I rarely post on this page for many reasons. The main one being that Facebook is extremely limiting to its reach (audience) unless we pay for their services. My personal page Cody Clark-Salberg is where I've been most active in posting regarding students, horses, and events.

With that said - we are still actively coaching gymkhana and have even added a few english students to join on our journey into the hunter/jumper world.

We are excited to announce we are moving home base to Sutherlin and partnering with Fair Oaks Ranch to add some schooling horse options for new riders!

Note: Prospective students must be 8+ years old.

Great work today to all my students who showed! But a huuuugggeeee shout out to Hope who really pushed through her anxiety after a pretty rough start to the day.

You're an amazing young lady and came back stronger than ever in your riding classes.

Facebook is supposed to be SOCIAL, so let's learn about each other and our horses!

Have you ever...

- Trained & broke your own horse: Yes a few.
- Swam with a horse: Not technically swam.
- Shot a gun or bow off a horse: Only next to them not off their back.
- Driven a horse in a trailer over 500 miles at one time: I think I max out at 300ish
- Ridden in a horse drawn cart or carriage: Surprisingly no
- Gotten bucked off: Yes, lots.
- Had your horse run away with you: Yes, worse than bucking IMO.
- Won a belt buckle: Yep 🌟
- Won any trophies with your horse: Actual trophies? I don't think so, but tons of prizes.
- Still have the trophies: Some
- Ended up in ER because of horses: Never🤞 but definitely should have gone a few times.
- Been kicked by a horse: Handful of times. All my own fault.
- Been bit by a horse: Bit only one time.
- Ridden a horse in another country: Never left the country.
- Ridden a gaited horse: Lots
- Ever had to put a horse down: Many. It comes with being a good owner for a lot of years. Plus working with rescues etc.
- Paid too much for a horse: Never. Bargain hunter here.
- Got a great bargain on a horse: Every time.
- Won money with your horse: Yep!
- Let a horse go and regret it: Na. Life is too short for regrets.
- Ridden in the dark: Used to ride home across town after drill team practice in the dark a lot.
- Rode double with your date: Back in high school.
- Been in an obstacle trail competition: Yes, love it. Something I should consider doing again.
- Ridden a trained cutting horse: Not by any pro standards. Just amateur home trained stuff.
- Jumped a course of fences: Not yet! Soon though.
- Ridden sidesaddle: Just goofing off.
- Gone fox hunting: Not a thing around here.
- Camped with your horse: Yes and love it.
- Have your horse(s) escape and have to track it down: Mhmm... Never hard to find them though.
- Ridden in a parade: Probably 50+
- Personally watched a foal being born: Not start to finish, something I'd like to do though. Someday.

If you have one handy, post a favorite picture of you and your horse.

Is there anything better than just nailing the basics? That 3rd turn was 🤌 *chefs kiss* perfect.

New student Madi is just getting back into riding and she's doing fantastic brushing the cobwebs off her skills.

✨️ WELCOME TO THE TEAM ABI! ✨️

Abi has been accepted as our working student for October. She joins us with a great background in horsemanship and has shown she is ambitious to learn more. She has participated in 4h, jumping competitions, and has owned horses in the past - where she dabbled in liberty work.

I also wanted to say Thank You to all of the other applicants. It was wonderful to see such interest in this program, and I hope everyone continues to follow for more fun opportunities.

Working Student Opportunity

Location:
Lookingglass, OR (Roseburg area)

Time Expectation:
- 1st day - Riding Lesson (No Cost).
- 2nd day - Ride work on skills.
- 3rd day - Ride work on skills.

* each day you ride you will groom/feed/etc.

Additional Details:
This is UNPAID - it's more of a free riding lease structure. All feed and supplies are provided.

The horse you will be riding IS BROKE. He is out of shape and needs skills brushed back up but hes been ridden a lot and has fancy buttons.

I'd like to have someone riding for the month of October (minimum). There will likely be more opportunities to ride and work horses with us if you want.

The month will end with attending a horse show (Douglas County Fairgrounds). All entry fees will be paid if you choose to ride. If you don't want to show that's fine too, I can ride him at the show, that is just the goal to showcase his improvements.

Looking for a hard working person who loves horses and wants to learn. Applicants need to have their own transportation to and from the barn. No horse experience required.

Student will take FREE weekly lessons with me on one of our backburner horses who has been sitting for a few months and needs a good tune up for his best chance at a loving home. This student will also feed, groom, and help in caring for the horse durning the week.

I will provide all tack, supplies, and feed.

Please share this and anyone interested please pm me with questions or for an application! Hoping to have an applicant picked by October 1st.

Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway. - John Wayne

This little rider is only 5 years old. Kenzie may be small, but what she lacks in size she makes up for in sheer tenacity. She had her first tumble a couple lessons ago, but she hasn't let it stop her from doing what she loves.

Always continue to strive for growth.

There is never a point when, as a rider, we shouldn't be seaking more knowledgeable horsemen to learn from.

Recently I've started jumping lessons! I'm loving the change of pace. It's also extremely exciting to expand my knowledge. Since I enjoy pushing myself competitively. The plan for 2023 is to enter at least one local jumping competition. This will be in addition to re-engaging in our gymkhana goals that were moved to the back burner this year.

Most of all it's made me even more excited to teach. While I'm not taking on any English students in the near future - it's given me clarity that expanding to more students is the direction I want to go.

Here's a quick recap of the last few months:

March - Lease ended at our Melrose location.
April - House hunting marathon for us and secured a new lease location for the horses in Lookingglass.
May - Moving ourselves to our new home in Tricity area and cleaning up the Lookingglass property. Soo much work put in.
June - HAY season in full force. Worked on horses space and more clean up around the property.
July - Preparing an arena space and secured new insurance. Also, started getting back in routine with students who have their own horses.

August should be a big jump for us. The plan is to start opening back up for lessons on our horses. Keep watching this page for more updates!

Our Story

Solid Ground Equine is being resurrected as my personal equine journey. I hope to share stories of my horses, my lessons, my students, my project horses, and share information about horse organizations that are special to me.

A half decade ago I was working with a few rescues from my area. I loved the opportunity to be involved, and I formed friendships that will last me a lifetime. However, for the sake of my sanity and soul I had to step away from working in those circles. I hope in resurrecting this page I am able to take the lessons learned and continue to expand on them. I love working with horses and riders. I hope to continue to learn, and I hope the horses and riders around me can learn with me as well as from me.
