People like to tell breeders- "ADOPT DON'T SHOP". I think adoption is fantastic and have had a number of rescued dogs and cats over the years. However, rescues are not overrun by puppies from responsible breeders. I know all of my puppy families and text, many weekly even years later when their puppy is no longer a puppy. Prospective adopters need to do their research!!!!
All puppies are cute. All puppies at a pet store are cute. All puppies at said pet store have been sourced from puppy mills. Ohio is tied for second place for having the most puppy mills in the country. We need to do better! Adopting from rescues isn't going to solve the problem. If you are on my page you would probably agree that it is never good to adopt from a pet store.
As a potential adopter, you need to ask questions of the breeder. If they do not answer a straightforward question or change the subject, run. If they do not let you see where the puppy was raised or the parents (or mom), move on! A lot of people want to breed dogs because it's cute to have puppies. It is cute. It is also a job that I take very seriously and one that is 24/7. Any good breeder will have no problem discussing health tests, vetting, any adverse health events that may have affected their line, etc.
Anyone who has gotten a puppy from me knows that I ask questions. I'm not looking to sell a puppy to the first person who asks. I have turned down many people who I don't think are a good fit and I will tell them that.
As an adopter, you need to be very inquisitive and if you aren't 100% comfortable with the breeder, their practices, etc., move on to the next.
You want a pup that is going to be around for hopefully, 15 years-that's a huge commitment. You don't want their lives to be plagued with one illness after another or a genetic disease; which is a gamble if you aren't vetting your breeder.
Do your homework. Ask all the questions. If you feel something is off, trust your gut.

The babies are 5 weeks old! All have new homes awaiting them in a few weeks.
A little birdie told me that Aunt Sassy, Coco's sister, should be having puppies the week after these pups go home. It's a puppy summer! I have a waitlist going so PM me if you want your name put on the list.
