A busy day for LASER volunteers. We started early with a drill at the Yavapai County Large Animal Shelter and ended the day with our Quick Response Team returning to the shelter to prepare for possible activation due to the Quail Run Fire that put Cordes Lakes on SET status. That SET has been lifted, but due to many fires in the area, our shelter will be ready when needed.

We are pleased to announce that LASER has received a grant for $5,500 from the Pat and Gerhard Kroenaur Animal Friends Fund, a component fund of the Arizona Community Foundation of Yavapai County. Partnerships are vital for furthering our mission, sharing information and learning from others. This award will help cover costs for outreach and collaboration, including organization memberships, event fees, conferences, media costs and outreach materials. Saturday, June 15th, LASER held another drill for volunteers. It was a HOT one, but it went very smoothly!!! As they say - Practice makes Perfect!!!

6/15/2024: ADOT has opened all lanes for NB traffic.

ADOT opened the left lane for NB I-17 at 8:25 PM near Bloody Basin Road.

As of 11 PM: There are no updates on the SET status at this time. It will remain in effect until the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO), in coordination with fire leadership, determines that the fire is no longer threatening the community and it is safe to lift the pre-evacuation status. Residents should remain prepared until that time.

This week, LASER participated in the National VOAD Conference in Phoenix. This annual gathering of Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster attracts over 850 compassionate people, representing faith-based groups, nonprofits, agencies, and foundations from all over the country for networking and workshop opportunities. It is humbling to be a small part of this powerful force of goodwill!
