🐾📚Woof woof friends! It’s back-to-school season, and you know what that means—time for the humans to hit the books while I hit the snooze button on my naps. While I know this can be a ruff time, I hope you all have a pawsitively amazing school year!
Love,

It’s with mixed emotions that we say goodbye to Dr. Bell. Not only will we miss her creative ideas but her constant postitive attitude too. We are so happy for her and her family as they embark on a new and exciting adventure but we all will miss the (cool)mom of our clinic😉
Thank you for everything and know that your YAH family will always be cheering you on, we love you!🩵🐾

Dear Recycled Rotts Family and Friends:

For over 30 years Recycled Rotts has been there for the Chicago area Rottweilers in need. Our priority has always been, and always will be, rotties in animal controls and shelters that were brought in as strays. We were one of the first rescues allowed to pull from the City of Chicago in 1999, when prior to that rotties were euthanized and we hope to continue in the future.

Over the years we have overcome many obstacles, but the last few years have presented us with many challenges. We have tried, but the constant intake of rotties, fewer qualified applications, decrease in donations plus increased medical expenses have led us to face the decision as to whether we will be able to stay open or have to permanently shut our doors.

We have tried to keep our placement fees low. Even then, the current fee of $375 is met with questions. This fee barely covers the basic medical expenses. (Basic medical includes: basic vaccinations including rabies, heartworm and f***l testing and spay/neuters.) Many shelters now provide these basic expenses prior to transport, others do not. Even with the basics covered we are still faced with other expenses prior to placement. These extra expenses always exceed the placement fee.

We do not want to permanently close our doors. Before we make that decision we have to reduce our current invoice for medical expenses and the number of dogs currently in the rescue. At this time, we have five dogs waiting to come in, one is a return. They will be entering the rescue over the next couple of weeks. Other than those waiting, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, we are temporarily closing our doors to all other intake. This includes shelter dogs and owner surrenders. This is a decision we do not make lightly and we know is going to affect many dogs in the Chicago shelters that we would normally help. Please Note: This does not apply to families who have adopted from Recycled Rotts and have to return.

While we are in this holding pattern, we are discussing how we can continue. We are aware of some of the causes as to why this is happening and have a few ideas of how to rectify them. These will be shared within the coming weeks.

If anyone would like to discuss this further, help us reduce these once again high medical expenses (see links for donations below), live in the far west suburbs of Chicago and would like to foster a dog, or have ideas for fundraising, please give Patti a call at 630-551-0729. You might have to leave a message, but she will return your call. You can also contact us through facebook private messaging. Those messages are monitored and someone will respond as quickly as possible.

Thank you to everyone for your support over the last 30+ years. All of us, especially the over 4,000 rotties that we have saved from shelters and then went on to live happy lives in loving homes, appreciate your being there for us. We pray that we will be able to overcome this current bump and continue forward as one of the oldest Rottweiler Rescues in the country.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our clinic cat, Silly.
For years, Silly had been a source of joy, comfort and laughter to our team. She loved sitting on your papers while you were writing or in front of your computer screen while you were typing. She believed that she could take on 100 plus pound dogs, she wasn’t afraid of much. When she wasn’t helping herself to the lunch that you walked away from, she could be found resting in the most odd locations throughout the clinic. Silly’s mischievous ways and meows when you first got to work in the morning, will be missed greatly by all of our staff🩵

Our team encountered an unexpected situation today when a suspected gas leak in our building resulted in an evacuation. We are relieved that it was a false alarm and are committed to maintaining the safety of our clients, both human and animal, as we resume business normally.
