Another Autumnal day means another fungal foray πŸ‚πŸπŸ„πŸπŸ‚

The 2nd to last foray at was a beauty πŸ™Œ

We're already planning more dates for 2026, the 6 events this season sold out fast, so we'll announce as soon as next year's dates are up, incase you want to join us next season 😊

Another brilliant foray with πŸ„πŸ™Œ

We'd had an enthusiastic group of fellow fungiphiles and it was lovely to have join us in the forest πŸ™

We found quite a variety given the mild conditions, John is passionate about giving folk a memorable experience and the work that goes into choosing these locations prior to the walk is reflected in the quality of the finds table 🀟

Everyone went home with Hedgehogs and Winter Chanterelles to sample and a lucky few had some late season Parasols and Horns of Plenty πŸ₯³

Happy Hunting πŸ„πŸ«Ά

Fantastic Fungi at πŸ„πŸ™Œ

The gardens have all manner of mushrooms emerging at the moment! I lead a group of 15 around Sculptures and even with the impeccable maintenance of their amazing gardening team, there's alot of stunning wild spaces dotted inbetween the beautifully made up beds which were thriving.

We spotted Brittlegills and Milk caps, Birds nest fungi and Dogs Stink Horns, lots of Inkcaps and some very early Velvet Shanks! There were still some Fly Agarics amongst the Silver Birch and thanks to all the log piles around the gardens there were more Turkey Tails and Hairy Curtain Crust than you can shake a stick at.

We spotted 42 species within the 2 hours, I'm sure if we'd kept going we'd have spotted alot more. We finished off the morning with a hot drink β˜•οΈ and a Q&A around the ID table.

The 2nd event is already sold out, but fear not, we'll be holding more next year! Keep a look out for spring mushroom growing workshops followed by some yummy πŸ„πŸ„ too πŸ™

Lots of chat about Yellow Oysters this week, mostly thanks to who well and truly lit the blue touch paper, by removing Yellow Oysters from their inventory.

This has caused a chain reaction through the cultivation scene which has been beautiful to witness πŸ₯°

Now with many growers and suppliers in the UK and even the US binning their smelly Yellow Oyster strains, I thought I'd take the opportunity to make folk aware of some native alternatives that will still bring abit of colour and variation to your punnets, without the ecological backlash potentially associated with the Yellow Oyster.

At we made a decision from the beginning to not supply growers with Yellow Oysters, instead we encourage things like native Velvet Shanks, native Pioppino and some of the many other Oyster varieties found in the UK. One of our favourites is the Tarragon Oyster πŸ€—

We're pleased to have already supplied native cultures to the likes of .mushrooms .mushrooms and many more. We appreciate you πŸ„πŸ«Ά
