.fast forward 24hrs and now we've transferred a few small sterile biopsies, infront of the flowhood.

Hopefully within the coming days, we'll see some mycelial activity extending out, from these pieces of Laetiporus tissue πŸ„πŸ«Ά

Winecap grain spawn, almost fully colonised!

This bag of grain spawn is going to be put to sawdust shortly and will be left to colonise, further.

Later in the year, we plan to work with and to bring the idea of a mushroom garden, within their secret walled garden, to life!

We're picturing a seating area with plugged logs, woodchipped pathways inoculated with Osyters and Winecaps. Decaying wood, producing medicinal mushrooms such as turkey tails and gourmets such as Shiitake and Pioppino. May even be able to plug some logs with our local Coral Tooth strain and get some new colonise established within Dorset πŸ„πŸ«Ά

We may even be offering some of our cultures and spores, so please keep your peepers peeled for more info on this exciting little project

Thicc.

Quality cultures coming from the lab 🫑

This is another run of our native Pioppino, that we did a little giveaway on last month. Initial feedback from growers.."it's colonising super fast!" πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

We've also drawn up batches of Chicken of the Woods, Lionsmane*, Shimeji and Oyster mushroom.

Keep your peepers peeled for another giveaway, later this week πŸ„πŸ«Ά

*LM is a commercial strain, we're working on acquiring a wild strain 🀌

Shout out to at the Brighton Micro farm and for this little beauty!

A Summer Truffle landed on our doorstep, from sunny Sussex! Within no time it was dissected and several small sterile biopsies where transfered to agar.

Now the plates are sitting in the incubator, all we can do is wait...⏳️

We'll check up on them every 24-48hrs to see what we're incubating in there..hopefully it's native Tuber Aestivum! πŸ„πŸ«Ά

Coralloides grainspawn has been dining on bag of mastersmix for just over 24hrs and she's already got straight down to bizz nizz, consuming the nutrients available and moving it's way through the bag finding it's other mycelial mates and joining back together again 🀝

Until such time that the bag is fully colonised and the nutrients almost depleted, only then will the mushroom be ready to put up some fruiting bodies!

We're away for the weekend, so cultures and plates will be dispatched very early next week 🫑

Huge thanks to Heather Clarke, in Barnsley, for sending up this wild Oyster.

It caused quite a stir on Facebook, as there was some suggestions, given it's appearance, that it may be a wild fruiting Pluerotus citrinopileatus, in the UK!

Now I've received the fruiting body in the post, they don't feel citrinopileatus in the hand, they're quite robust, almost ostreatus like...time will tell ⏳️

There's a good possibility these are common Oysters, with a slightly paler complexion than normal.

They were in a bad state..but we've never been one to turn down a challenge! πŸ§«πŸ€“

Shout out to for spotting this whopper of a wild mushroom, in Dorset.

This is Cerioporous squamosus, or more commonly a Dryad's Saddle. We received the tip off and had to go take a look!

It was unfortunately too far gone for us to get a viable sample, there were more fungal gnats and maggots than mushroom flesh, on the inside! πŸ˜…

Fortunately they regularly fruit again in the same location, every year, until the nutrients are depleted. Given how large this Ash tree was, this mushroom should be appearing for many seasons to come. They have a wonderful fresh cucumber, some say almost water melon smell to them and when fried and a little crispy, they're 🀌

With genetics like this, we'll definitely be back here again, to catch a younger fruiting body πŸ„β€οΈ

A couple thousand of the finest spiral grove dowels.. about to spend the next few days soaking in some water, before being run through the pressure cooker and then inoculated with native Coral Tooth grain spawn.

It's all coming together πŸ™

If anybody has any native strains they would like us to expand out or if anybody finds a gourmet, medicinal or therapeutic mushroom they would like us to clone, slide into our DM's 🫑

Exciting News! πŸ₯³πŸ„

The trial bag of wild Coral Tooth Fungus, is starting to fruit!

Hericium coralloides are a delicate Coral like cousin of the Lionsmane, they're believed to share some similar compounds to Hericium erinaceus or Lionsmane. This wild culture was kindly cleaned up by the legends at and hopefully in time we can learn a little more about this native rare beast πŸͺΈπŸ„β€πŸŸ«

We have a few bags of grain for expanding out and some to put to dowels for plugging logs but we couldn't resist slinging some liquid culture into an all-in-one bag, courtesy of

Super impressed with how quick these bags
take off. πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈβ€βž‘οΈ

Light malt extract Agar or LME for short, is the gold standard of media, for fungal culturing.

I opted for the ocean blue rather than the colourless on this occasion and I must say I love how the blue colouring in the agar, makes the white mycelial strands really pop! πŸ’™

The sample of Pluerotus cornucopiae sent over by has cleaned up beautifully, it's super vigorous and ready to get onto some grain πŸ€“

250 holes..drilled, plugged and sealed πŸ–ŒπŸ„πŸ€ž

We sourced some native Oyster plugs from our friends over at and while the sun was shining, thought what better way to spend the morning, than inoculating some logs πŸ’ͺπŸͺš

There were also a few Shiitake thrown in for good measure and John took a few home to live in a shady corner in the garden πŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«οΈ

We've got a mushroom growing workshop in September in the New Forest. If you would like to know more about fungi and growing them, why not check out www.foragelondon.co.uk for more information on this event and many others.

Currently the Jurassic Coast is more famous for it's fossils than it's mushrooms..we're here to do something about that 🫑

Fossils of fungi are relatively rare, this is likely due to the extremely delicate nature of fungal fruiting bodies and their poor preservation properties. That said there are a few respresented in the rock records.

Some of these records date back at least 715 million years!

One must ask, are we really descendents of fungi? After all, it's thanks to them that there is any life on this Earth at all!

Being so close to the beach, we regularly pick up our fossiling πŸ”¨ to see what prehistoric treasures are lurking but Wouldn't it be cool to find fungi fossils as well preserved as some more common fossils that can be found on the Jurassic Coast πŸ₯°

If you follow you may have seen the first emerging Ergot fruits, posted the other week..we have an update!

Ergot fruiting bodies have grown better than expected!..and now for our next trick, transfer tissue of said fruiting body to a plate to see if we can get some mycelium to run 😬

Have you played around with Ergot, much? Keen to hear from anybody that has or anybody that would like to have a play around!

Wild Pioppino mushrooms, spotted at Hengistbury Head, Dorset and sent to me a little further along the Jurassic Coast πŸ™

These are already on agar and so now, we simply wait ⏳️

In time, you'll be able to fruit these wild-cloned fungi at home, drop us a message if you're interested in growing mushrooms at home or if you have a wild mushroom you wish to clone.
