Dearest Maisie had a holiday with us. Her talent is carrying shoes, which ensures we’re all kept busy trying to find a pair when we need to go out. Such a lovely spaniel, a good girl and so full of joy.

Last week Coco had a special trip into town for a Pupachino. She isn’t very brave in new situations but very much enjoyed meeting people and having treats. Lovely to see her realising that it was actually a nice thing to do.
Sometimes our dogs don’t get a chance to do this sort of socialising. We take them for lovely countryside walks, get them used to cows, tractors and other dogs but they don’t do much “cafe work”. So that’s something I’ll add to my list of services offered. And we humans enjoyed it too!

Mollie and Reggie cooling their tummies in front of the fan. Over the weekend we started the day with a walk IN the river, then a bit of garden playing until it got too hot. During the day they sat in the summerhouse, wandered around the garden and snoozed in the cool house. An evening stroll was pleasant too.

I’m often asked if I know of others who do the same as I do (boarding and daycare). Here is East Devon District Council’s lists of licenced, qualified and insured dog daycare and home boarding providers.

There are very strict government rules that we have to adhere to and we do get spot checks.

On a hot day like this my main aim is to keep the dogs here safe and happy. We have plenty to keep us amused in the house and garden and if it’s cool enough we’ll go for short walks in the shade. I’ll always keep a careful eye out for signs of over heating and when the dogs are in the garden they will always be supervised.

Here is my enrichment programme:
- Dog grooming and massage
- Scavenger biscuit hunt
- Water games and splashing
- Training and rewards (“sit”)
- Splashing (=watering the garden!)

I do keep them indoors during the hottest times, with the cool floors and the fan.

Reggie and his guests.
It is remarkable how happy he is to have other dogs stay in his home. And very tolerant of other dogs nicking his bed and toys. A very special chap!
Susie was great friends with Megan and they had all sorts of dreadful adventures together. (Picnics, deer, baby bunnies) Quieter now in her old age and very taken with Reggie’s soggy octopus.
Teddy was his little shadow and kept an eye on Reggie in case he had exciting plans.

Staying cool and healthy today. Not as much exercise as usual but no one was bored or lonely. We had nice walks before it got hot, going straight from the house and under the shady trees through the fields.
