We opened our doors publicly in 2005. Since then we have rescued a wide range of animals in need. The animals have been in various conditions. We have successfully rehabbed and re-homed 100's of large animals over the years. In the past few years, we have taken on a lot of large birds. We have also taken in many reptiles. We have added a lot of cages and tanks to our storage supplies. We will assi

st any animal that the shelter can not. We have equipment, cages, enclosures and food for everything from horses to lizards. We have a volunteer that has great knowledge of bird care, a volunteer that has a great knowledge of reptile care, a volunteer that has great knowledge of small animal care, volunteers that have special training and knowledge of large animal care, volunteers that have special training and knowledge of exotic animal care....and together....they are a great group for knowledge of animal behavior, care, and rehab.

We have been overwhelmed lately. We have taken in several pigs, chickens, ducks, guinea pigs and snakes. Getting some of them healthy has taken us from other tasks that we needed to get done. Hopefully we can catch up on things this week! Our feed bill is getting outrageous and between that, putting up new fencing and fixing barns we are broke...but it is all for the animals, so we wouldn't change a thing. Thanks for your continued support!!

I wanted to update everyone on Mr. Punkie. He is something special. I call for anyone in the household and Punkie answers for them. He tells me off daily. He won't let me have a conversation without interrupting it. He keeps me laughing most of the day.

The bad news, Elizabeth is not fond of him. Actually, she seems jealous. I was hoping she would have warmed up to him by now so they could be friends. I may have to bring another one of my permanent resident birds in and see if they can befriend him.

He still has some breathing issues, but they appear to be improving. He is eating fruits and veggies much better now. He stopped throwing them out of his bowl. I might make some homemade pasta this weekend and see if he likes that. The other birds love pasta. It isn't very good for them but it gets them to eat more of the good food when you mix it in.

Please excuse the pictures. Punkie was just playing in his water dish. This is his new game. He plays in it and then dumps it. Then he usually yells at me for it....lol....

Update on our new friend. He is very talkative. He has some liver enlargement which is causing a little difficulty breathing. We are hoping the proper diet and more toys to keep him busy will help. He is starting to accept the better food and not just throwing it. He is letting us hold him now so he seems a little happier.

Our new friend. He is scared of all of his life changes but has been adapting well. We are working to find toys he likes. He has not accepted any treats yet. He actually takes them from you and throws them across the cage very violently. When introduced to Elizabeth (an eclectus) he turned his head and wouldn’t look at her. They are separated but can see each other. We are hoping he will come around and talk to her.

Please help if you can. We work with this shelter and they can always use donations. We handed off some cleaning supplies today and will go pick up some more for them. Every little bit helps.

We hope everyone is staying warm!! We lost power at 4:30am, but got it back again at about 7:30. Thank you linesmen!!! Awesome job!!

We checked on the animals this morning and found that the roof to the pig barn was damaged. It is currently -2 out and the wind chill of -24....fixing the roof isn't going to be fun, but we can't let the pigs go with no roof. If you need us, message us and be patient. We are assembling a crew and heading out to fix a roof!

We want to thank everyone that has donated to us this year. We have had an extremely busy year and the donations have helped us greatly. We hope you all had a great year and have an even better one in 2023. We would also like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

We have been working this week to prepare for the big winter storm. Cupid was moved from his smaller resting pen for healing and into the barn with the others. We made him an area there so that they can not bully him. The goats are tucked into their shelters with extra bedding and supplies. We put up plastic over windows and doors. We hope that everyone stays safe. We have two ducks that have yet to go to their new homes. They are coming inside to ride out the extreme cold. The foxes we just took in have plastic around their kennel to give them a wind break. I think we have everything done, but I am sure we missed something and will need to scramble later to get it done. We have kennels set up in case we need to bring someone in. I (Julie) have space set aside in my basement for the animals in case. Even cupid is welcome in my home if this gets bad. I am the type of person that would fill my home with animals before letting one of them be cold during this storm. Years ago, during a tornado warning, I told my children to protect the cow and pig we had. I was thinking putting them in the barn down at the bottom of the hill where it was safer. When I got home, the cow and pig were in my basement. I am not sure how the kids got them there, but they were safe. This is what our family does to protect our pets. They are part of our family and deserve to be treated as such.

We hope that you have your pets ready. If we have power outages, we have emergency plans. Do you have a plan? Do you need assistance? Remember it is better to plan ahead and not need it than to need it and not have a plan. We are willing to help where we can. Feel free to message us if you have no power and need to keep vulnerable pets warm. We have snakes and lizards as well as other animals that need warmth at the rescue and there is a plan for them. We have our building to keep them in, but if the power is out, they are moving to my home. If the power is out they are moving to another family members home. I could keep going, as we have about 6 places we can go to before seeking for a place. We also have generators and heaters but don't rely on them, as they are only for short outages....but the point is, start thinking about it now. Where will you take your pets to keep them warm? Do you have enough gas in your car to take them there?

Stay safe and warm! I hope no one needs to use their emergency plan, but I hope everyone has a plan just in case! Message us if you get in a bind and need help. We will see what we can do to help. We want you and your pets to stay safe and warm!!

Still sore but looking a lot better! These were from this morning. He is a sweet piggie. I really like him. He might become a permanent fixture here. I worry about his fate if not. He walks with a limp because of nerve damage from being shot. He needs some special care still. Not many people would sink the time and money into an animal that was probably meant for someone freezer to begin with. We personally think he has been through enough and deserves to live like a king from now on.

We picked up a poor piggie today. He has been shot with an arrow and has a small wound on his shoulder, but he has a lot of edema in his legs and is not breathing well. I am assuming heart failure. Hopefully the vet can reverse whatever is going on. He seems sweet, just miserable. He had every opportunity to hurt one of us, but didn't try. I really feel bad for him. We haven't had a piggie this sick before. Poor guy! Please say a prayer for him and give thanks to those that took care of him until we picked him up. He was getting the royal treatment. Food, apples, big water bucket.....you can tell the people that found him were good caring people. It warms our heart when we deal with those that care. Cincinnati Animal CARE was the first to help, but they have so many dogs and cats needing homes that they just didn't have room for him. Please send anyone you know looking for a pet to Cincinnati Animal CARE. They are a very caring organization and we have worked with them off and on for years. We have never had a bad experience. When my children were little, it was SPCA and I adopted from them many times when we lived in Ohio. This is Their picture because we are getting him settled in, but this will give you an idea of what he looks like

We went to Famiky Farm and Home in Harrison today to get feed. They weee cheaper for some things. Our bill was about $30 cheaper this week. Every little bit helps, especially when you spend $300 every two weeks on animal feed. Today I spent $270. That means more produce can be purchased Monday. We usually spend about $120 at the produce auction for yummy fresh foods for the animals. We will be able to get them some extra fresh foods this week. The pigs will be happy!

We are up to 14 piggies! We need homes and donations!! If you can spare a dollar or two to help feed them, we would truly appreciate it! We have been taking in about 10-20 animals a week for the last couple of weeks. Rabbits, pot bellied pigs, roosters, guinea pigs.....they keep coming. We have over $2,000 in bills right now. We are going to need to raise about $10,000 to get through the next few months of feed and hay. If you can spare a dollar, it would go to feed some cute little piggies!!
