Stepping Stones Canine rescue - About Us

With years of animal rescue and fostering experience between them, a group of friends recognized the need for a canine only rescue group in the Triad area. Consolidating their shared goal to help dogs of all breeds find the best possible home, while also matching adopters with their ideal companion, they joined forces to create a new rescue group. Stones Canine Rescue is a charitable and educational non-profit corporation, located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Our volunteers share an enthusiasm for dogs and support a mission to rescue, protect, provide sanctuary and ultimately find adoptive families for abandoned, stray and neglected dogs. All of our dogs are housed in foster homes where they are provided with an enormous amount of love and any medical attention needed to insure their best health before adoption. All dogs are evaluated for temperament and personality, helping us to place them in homes that are well suited to their needs and to the needs of their future family.

This morning's rescue. These little babes were born to a 10 year old mama dog who wasn't able to fully care for them. They are about a week old. And yes, someone is involved in trying to get mom spayed. Unfortunately, it's not as easy as just offering. Sometimes people are very resistant to this sort of thing and the best we can do is help the babies right now.

Little Quinn (if we can still call her little 😅) went to the vet today for her second puppy shots and weighed in at 8.8 lbs! For being the runt, she's suddenly catching up to her siblings fast! We are so proud of how far she's come. Quinn got a clean bill of health and you can now barely see the scar on her face where she was injured by her dog mom.

You all showed up for us today and we are so grateful! Our bake sale was a huge success, bringing in more than $1200 in much needed funds. Thank you so much to those who baked, to everyone who came out to see us and to buy baked goods! Thank you to Pet Supermarket for hosting us and to Carters for letting us take over part of their store front! We could not care for all of these dogs without all of you 🫶

We also took home some tired pups 😁 Our next round of processing will begin on Monday and we will touch base with everyone who submitted an application.

Baked goods drop off starts tonight! We will be at Pet Supermarket in Thruway Shopping Center this evening from 6 - 6:30 to accept items for tomorrow's fundraiser! You can also drop off between 9 - 9:30 tomorrow morning before the sale gets underway. If you're baking for us - thank you thank you thank you on behalf of the dogs!

Treat Yo'self on Saturday!

Not only to some delicious baked goods but also to some puppy love!

Bake sale will run 10 - 3. Adoption fair will run 11 - 2 (the full 5 hours is just too much for the dogs!)

We are also still seeking bakers to make items for our sale! Breads, cakes, half cakes, savory items still needed. If you can help, send us a message or drop off baked goods starting at 9 am the day of the sale!

Our little Spaniel is ready for adoption! We've been working on getting Cinnamon's ear infection under control, and he is doing well! We are ready to accept applications on him, and Cinnamon will attend our adoption fair this Saturday during our Bake Sale at Pet Supermarket! If you are interested in adopting this boy, please make sure to 1) RESEARCH these breeds and 2) ATTEND the event on Saturday to meet him!

**Please visit Cinnamon at our Adoption Fair and Bake Sale* Saturday, November 16th 11am - 2pm at Pet Supermarket 412 S. Stratford Rd. Winston-Salem, NC. **

Breed: Cavalier King Charles/Cocker Spaniel mix (bred that way purposely, for whatever reason) Cinnamon was purchased, but his owner recently went into hospice care and he came to the rescue.

Date of Birth: 03/29/2023

Weight: 27 lbs

Favorite Things: SNIFFING the GROUND, playing, walks, car rides, toys, just about anything!

Notes from Foster: Cinnamon is a very well rounded dog. Would probably do best with another doggie playmate. He is good with kids, cats, and of course other dogs. He is very happy, playful, and easy going. Loves to lay with his people and not overly energetic. Has had some professional training so is well behaved and knows basic commands.

Crate Trained/House Broken: Yes and yes. However, he is young and recently neutered so may have a slight setback in a new home but will quickly come around. He will also whine and scratch for a while when first put in his crate but seems to do better in the company of another dog.

Fenced Yard: Although he walks well on a leash, a fenced yard will be required due to him constantly following his nose and trying to chase birds and squirrels.

Medical Notes: Cinnamon is neutered, microchipped, UTD on vaccines, flea & HW prevention. He is currently being treated for an ear infection and doing well. Any adopter should be aware that his breed mix is prone to ear infections, and he will need lifetime ear care and grooming.

It's time to meet the Harley Quinn litter! Come on out and join us Saturday morning for an Adoption Fair and Bake Sale event! The Bake Sale will run 10 am - 3 pm at Pet Supermarket in Thruway Shopping Center, 412 S. Stratford Rd, Winston-Salem 27103. And YES! We ARE still accepting bake good sign ups and people to help staff the bake sale tables!

The new pups and several of our other adoptable dogs will be available to meet from 11 am - 2 pm this day! Pictured below are Ivy, Nora, Tawny, Clay, Frank, and Sy. Just a little mid week hello from our Harley Quinn Litter! Feels like we can all use some puppies in our feed today 💓

Say hello to Clay, Frank, Sy, Ivy, Nora, Tawny and of course little Quinn!

Pups are all doing great, working on getting healthy, and will be ready to meet everyone on Saturday, Nov 16th at our Bake Sale event! Make sure to mark your calendars! We will post more info and individual photos of the pups next week.

Little Quinn had her first big girl meal from a bowl this week! We are currently working on one meal from a bowl per day and will ramp that up in the hopes of transitioning her off of the bottle in the next week. A slow weaning process tends to be better for them in the long run. Stay tuned for more updates on this little baby as she grows! Stepping Stones is located in Winston-Salem NC. Puppy cam! Our little Maltese/poodle mixes are feeling SO MUCH better after being deflea'd and dewormed this week. And they have names! Please say hello to Morticia, Freddy, Michael, Jason, and Elvira Most puppies contract roundworms from their mom when nursing, and when left untreated this can be extremely dangerous. We have not seen puppies in this bad of shape from worms in a while. The night they came in, we realized they were extremely lethargic and not acting like normal 7 week old puppies. We immediately dewormed them, and they are still expelling loads of parasites days later. But you can see here that they have really pepped up and are feeling a lot better. We are grateful to have gotten them when we did. And to have experienced foster homes who can recognize when something like this is wrong. The pups go to the vet tomorrow! And as long as they keep improving, we should be ready to introduce them to you next weekend (Sept 29) We will begin accepting applications at that time so stay tuned! Dreary Monday? Here's a kitten race for you. Queso and Pico are 3 weeks old now and starting to really move! They've got a vet visit tomorrow for a check up. These little babes will be available for adoption in about a month so stay tuned!

Just a little kitten feeding to brighten up your day! The babies are going strong so far! Queso is our white male bottle baby. Pico is our female torti. Her video will be in the comments since FB business page only allows one video in the main post. In case you missed it, no we do not normally bring kittens into our program but sometimes life happens! These babies were found and rescued by one of our volunteers. They will be available to adopt through Stepping Stones in about 5 weeks 🥰 Stepping Stones is located in Winston-Salem NC. Lovethemutt.org
