At Trevor Cooper's Doglaw Seminars the law on collar & tag usually creates a bit of a stir! And now we see that it has also become a bit of a news item as well, so it's great that the dog owning public is discovering that this identification requirement is still the law. It is from the Control of Dogs Order 1992 which requires that when a dog is on a highway or a place of public resort it shall wear a collar with the name and address of the owner inscribed on it or on a plate or badge attached to it.

Prosecutions are very rare, but we take the view that it is about the benefit of compliance rather than the detriment of enforcement. Complying means that you are increasing your chances of a lost dog being reunited with its owner.

We take the view that a harness is a form of a collar. There has never been a prosecution that we are aware of when someone has used a harness rather than a collar.

There are a few exemptions which apply (which include when a dog is being used for agility or for the driving/tending of cattle or sheep). Even if you have a long address or a long name there really is no excuse for failing to comply. We appreciate that some dog owners are reluctant to have their address displayed - all we can suggest is that if you don't like this particular requirement you should speak to your MP as it is Parliament that has the power to amend the law.

These will be on Monday and Friday evenings near Templepatrick.

We are offering 6 week puppy courses and 6 week Bronze courses, payable up front, to reduce personal contact.

We have made the decision to cancel our 2 day Agility show at the end of July 2021.

Crufts July 2021 cancelled
26/03/2021

Crufts July 2021 cancelled

Keep up to date on all of the announcements for Crufts 2021.

26/02/2021

Crufts 2021

Following the announcement that Crufts 2021 will take place next year on the new dates of 15 – 18 July 2021 at the NEC Birmingham, The Kennel Club has now published some further details on some of the competitions and qualifications for next year’s show.

The Kennel Club will be reviewing many aspects of the show in line with government advice and the evolving health situation, however, some decisions have needed to be made in advance to ensure it would be able to go ahead in a Covid secure way. The qualification is open to those who qualified for Crufts 2020 apart from the 3rd placing in class. It should be also noted no puppy classes will be scheduled at the 2021 show due to lack of opportunity to qualify.

Further to a review of the floor space and the number of exhibitors and attendees, the decision has had to be made that entries will be capped for all breeds. Entries are due to open at the end of March and will be online only. Entries will close on 31 May 2021 or when numbers have been reached.

It is with great disappointment that The Kennel Club must also announce that, due to the lack of opportunity to qualify, the following competitions will not be taking place at Crufts 2021: Breeders’ competition, International Junior Handling competition, Junior Warrant competition, Vulnerable Breeds competition and Pets as Therapy Stakes. Further information on other competitions and canine disciplines will be announced as soon as possible.

For further information on qualifications, and to keep up to date on how the Crufts 2021 show will look, please keep an eye on our website.

Please note that it is hoped that Crufts 2022 will take place on 10 – 13 March. Any shows that take place between 25 January and 31 May 2021 will qualify for Crufts 2022. Shows held after the closing date of entries for the 2021 show will also qualify for Crufts 2022, further details of which will be advised in due course.

The Kennel Club can confirm that the Inter Regional Rally Competition is expected to go ahead on Thursday 15 July at Crufts 2021 and the Inter Regional Obedience Competition is expected to go ahead on Friday 16 July.

Unfortunately, as there has been no qualifiers the Obedience Championship and the Good Citizen Dog Scheme Special Pre-Beginner Obedience Stakes final will not take place at Crufts 2021.

Similarly as there has only been one qualifier the Obreedience finals will also not take place at Crufts 2021. Those teams who competed at an obreedience heat in 2020, and gained points will have their points carried over for Crufts 2022.
