Chico and the Man Hi, I'm Chico! I'm an 8 yr deaf Mini iBull Terrier (MBT) who found my home through Blue Ridge Bull Terrier Rescue.

Blue Ridge rescues and re-homes BT's and MBT's along the east coast, except Florida, and some of the eastern portion of the US.

My buddy had a Hematoma in recovery. We caught it early. He'll Fine .

UPDATE (08/16/24): We have a fantastic foster-to-adopt home lined up for Rocky. He will be heading there in a few weeks.

Meet Rocky

Rocky came into rescue in 2021 as a 7 month old. We placed him with a man who had trained dogs both during his time in the military and while he was a civilian. He was retired when he took Rocky in and told he us he had all the time in the world to spend with Rocky. He didn’t use social media but we did hear from him every so often and Rocky was reported to be doing very well. Unfortunately, a few days ago, Rocky’s original owner Valerie got in touch with us. She let us know that she had been contacted by the man’s partner a week and a half ago. He suffered a heart attack and passed away. The partner looked through a folder and found Valerie’s phone number and called her. She went and got Rocky and then let us know. We have since learned that although the gentleman was originally spending lots of time with Rocky, at some point he started working again, unbeknownst to us. We have been told that his workday was 12 hours and Rocky spent that time in his crate. Due to the extensive crate time, Rocky came back to his original owner with a limp in one of his front legs. The muscles in that leg have some atrophy but since being back with Valerie, he has already showed improvement as they have been taking him on multiple short walks a day to build the muscle back up. The vet also gave him a Librela injection to help and we can do that each month but we are hopeful that with proper exercise, his leg will improve to where he doesn’t need that. We are very disheartened about the entire situation as we did our due diligence including a home check when we sent Rocky to him. We are however grateful that Valerie and her family went and got him, took care of some needed vet care and is being gracious holding onto him while we work on finding him a new home.

Rocky currently weighs about 59 pounds. He was born on October 8th, 2020, making him a little under 4 years old. He has a decent amount of energy to burn off but not the same amount when he first came in 3 years ago. He is potty trained, crate trained and leash trained. He has the typical rough Bull Terrier style of play and really likes to play so he will pester another dog to try to get him/her to play. Thus, he would need to go to a home either with no other dogs or with a dog of similar energy and size, where the humans pay attention to body language and redirect him if he won’t adhere to the warning from the other dog when he/she has had enough. He needs structure and routine and somebody who doesn’t let him push boundaries otherwise some of his naughty behaviors like counter surfing will surface back up. He is generally a good boy who just wants to be loved. He is very loving and deserves to have an amazing home and family. No cats or smaller animals. Children 12 and older. If you live within 6 hours of Virginia Beach, VA and can offer Rocky the home he deserves, please either message our main inbox or Lisa Taubman Blount directly.

We are a little behind on posts but are trying to catch up. About three weeks ago, we learned about 3 Miniature Bull Terriers (MBT) from the same household who needed new homes. Their owner has had a lot of changes in her life situation and has to move into her mother’s already cramped home where dog’s are not allowed. One of the three MBT’s is named Chico. Chico is a deaf, 8 year old boy, with a lot of “enthusiasm”. When we posted him, a gentleman named Terrance reached out. Terrance had previously contacted us about other older bullies we were trying to find homes for but we always had something already lined up for them. This time though, we didn’t yet and after talking with Terrance quite a bit, we felt Chico would be a great fit. Terrance has had 4 Bull Terriers including one who was also named Chico. Sadly, he lost Chico as a result of a seizure disorder at age 7. Terrance had saved Chico’s name tag all this time and it seemed quite fitting that he could pay tribute to his beloved Chico by sharing the name tag with his new boy Chico. This past Saturday, with the help of some great volunteers, Chico made his way to Terrance. He has been doing really great and has brought some bully love back into Terrance’s home and heart.

Special thanks to Holly Darmofal-Gibbs and Robb Gibbs, parents to Blue Ridge Bull Terrier Club Rescue alumnus, Fast and Goose - Adopted, for driving an hour and a half to evaluate Chico and the other two mini’s, Leslie McKinley King for fitting in Terrance’s homecheck so quickly during a very busy time and for trying to help set up the transport, Kim King Bebb, president of the Bull Terrier Club of America, for doing leg 2 of the transport even though she was on vacation and visiting family, Kasi Goodman for taking the time to do leg 3 and Terrance for bringing Chico home.
