Canicross is cross-country running with your dog and is a fantastic way to keep fit, channel your dog's energy and work together as a team. Learn how to use the right equipment, teach your dog the commands and pick up techniques to run safely with your expert guide and DogFit certified trainer - Laura from Actidog. Laura has over 8 years' experience in canicross, having originally started running

with her first dog, Loki, to exercise together and channel his energy into a 'job' he could focus on. No problem - start slowly and build up over time, or why not try cani-hiking with all the same kit but at a walking pace? Contact Laura to see what might work best for you.

Well, we finally had a couple of days where it wasn't torrential rain and the sun came out, perfect for canicross taster sessions in Wakefield last weekend!

Here's Ruth and Ivy giving it a whirl - just look at that laser focus that Ivy has already! (Not pictured: The guys playing tennis and zillions of tennis balls Ivy was interested in 😉)

***Prospective canicross dog looking for a new home (Posted on behalf of a local resident)***

Hello everyone. We are based in Huddersfield West Yorkshire.
It is with a heavy heart that we are having to rehome our beautiful Australian Kelpie Bruce, he's 2.5 years of age, we've had him since 8 weeks so he means the world to us.

Due to my ill health, I am unable to give him the exercise he needs. He his a very strong puller on his harness, he has his mind on where he wants to go. He likes nothing more than to run after his ball in an enclosed area. He does know certain commands i.e Sit, Stay, Leave, Come.

Hes very very loving, loves his kisses and cuddles, he does not react to other dogs, he's good with people but will jump up to greet. He currently lives with a female dog, he can get over excited with her but she puts him in his place. He's very vocal being a Kelpie and can be stubborn. Because of lack of exercise he makes his own fun and is over weight. He's fully house trained.

We sincerely believe that canicross would suit him within the right setting.

Bruce needs a job, he needs a focus. I am epileptic so I can't walk him alone, unfortunately, my partner struggles to hold him on lead. He is being neutered on Tuesday 13th Feb so will be ready to rehome at the end of the month. Hes fully vaccinated, chipped and up to date with flea and worm treatment. If you feel you can offer him what he needs please message me.

Home checks apply. I have tried to be honest, and any bad points are outwade with his love and cuddles. Thank you

Please contact Edd Sykes-James for more details.

January has been a bit tough here at Actidog. Best girl Nanook was diagnosed with lymphoma back at the start of the year. She has been an absolute trooper through chemo so far (and shaved patches all over to make her look a real frankendog). Now vets have found an arrhythmia on her heart (hence the stylish ecg jacket shown in this pic). She’s pretty fed up at the moment so we hope all clients old and new will send her a virtual cuddle x 🥹

It's been a bit quiet here at Actidog HQ the past couple of weeks as we've been dealing with some bad news. Beautiful Nanook has sadly been diagnosed with cancer and as you can imagine, all my focus has been on getting her treatment plan sorted. I will still be running monthly tasters on the first and third Saturdays of each month, so please do get in touch for more information or to book your place. And if you have a few positive vibes to send to me and my girl, we'd be very grateful. 🐾❤️

All the best for a wonderful new year, we hope to see you out on the trails in 2024!

Introducing canicross to dog-lovers in West Yorkshire

Canicross is a fantastic sport that offers dogs and owners the change to exercise together and bond as a real team.

If your dog has bags of energy and needs a positive focus to channel it, if you want to get fit but struggle to get to the gym, or if you’d just like to try something new with your dog, then you might like to try canicross!

Laura will be your guide - she has many years’ experience of canicross with her own dogs, including competing at national events, and is dedicated to her own continuous development so that she can provide high-quality guidance to her canicross clients.

Having spent over 10 years as a corporate training professional, she also has plenty of experience in teaching people new skills.
