went through a mental health breakdown. He has been quite challenging at times due to his reactive behaviour but with the help of a psychologist and some training he has done so well.

I think he is the best he can be. He shows us so much love and asks for love with his big paws. We would never change him!”

Nothing worth having comes easy and it sounds like despite the challenges you and Bernardo have pushed through the obstacles and found the love and light on the other side. Thank you for sharing your story Esther. N x

My friend Hector is a beautiful boy with both elbows badly affected by developmental elbow disease. His family came to see me all the way from Wales to see what their options were to relieve his severe pain. He had worn away the cartilage on the insides of both elbows such that they were bone-on-bone. I have described how this happens in my stories if you’re interested.

I performed two sliding humeral osteotomies (SHO) surgeries and injected regenerative stem cells for both elbows. SHO is an advanced procedure that is currently offered in only a few veterinary hospitals worldwide. I was part of the development team years ago, have performed hundreds of these procedures over the years, and published widely on the procedure. It involves cutting the humerus (upper arm bone) and fixing it in a new position using a special stepped bone plate and screws. This transfers weight away from the diseased inner part of the elbow to the healthier outer part.

I used a custom made implant unique for Hector that I designed with my engineering team at Fitzbionics. We are the only practice in the world equipped to offer this particular option. I hope this proedure will give Hector a new lease of life.

This boy is very special to his family and to all of us and we wish him a speedy recovery. I’ll give you a further update when both elbows are healed.

My lovely Fia came into my life in 2020. From day one she was a complete bundle of fun and never stopped zoomies and loved life to the full. I took her to classes every week for recall and lead walking etc. Fia was mostly very good and came back 99% of the time but one day that all changed…

In October 2022 I was walking by the river in Weybridge with a friend and Fia suddenly ran up the bank after a squirrel and that was it. She was hit by a car. We just heard the brakes and a scream then it all went quiet. I completely froze but my friend rushed up and was fantastic! She stopped the man in the car who had hit Fia to find a blanket or coat in his car to pick Fia up with and then we bundled her in his car and he drove to a vet nearby.

Fia had clearly been hit on the back of her head as her eyes were displaced and she was absolutely petrified. It was the most horrific time. The vets sedated her and then we had to drive her to a specialist vet where they stitched her eyes back in her head – she also had a fractured skull. She was in hospital for two days and then she came home – very stressful time for both of us.

We had to learn together how to navigate things now her sight was so damaged – I have learned not to move anything! The only commands I use are “up” “down” and “careful” she seems to know what each command means and rarely bumps into things anymore! She even goes to day care still once a week.

It was extremely hard and I never thought she would ever be the same again but she has proved me wrong on all accounts! She has mastered the house, the garden, my daughter’s house and garden and various pubs! The only thing she isn’t keen on is walking on her own with me.

I love her to bits and she is such a clever girl. Blind dogs can have very happy lives!”

Sounds like you had quite the ordeal Frances, but together you have held on tight and make a fantastic team. Through the hardest times the best bonds shine through. Thank you for sharing your story. N x
