What does your horses training program look like here at MMEC? Don't get me wrong, the riding/training is first and foremost, but they also get a ton of body work, grooming and elbow grease, and most importantly love. Our horses work hard for us and the demands are high, it's our job to keep it attainable and positive. We are creating a working relationship with an animal, not building a robot.
Here's a little clip of what happens daily behind the barn doors. We couldn't get everyone in this video, but you get the idea! 💕 Huge shout out to Katrina and Amanda, who spend the majority of their days making sure each of our horses meets MMEC standards! (Stephs crazy high standards! 😘) It takes a team, and I'm so grateful for ours!

This two year old filly is crazy smart! She's just at the beginning of her under saddle career, but if she keeps this amazing work ethic and mindset, she will be a bombshell. Thank you to Nicole and Ava Fried for trusting me with Poppy, she's a special one! 💕

This video is deceiving, the gelding she is climbing up on is 16.2 HH and yes the mismatched leg wraps were intentional, because it's too hard to pick one single set of favorite polos 🤣

We get a lot of "special" cases here at MMEC, Minnie is no different. The sensitive, misunderstood horses will always be a personal favorite of mine. 🥰
A relationship built on manipulation and fear will surely fail when something more stressful comes along. But a relationship built with trust and softness will produce a partnership that lasts a lifetime. Creating a horse that completes the tasks being asked because they WANT to not because they HAVE to, is truly the key to success. With this trust comes courage and with courage comes confidence. A well educated confident horse will forever be the most valuable horse of them all.
In Minnie's case, she has been in survival mode for the majority of her two years of life. While she is still exploring what it means to trust a human, her body language speaks volumes. Thank you Minnie for showing us all what it means to slow down, stay soft and to build a strong and healthy relationship with those around us.
So many people pride themselves on all of the things they are "doing" everyday. So much so that being "busy" walks a fine line between being productive and being negatively distracted/ungrounded.
Minnie would like to pass along a gentle Saturday reminder to breathe and practise softness, not only with your horses but in all aspects of life. 💕 Enjoy the weekend everyone!

A fun and successful day had by all! Seeing the growth in these girls is so rewarding, knowing we all started as kids who simply just love horses. Having zero expectations on placings, not pressuring ourselves to be perfect and maybe not even showing at all. Remember that we all have our share of " firsts"... first horse show, first pattern, first wrong lead, first ribbons and first horses. But regardless of how you started, staying grateful for where you are now is so important. My girls get out there with a positive, horse loving, goal driven attitude, and it shows! One day these ribbons at our local fair will be seen as a stepping stone to your first world title. 😘
