Echo needs your help everyone! Please donate if you can and share this post!

We recently partnered up with Destiny at Kind K9 to help this beautiful girl get out of a terrible situation. She came into care with Destiny a shut down and very traumatized dog, but she has come along by leaps and bounds since getting the care she needs and having her needs appropriately met.

There is only one obstacle she is still having trouble with and that is confinement. She is an escape artist and has proven very difficult to keep safely contained while Destiny works elsewhere on the property. She is damaging things as well. We want to make sure she is safe and that Destiny’s home is not damaged more, so we would like to provide an escape proof crate for her, the cost of which is close to $300. Due to low funds and everything tagged for vetting costs right now, we simply cannot afford this. We need some help please.

If you can donate anything at all to help with this crate fund for Echo, we would be ever so grateful. Also, sharing the post helps a lot too! Thank you so much!

For any donation over $20 you will receive a handmade cloth loop handle keychain as pictured next to Echo. Many designs available and we will pay shipping. 😊

Please share! Some of these babies have been waiting a very long time. Too long. 💔

We have 6 dogs available for adoption right now who are just not getting the attention they deserve! Some are in Nova Scotia and a few are in New Brunswick as well. Please share this post far and wide so that we are more likely to reach their potential homes! Thank you!

Description of each dog is attached to their picture. More pictures/videos/information upon request. Please send us a message for any inquiries. 😊

Trigger warning: this is a tough post. Big emotions are to be expected.

This post is to honour the life of a sweet puppy named Winnie who was massively let down recently by the local NS rescue who had taken her in to find her a better life. I believe this beautiful girl lost her life very literally for the sake of convenience. She most definitely did not deserve to die, ask any of her fosters, one who is a respected trainer. As far as I am learning, she is not the only one.

This post is the only way I know to get Winnie at least some of the justice she deserves. Her story needs to be spoken and heard and believed.

I do not make posts like this lightly. I gave this rescue person the benefit of the doubt time and time again, not only when my own alarm bells kept going off whenever I tried to work with her, but also when everyone else was throwing her under the bus recently due to another dog who died in her care. I wanted to believe in her so badly. I believed in the incredible image she created and portrayed to the public of what her rescue mission was all about. And so I kept trying to believe in her.

Until now. Until I directly dealt with her about Winnie’s situation and saw how it all unfolded.

Now, what I truly believe in my heart of hearts is that she is a danger to rescue dogs, especially behavioural cases, and that she should not be taking in any dogs ever again. Again, I do not say this sort of thing lightly at all. I always support good rescues and good rescue people. As of now I can no longer say I support this person or her rescue, and I warn anyone against surrendering their dogs to her, or fostering/adopting from her.

I will not say her name or the rescue’s name directly. But I invite anyone who has had experiences with her to please share in the comments. You all will know who I am talking about.

Here is Winnie’s story.

-Winnie was tagged by this rescue a number of months ago through another rescue who saves dogs out of Ontario/Quebec shelters. Regardless of what you may have heard about her history in posts by the rescue, she was picked up as a stray on the loose. No big dramatic rescue story, which has been portrayed in posts seeking placements for her. She was a stray. I have seen the actual shelter papers.

-Winnie went through at least 6 foster homes from the time she was transported to NS until her death. No training support was ever offered to the fosters even though they all begged over and over again for help as her normal puppy behaviours started to escalate into worse behaviours due to her anxiety increasing with each move. One of the rescue’s trainers actually worked with the first foster in secret because she was not allowed to officially help her. A training plan was given to her and passed down from foster to foster, but by this time her issues had escalated and her needs were greater than this plan could help.

-The second last foster placement she had is a long time team member of Fetch a Dog Rescue who I had recommended to this rescue, knowing they had need of fosters. When it was clear that Winnie was not doing well in the environment at her home, she was sent to yet another foster (a trainer) who had limited time available to foster, but it was the only place she could go.

-Her concerning behaviours were escalating more and more with every home she was moved to. Some even more concerning behaviours came forward in this last foster home, perfectly understandable given how many homes she had been passed around from, never able to decompress properly. These behaviours would have been easily worked out with time, and the right training and environment. All she really needed was some stability. The rescue person was not only notified of all of the behaviours, it was also requested several times to have the dog seen by a vet to just rule out that there wasn’t a medical issue there. No funds for a vet were the excuse she gave not to take action.

-During the several months in foster care, and through every home she had, many requests for vetting papers to prove that Winnie was up to date on vaccines were requested. These were always thwarted with excuses, and still to this day no one has ever seen proof that she was ever vaccinated at all. Two of the foster homes she sent this pup to run dog based businesses out of their homes and have their own personal pets. They were very concerned, and rightly so. This rescue person expected them to just take her word for it.

-When Winnie’s last foster gave so many warnings that the time was coming up that she could no longer keep her, she was met with excuses, and then no responses, and eventually she had to take matters into her own hands. She contacted the SPCA to take her as she didn’t know what else to do, and they would not take her given that they were pretty full and her training needs were too high. They then gave her the official address of this person’s rescue, her home, and the foster took her there to drop her off. The foster had no other choice.

-With no other place for her to go, Winnie was then placed in a temporary home. She spent her last days in a crate in a man’s entryway, a dog known to be very fearful of men. She urinated and defecated frequently in the crate. There was nothing he could do about it. The rescue person came a few times a day to clean up after her and take her out. But she lived out her last days mostly in that crate.

-At this time, a week ago today, Winnie was taken into the vet for an appointment set for her to be euthanized. She had not been assessed by any vet or had any testing done at all prior to this appointment. In fact she has never been known to see a vet at any time at all while in this rescue’s care until this appointment was made to euthanize her.

-After Winnie’s death the previous two fosters of Winnie, one of which is on our team at FAD, were told in a chat shared with the rescue person, of her death. The reasons given were this exactly:

“Winnie had two tumours located on her brain stem. Nothing you did or didn’t do, or anyone else involved with Winnie is at fault.

She didn’t put a scratch in my ruffland but escaped a wire crate - we had zero inside accidents and she didn’t chew her bowls or food. So she was entirely different here on every level.
Until one day she decided to try to bite and then lunged at someone she knows, female as well. When she did that I immediately took her in on Monday and the vet had to sedate her because they could t examine her- she kept going in a weird attack state and it was completely unprompted.

They advised there was a clear neurological issues and suggested euthanasia. They did a necropsy and found two tumours….”

-When I asked her to please share copies of the vet records and necropsy report so that these fosters could get closure and know that she died for a reason, she stated:

“It was a very sad situation so I left abruptly so I asked for whatever reports they have - that’s what the vet tech said….”

-She has never sent any vet records, necropsy reports, or any information or evidence at all to help ease the minds and hearts of Winnie’s previous fosters, to show that her death was justified, despite several requests from both them and me. Winnie’s life was taken a week ago. The rescue person has stopped responding about the paperwork and is now threatening legal actions because this beautiful baby’s fosters publicly posted about her, without permission, simply saying “hug your babies close tonight” and “RIP” attached to a picture of Winnie.

-A few days after her life was taken, the rescue shared a post telling about Winnie’s death. In this post the story changes from what her fosters were told. It says:
“…Winnie started to decline quickly and when seen by our vet, discovered she had two tumours. One was located on her brain stem and inoperable. We followed our vets advice and allowed Winnie to rest in peace while on our arms…”. Again, Winnie had never seen any vet in the rescue’s care prior to the appointment made to have her euthanized. And the intention for the appointment (euthanasia) was made known to people before she even entered the vet’s office with Winnie.

-Winnie died with only that rescue person and the vet in the room with her. No one else. No one who really knew and loved her was anywhere nearby, or even knew it was happening.

A lot of people who still want to support her may say there must be more to the story, or there are always two sides etc. To that I say one thing: All she needs to do is share those vet reports, either publicly, or more appropriately to the people who knew and cared for and loved Winnie. Unless and until she does, I truly believe she has a lot of explaining to do and so should everyone else. If she doesn’t provide the proof as to how and why Winnie’s life was justifiably taken, how can she ever be fully trusted with any dog put into her care?

Also to those people who still doubt, I ask, where is the training facility that she claims to have been building for years now, getting grants for and collecting donations for? I have been being told “it’s almost ready, just a few weeks away and I can help all the problem dogs!”, for well over a year now. There is no facility anywhere in actual fact. Ask her for proof that it exists.

How about the off leash dog park on her property that is available to rent? Does anyone know anyone who has actually used this? I challenge any of you to send your money for a session and see what happens.

Also, she claims to be a registered not for profit, seeking donations as one, and saying she can and will give tax receipts to those supporting her rescue. Please feel free to check into these claims. It’s not a hard search to do. (Fetch a Dog is not a registered NFP and I have always been completely transparent about that and my very valid reasons why. Feel free to ask around. I have never and would never lie about this. It’s always best to be upfront and honest.)

There is so very much more to this whole story than this but it’s far too much to even begin to try to get it all in any kind of post. So I’ll just leave it at what I’ve said here. I feel I’ve said enough. I also think the comment section will end up speaking for itself. I welcome people to share their stories. People need to know what this rescue is really like directly from people who have had experiences with them.

I am truly not doing this for the sake of drama. I am doing this for the sake of the dogs, and for the sake of the many fosters and adopters who have struggled greatly after working with this rescue. Also, the incredible team members she had on board who believed in her too, and who had put so much into supporting this rescue, only to be let down as well. To spread the word as far as possible so that hopefully less dogs, and people, get hurt. I truly believe that this person should not be running a rescue. Dogs are being mishandled by her and some are losing their lives because of it. This is just not ok.

Please light a candle today for this sweet baby girl who did not deserve to lose her life because of a few bad behaviours. Any rescue should fight tooth and nail to help a dog like Winnie. I know we would have never given up on her like that under those circumstances. This beautiful girl truly deserved a long life of love and safety and commitment.

RIP beautiful girl. You will never be forgotten. ❤️💔❤️

We here in Canada/NS are at a crisis point, where we have not been for many many years now. It looks more and more like the southern US here every day and for anyone in rescue locally this is absolutely heart breaking! Please share this to spread awareness! People need to make an educated decision before bringing home a dog.

“…So this is me begging once again. If you are going to get a dog….PLEASE, PLEASE TRAIN! Take your dog for some classes, socialize your dog and get your dog FIXED!!! I heard a quote but don’t remember who said it “ having an untrained dog is hard, training your dog is hard. Pick your hard wisely, your dogs life is dependent on this.”

I cried today, in my office and not a few tears and a sniff. I actually ugly cried.

There seems to be no words to make the general public understand what a disaster the rescue word is in. I see all my FB friends post the same thing and yet nothing is getting better, on the contrary it seems to be getting worse.
People are getting dogs and failing them, failing them HUGE.

Today I stroked a 7 mos old baby while he was being humanely put to sleep, yes you read this correctly…7 mos old. Such a behavioural disaster due to his owners failing him he was a danger. I told him he was the bestest of boys, told him that the other side was so much better. He would no longer live in fear and could run, play and have all the treats he could ever want. I don’t believe in God but I lied to this baby and told him, God would take care of him and love him and as I spoke I really wanted it to be true.

We need to do better, something has to change. I’m not sure what it will take to make people understand, please don’t breed your dog if you don’t know what you are doing, don’t be a back yard breeder!!!!!!

All you need to do is walk through any shelter to see this. The shelters are FULL, the rescues are all FULL!!! Everyone is FULL. But mostly I look at my coworkers, the sadness in all of us is palpable. The team I work with is amazing, supportive and so caring. How long any of us can continue is a mystery.

So this is me begging once again.

Tomorrow is a new day, where I will again be hopeful that things will change, today I do not have this optimism.

Much love to all that have read this and most importantly, much love to your dogs. Celine ❤️

*Adopted!*

We’re helping this sweet senior boy find the perfect home to spend his senior years hopefully being spoiled rotten and loved perfectly. His name is Max and he is 12 years old. He is neutered. He is great with cats and rabbits and other dogs. He has also lived with children. He usually does well in the house but once in a while may have an accident. He does need to be watched around food as he will eat whatever he can get to. He barks only when there is something important to bark about. He’s not a fan of being left alone, but he does ok and doesn’t need to be crated.

If you think you could offer this cute little senior dude a place to live out his final years, please send us a message and let’s discuss. We are working as the middle person to help
the owners find a perfect home for him.

Willow is now fully vetted and seeking a home of her own! Please share!

From her foster: “Willow is around 2 years old and she is a lab mix. She is a fairly energetic girl; she prefers to run rather than walk. Lol! She enjoys being outside and loves to play. She is crate trained and willingly goes there when told but prefers to sleep on the couch at night. Willow is good with kids and other dogs but has very little experience with cats. She did chase a kitty once, but not in play, not aggressively. She is fairly obedient but does need someone willing to work on her manners with her, mainly with food on kitchen counters. She is a little jumpy on first greetings but moves on afterwards. She travels well and she listens quite well off leash but will wander if you're not paying attention. She is a very friendly dog and would make a good companion for an active person or family.”

If you would like to learn more about Willow please send us a message. If you would like to apply please fill out the application below.

Clark is a big handsome dude who is seeking a new home. His rescuer has offered to cover his vetting for us until his adoption fee comes in so that we are able to take him in.

This boy is an American Bully/Lab mix, and he will be three in October. He is a truly sweet boy who loves all people he has met, including children. He lived with cats and likes other dogs as well. He has never lived with other dogs but has socialized with others.

He is crate trained and doesn't mind his nails being clipped. He needs to be secure as he will wander if given the chance. He will bark protectively on his property but is not aggressive in any way at all.

The main thing this boy needs work on is leash manners. In his temporary spot now, he does pull a lot on a short lead but on a long line he doesn't at all. He is being worked on to help him get better with this. He would need a very strong handler until he learns to pull less while being walked on a regular leash, and someone willing and able to train him on his leash manners.

Clark is seeking a foster home just to start, hopefully where they are looking to adopt him if he is the right match. We would really prefer not making him move around too much if possible. If you think this may be you, please contact us on the page, or fill out the adoption application below.

Please share this post! Thank you!

*On a trial adoption!*

Meet Otto!
This sweet boy, approximately 2 years old, has nothing but love to share with everyone! He was picked up as a stray in Quebec, and then saved from the euthanasia list at the shelter. He went to a boarding facility and then made his way to Nova Scotia where he’s been with his foster mum Natacha since the end of May.

He’s young, smart, motivated and very willing to please. He’s gotten along perfectly with all of the new friends he’s met, whether 4 legged or 2. He has met a dog savvy toddler several times with no issue. Otto lives with 3 cats that are very used to different dogs passing through and while he still gets a little excited, he has absolutely no ill intent towards them. He can be a bit exuberant when it comes to playing with other dogs, but he’s very respectful when they tell him enough is enough. This will improve as he matures and is neutered as well.

Otto has attended several obedience group classes and loved them! The more enthusiastic his handler is, the quicker and more willing he gets. Otto has a solid sit. Down, stay, heel and place are coming along well and we practice daily. Otto knows to sit and wait for meals and does well in his crate all day while foster mum is at work.

Overall he’s a sweet, goofy, loving, uncomplicated boy who would love to find his forever home. If you have any questions please reach out to us or Natacha. She'll be paying attention to your comments!

If you already know that this boy would be the perfect match for your home and you'd like to apply, please fill out the application below. He would be a foster to start until we can get his vetting completed.

Please share this post so we are sure to reach this boy's perfect home. Thank you!

Please share this especially if you are connected in the rescue community. These amazing rescue volunteers in Ontario need help to save more dogs in terrible need of getting out of the overcrowded shelters in Quebec. We have worked with them for years, and you couldn’t find better people to work with. They are desperate for help! We can only do so much as the little rescue we are. Let’s get them some more help!

***If you are actively seeking a rescue dog to adopt, please reach out to us with a message. We are trying to help some really wonderful dogs who are in danger right now!***

There are several dogs in grave danger of being euthanized in Quebec in the next day or two, who we are hoping to help save. There are also 9 dogs in boarding who were already saved but who have no rescue commitments yet. The ones in the shelter cannot be saved unless they have rescue commitments or unless some of the others in boarding get rescue commitments so there is space in boarding for them.

We are gathering info on these dogs right now. Perhaps one will be a perfect match for you, and you can be assured that your rescue adoption not only saved a life, but likely made space to save another. That’s two lives saved because you choose adoption. Let’s see if one of these deserving dogs is the perfect dog for you.

Please share this post far and wide so that we can gather as many names as possible of potential adopters. We are hoping to match as many of these dogs as possible. Let’s see how many dogs we can all save together today!

Pics are of some of the dogs already saved and waiting in boarding. I can share what info we have on them to anyone who may be interested in any of these babies ( some not pictured here yet). Pics of shelter dogs in danger can only be shared privately as we are not allowed to post publicly. Info will also be shared upon request.

Gotti (Gaw-tee) is in desperate need of a saviour right now. This beautiful Bull Mastiff/Cane Corso mix boy just turned 2 years old two days ago.

Unfortunately, Gotti has not had the best upbringing, and recently the uncle of the person who had him took him in to get him out of the situation he was in. Sadly, because this boy has not done well with the other dog in the home, he is needing to be confined to a basement for much of the time, this going on since Christmas time. He really needs a good home where he will be given the best life he deserves with his very own person/people.

Large breed/specific breed experience would be a must for this boy. He has not had the best guidance and leadership in the past, and really needs that now. As you can see in the video, he does very well with the uncle who has been doing the best he can with him. You can also see how smart and willing to please this boy is in the right hands. He also LOVES car rides!

This boy would need a pet free and child free home. He does not get along with other dogs and is not known with cats. His needs are too high for children.

He has shown some forms of fear aggression in the form of growls with both his previous owner, and also people who are fearful/intimidated by him. He has never bitten anyone. He is just insecure and lacks experience and leadership. In the right hands, this boy will flourish. He will only be going to the exact right person/people for him.

If you think you may be the just the right person this boy needs to give him the best life possible, please send us a message in our inbox. If we think you have great potential to be a match for this boy, we’ll pass you along to the person who has him.

Please, please share this post! It’s the only way this boy may find his best possible home. Thank you!

*Please share this post! Thank you!*

Fetch a Dog Rescue fans, we DESPERATELY need your help and support right now! We have some MAJOR fundraising to do for a very special dog who we recently had saved from euthanasia. It was known that Coco had some hind leg issues, but she is such an amazing dog and we couldn’t let her die. Now we really need your help to give her the pain free life she truly deserves.

It is suspected that Coco may have not just one, but possibly two ACL’s that may require surgery. Between her spay and x-ray appointment that needs to be done asap, and the surgeries, which would be spread out over the near future, her vetting needs could come in at well over $10000 when all is said and done. WE REALLY NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE!!!

Coco has some amazing fosters who love her and plan to adopt her. They cannot let this amazing girl go. They have shared their heartwarming story of bringing Coco into their lives which I will share here with you.

“Coco arrived at our home only a week after our beloved Mabel passed away. All of us (myself, my husband and two teens) were heartbroken with the loss but this time we knew that we would not wait very long before inviting another dog into our home. The last time we had a loss we waited 5 months before adopting again and frankly it was excruciating. As a family we decided that it was possible to grieve the loss of one dog and also save the life of another. Coco has made remarkable progress since coming to live with us. In the beginning she was so tired from stress that she would fall asleep the moment anyone petted her. She spent a lot of time sleeping on the couch and being loved.

At first she was a bit reactive on leash and also very slow on her walks. She had no knowledge of play or fetching or fun at all . She was afraid of the stairs and our guess is that she was kept for breeding and that is it. All of her puppy instincts had been suppressed.

Over time, with a deeper sense of trust she has started coming awake to her true 3 year old nature. We taught her play bow and encouraged her to play with us and now she approaches every dog she meets with curiosity and an invitation to play. It is so heartening to witness her coming alive! She even chased her tail the other day!

With some metacam her mobility has improved dramatically and now she is an eager participant on her walks. We are hoping to get her off leash and spayed soon so that she can fully enjoy playing with other dogs.

She has been a gift and a delight to welcome into our home and I am not sure that any dog has been loved more. There is something innate in everyone's desire to see her thrive and be allowed to be a puppy rather than just a breeder.

Thank you for all your support with the fundraising. Coco thanks you too.”

——————————————

*Our first fundraiser idea is to have volunteers put on yard sales in their own communities to help us raise funds specifically for Coco. I have changed the idea so that people can plan the sale on any weekend of their choosing all spring/summer/fall long. This way it opens up the possibility of more volunteers. If you love putting on yard sales and also love supporting rescue dogs, please, please consider putting one on for us this yard sale season. All we ask is that you connect with us to let us know so that we can help you promote your sale, and then we also know where and when some funds may be coming in from.

Please share this post far and wide, and thank you for considering helping us out with this fundraising event.

If you have any other ideas on how you could help us raise some funds, please contact us! We would love to hear from you! Coco truly needs all the help she can get right now.
