Did you know? 🐠 this tiny armored fish, often called a cowfish or boxfish, has a bony, hexagon-patterned shell that acts like a natural suit of armor. It uses gentle fin movements to hover gracefully in aquariums; a slow but mesmerizing swimmer!

Here are a few more fun facts about it:

🧱 “boxfish” comes from their boxy, armored bodies made of bony plates forming a rigid shell.

🐮 they’re called cowfish because of the two horn-like projections on their heads (and sometimes smaller ones near the tail).

They use gentle fin movements to glide through the water; not fast swimmers, but very elegant.

When stressed, they can release a toxin called ostracitoxin, which can be harmful to other fish in the tank.
