The DNA results are in… I am not surprised by Siberian Husky but I am surprised by German Shepherd and Great Pyrenees. Ears up or ears down that will be a mystery as well. But one thing for sure is, that she is LOVED!

Where does one begin when you have been on a roller coaster of emotions. When Jackson died early August, I truly thought it would be a long time before I could open up to loving another dog. So many of you know how difficult it is to lose a pet. The emptiness is so physical.

I have a sign in my house says, “I can live without a lot of things, but dogs are not one of them”.

During some very sad days I started “just looking” at puppies that were available through adoption. And on a particularly tearful evening, after some rains, there was a rainbow and as the rainbow faded an eagle flew by just at the tips of the trees. I felt it was my sign from Jackson telling me to love again.

After “just looking” on Petfinders there was one puppy face I kept coming back to, so I filled out an application. The application was accepted and the process began. After a meet and greet, it was determined that I was a match. It was so exciting and yet there was apprehension too. Jackson was such an obedient boy and to start fresh again with a puppy...I wasn't sure.

But here we go! The day I picked her up at a dog park in the cities, we were waiting for the foster mom and, crazy enough, an eagle flew over. I was overcome with emotion.

So let me introduce you to Andi…

It is with a terribly heavy heart and a lot of tears that I share with you that Jackson's journey with me has come to an end.

Jackson has been the CEO, Canine Executive Officer, of my business but more importantly, he has been my inspiration and companion for nearly 12 years. Jackson passed away in my arms on Wednesday night, August 6, just two days shy of his 12th BARKday.

He was such a unique, smart, quirky, obedient, loving, little rescue pup. I thank Safe Hands Rescue for the rescue work they do and for giving me the honor to adopt such a special dog.

He loved his treats from his own business, his green water dish, his king size bed which he commanded 1/2 of, taking naps in his really fluffy blankets, string cheese, chasing squirrels and chipmunks, going for walks but definitely NOT car rides. He loved adventures and shopping (but again not the car rides), his dental chewy, basking in the sun, watching tv on the couch with his human, scratches (always in the morning and whenever else he wanted them), Cheerios, and peanut butter. Most of all, he loved life and his humans.

Thank you Heritage Pet Hospital for the exceptional care he received. Dr. Watson always enjoyed his “helicopter” whirling tail when she examined him and Dr Toddie in his last few days noticed what a good boy he was when taking x-rays, getting injections and swallowing pills. Thank you to the techs who carefully drew blood and handled him with compassion, and the front desk staff who greeted us with a smile and talked to Jackson as they welcomed us to our appointments.

My life is forever changed. Thank you Jackson for sharing yours with me! I have and always will love you!
