At the end of November, through the coordinated efforts of our WAM team, CAReS and Heaven Can Wait rescues, we brought in 2 fluffy little pups. Guster and Shawn came to us terrified and as close to feral as we have ever seen, especially in such young puppies! Resilient and loving, these two characters have wormed their way into our hearts and are now ready to meet their forever families.

Meet Guster, a fluffy, energetic, 5-month-old pup with tons of personality and a need for speed! This little character loves playing, exploring everything and anything, small mouth size toys (especially his mini lambchops), and will do anything for treats. Gus is very busy, busy to the point of annoying his brother Shawn …

Guster has come a long way from the terrified little boy that we first met; however, there is still much that he needs to learn and trust to be built.
The right home for this precious boy will have:
• a confident older dog who likes to play
• humans with patience and a sense of humour as he is a goof
• lots of toys, he prefers spreading them everywhere, all at once
• the energy and time to consistently work with him to learn new things like leashes!
• no young children

The other half of this entertaining duo is Shawn; Guster’s sweet, cold-weather-loving, larger brother who likes to play AND nap, although Gus constantly tries to convince him that naps are unacceptable. This gentle boy is timid, but smart, eager to please, and quick to learn, especially when encouraged with treats!

Shawn has also come a long way from the scared little boy who moved into our home. He is the first to try new things and explore new areas, but he too needs time and love to grow into the confident dog we know he will be.
The right home for this precious boy will have:
• a confident older dog who likes to play and cuddle
• humans with lots of patience, love and energy to work with him to learn new things
• bubbles, squeaky toys, and the freedom to play with one at a time; he loves his toy box when its full and not spread all over by his brother!
• no young children

We think it’s time for another re-introduction! 😁

Many of you have probably seen our previous posts about our GSD X girl!

Phoebe came into our care back at the beginning of July 2024. She was found as a stray puppy in central Saskatchewan. When we found out this beautiful pup needed rescue placement, we worked alongside another rescue to get her to Calgary ASAP!

Phoebe is currently 10 months old, she is fully vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped.

A few things to know about our girl 💕

She is a very active teenager 😆 and will require a home who can keep up with her and who will continue with her training! She is very smart girl.

Phoebe is vocal, barks at any emotion she feels in the moment; happy, frustrated, excited, etc!

She does well with other dogs with proper introduction! Unfortunately, Phoebe isn’t the best with cats as she loves to chase them.

She is currently in a Calgary foster home with 2 other dogs!

Introducing our pretty Lady 💕 We welcomed her into our rescue just before Christmas!

Back in December 2024, we were contacted by another rescue, looking for help! Unfortunately they are closing their doors. Luckily, Lady’s foster home wanted to continue fostering her, and we were able to transfer her into WAM’s care. We are so grateful to Lady’s foster home for their commitment to her health, behavior, and emotional well-being. ♥️

Her backstory:

Lady was found abandoned as a young puppy at the beginning of October 2024, and was picked up by animal control in a northern community.

Fast forward to today … Lady is approximately 7 months old. She is up to date with vaccines, spayed and microchipped! & We don’t think she will weigh over 55lbs. She is being fostered in Lethbridge 🙂

Lady is housetrained and crate trained. She is super playful, enjoys cuddle sessions and she is learning her manners! Her foster home has 2 other dogs, and she loves playing with them! Lady has not been cat tested, and she hasn’t been around young children.

She is looking for her forever home! She will need someone who will continue with her training as she enters her teenage era.

We want to wish our boy Fez a very Happy 1st Birthday! 🎂🥳🎉🎂

The backstory:

On January 30th, 2024, we were notified of a young momma dog who just gave birth to a litter of puppies the previous day in the Southern Alberta area.

And on January 31st, 2024, we were able to find a whelping home to foster the dog family 🥹 and we welcomed them to our rescue that same day!

Let’s talk about Fez now 😁

Fez was adopted in August of 2024, but at no fault of his own, he was surrendered back to the rescue in December, and returned to his original foster home!

Fez is up to date on vaccines, neutered and microchipped! Currently in a Calgary foster home.

Fez’s foster mom wanted to share some cool facts about her foster boy!

“Fez loves all the toys! He will throw his ball around and run after it 😅! He's a great running partner and will run right beside me. He's a bit of a goofy guy. Just very playful but hasn't totally figured out his body. He’s the only dog out of the three that will follow me down to the laundry room and wait for me outside of it and insist he gets belly rubs - it’s become his thing”.
I think we all know what his birthday wish would be … to find his forever hoomans ♥️

Happy Caturday 😻

We reintroduced a couple of our “breakfast litter” kittens this past week! The last kitten from that litter is Pancake 🐈‍⬛

Her story:

Pancake and her siblings (the breakfast litter) came into our care at the beginning of September 2024. They were rescued from the Lethbridge County area. Pancake just turned 6 months old, she is up to date on vaccines, spayed and microchipped!

Her foster mom says that Pancake loves bum scratches and when they’re extra good she sticks her little tongue out, also loves wrestling her siblings, chasing ball toys and being held for more scratches! 🥹♥️

Pancake is litter trained, and loves kibble time! And won’t say no to wet food!

Pancake and her siblings are currently in a foster home in Calgary with other cats and a dog! She is patiently waiting for her forever family, maybe with a sibling too? (Muffin and/or Toast?)

We are continuing with re-introductions of current animals in our care!

This past Monday, we reintroduced Muffin, our tabby girl. This is her brother Toast aka Mr. Grumpy face, but we swear, he’s not a grumpy boy! 😹

Little biography:

Toast and his siblings (the breakfast litter) came into our care at the beginning of September 2024. They were rescued from the Lethbridge County area. Toast just turned 6 months old, he is up to date on vaccines, neutered and microchipped!

His foster home says that he follows them around the house, absolutely has to be in the same room with the hoomans at all times and he loves getting held like a baby 🥹 He is litter trained, and won’t say no to breakfast, lunch and supper time haha! He loves his kibble and wet food!

Toast and his siblings are currently in a foster home in Calgary with other cats and a dog! He would love a home to call his own, even better with a sibling (Pancake and/or Muffin)!

We are reintroducing Muffin to everyone, our beautiful tabby girl! 💕

Muffin and her siblings (the breakfast litter) came into our care at the beginning of September 2024. They were rescued from the Lethbridge County area. Muffin just turned 6 months old, she is up to date on vaccines, spayed and microchipped!

She is a beautiful tabby kitten 😻 Muffin is a social girl, loves to play with her siblings, and loves a good cuddle time 🥹! Her favourite toys are anything with a string and balls to chase around! She is litter trained, and loves her kibble and wet food …. And treats!!

Muffin is currently in a foster home in Calgary with other cats and a dog! She is looking for her forever home! She would love love to be adopted with one of her siblings (Pancake and/or Toast)!

Our friends at Fetch and Play Lethbridge , along side Happy Puppy Training are hosting a free reactive dog seminar on Saturday January 25th! This is a great opportunity for dog owners to educate themselves and ask questions! Hoomans only for this seminar, please don’t bring your doggies 🐾

Our goal is to make Fetch and Play a learning hub, where different ideas (not just mine) are presented.

Alhough I may not philosophically or intellectually agree with everything everyone does, this does not mean that the information should be instantly discounted (unless those methods involve cruelty). Dog training and behavioural work should be fluid and none of us should be so heavily engrained in our beliefs that we are not open to new or other ideas.

This being said, Fetch and Play will be hosting a Reactive Dog seminar January 25. We also have plans to host a Reactive Dog weekend workshop later this fall or early summer with guest Dylan Rowse.

In addition we will be launching a free monthly seminar to discuss all things dogs, including nutrition and common issues related to health. This seminar runs from 7 - 9 the first Tuesday of every month and will be hosted by Burton and Val leveraging their almost 45 years of combined experience.

If you have other seminar ideas feel free to reach out and share your ideas.

Rylie was rescued at the beginning of December 2024 and we just love this smart boy! He loves hanging with his foster brother Dexter (the frenchie) and he is learning to be respectful around his kitty friends too! Rylie is housetrained, crate trained and learns very quickly! He is currently in a foster home in Lethbridge.

Salem was found abandoned as a very young kitten back in October. He is approximately 5-6 months old now!

From his foster mom:

“Salem is a cuddly loving boy that strives for love and attention. He is a vocal boy that will always make sure you know he’s around! He lives with 6 other animals (cats & dogs) so he’s well socialized. His favourite places to cuddle up for a good nap are your chest or beside his foster brother Axel the Rottweiler. When he isn’t sleeping he enjoys spending his time with his kitty siblings. Whether it be running around the house playing or sitting and watching their every move. Salem is litter trained, and knows how to use his scratch posts. For an added bonus he is used to being brushed and getting regular nail trims!“
