Attempts to pet or distract a service dog are violations of the ADA. Assistance animals are to be treated as wheelchairs or canes. We don’t ask to ride someone’s power chair at the restaurant, right? Medical alert dogs need to maintain focus on their handlers so they can alert promptly if needed. They’re cute, but PLEASE don’t stare, wave, speak to, reach toward, or in any way distract a service dog.

The 4th is upon us. Now is a good time to walk your backyard and check for any holes in the fence and latch issues on gates. Many dogs panic and find a way out of the yard in an attempt to escape the sound of fireworks.
Dogs are better off indoors, in a crate, with a marrow bone or other yummy long-lasting chewy, with the music or tv turned up high. Difusing lavender oils and/or applying peppermint oil to the pads of their feet can help as well. Thunder shirts will do well for a lot of dogs as well.
Remember your dog may panic when let out to potty so stay with them, or keep them on leash.
Stay safe!

Tenn. State Trooper Pumpy Tudors was a star punter for Marion County High and UTC, and was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1992. These days, he's a highway hero. I love this story, from Kaye Fiorello!
“I was driving up 75, and saw a trooper. A few minutes later, I see a dog in the ditch by one of the signs for exit 20. She looked bad. I was in left lane, heading to an appointment, and was torn. I decided I would go back southbound.
I turned in and the trooper was still there! Yay! He rolled down his window and said "yep! I'm here" to which i told him about the dog. He asked where the dog was and was on his way! I followed and we found her. Still there, panting like she was fixing to die.
That trooper dumped his jug of koolaid out and fashioned a water bowl for her. Then poured a couple bottles of water. The dog was scared of him. She sniffed the water, then realized this kindness was for her! She drank that water down in minutes! And the trooper went and got her some more, plus a Little Debbie. She watched him warily the whole time. She sniffed his hand, but was still wary.
Next thing, he goes to his vehicle and gets a chair and an umbrella. Telling me he will stay here until she trusts him, so he can get her to a shelter, or take her home. .
I believe his being there at the right time, was one of those little messages reminding us of the good in our world.
Meet Trooper Tudors, of the TN State Highway Patrol. One of the good guys for sure

Come home to a happy dog!
ABOUT ME:
I grew up on a farm and have loved pets for as long as I can remember, including dogs, cats, horses, pigs, cattle, etc. We currently have 2 rescue dogs and 2 children, ages 6 & 8. I am comfortable caring for dogs of any size or age, and have experience following strict diets, administering medications, caring for aging pets etc. If you feel you have a "difficult" dog, please do not hesitate to contact me! I have years of experience with a variety of dogs with issues including fearfulness, aggression, dominance, submissiveness, and overall naughtiness! No need to feel embarrassed or worried, dogs are like humans; we’re all a work in progress and sometimes it takes a different perspective for them to be understood.
AVAILABILITY:
I am available most weekdays aside from school drop-off and pick-up and am often home on weekends. Conveniently located in Ken Caryl Valley, I love taking dogs out to explore nearby parks and trails. There are so many things to sniff!
INTRODUCTIONS:
Before caring for your pet(s), we will have a “Meet and Greet” to get comfortable with one another. Depending on the care arrangements, we will meet at a park or at home. I will observe your dog and we can discuss any observations including nervousness, aggression, energy level, social needs. I will explain my thoughts and what may help your dog feel more at ease while in my care to ensure a successful time together.
