Want your business to be the top-listed Pet Store/pet Service?
I began teaching my English Springer Spaniel, Missy AKC Scent Work late in 2017. Missy is a very busy little springer, competing in obedience, rally, barn hunt, dock diving in addition to scent work. I had recently discontinued training with a harsh obedience trainer and I needed some activities to build Missy’s confidence. She was very insecure after the previous trainer’s methods. The main sport we compete in is AKC obedience and Missy was really lacking in the show ring. I read somewhere that scent work was a great way to build a dog’s confidence, so I decided to teach her. Missy picked up on scent work very quickly. She was a natural at it and she loved doing it! She was ready to compete within a month of learning and that she did! During her first trial she came home with 3 placements, 6 qualifying scores and a new title all in one weekend! I decided it was time to get serious about scent work and began looking for a training kit. After hours of searching the internet I still couldn’t find an adequate kit. I began collecting used Altoid tins and glass jars for scent swabs. It wasn’t economical but it was functional. As I began to get more involved in the sport I started to think of ways to make my kit more user friendly. I spent many hours shopping and searching the internet to find just the right pieces, until I had something I was happy with. A few of my friends saw the kit I had put together and I offered to make them one as well. They praised me on how nice my kit was and how they wished they had a kit like that when they started. I remembered how confused I was when I started scent work and wanted to help people who were interested in the sport. I once again altered my kit, adding a few items as well as a training guide and decided to sell a few. It took off and I quickly had a little business. I recruited my husband to help me and we started Follow Your Nose Scent Work Essentials together. When we are not hanging out at a dog show, you will usually find us in our living room putting our kits together. We take pride in our kits and hope you will enjoy using it as much as we enjoy making them!
