Vectis Sir Alan Patrick Hexpon
(11th January 2021 - 9th August 2023

Alan was one of the final hamsters brought in to salvage what was left of the breeding side of Metallica Hamstery but various circumstances meant that it wasn’t to be and after testing positive for diabetes a year ago, it was decided that Alan would be kept on in the newly renamed pet-only ‘Asphodel Hamsters’ until the end came.

Alan was a laid back hamster who went about his business quietly and contently to the end.

With the last of the Robos now gone and only two Chinese remaining, things are very different from how they were but this decision has been made for the best. Hamsters will always be a part of my life and I hope that I will always be able to have one as a pet but my days of having the numbers I did are definitely over.

After enjoying a life of seven years and four months, Benny the Guinea Pig crossed the bridge during the night on Friday. He was a much loved piggie, particularly by Grandma and Grandpa Fluffs and his extended hamily and he will be missed by all. Sleep well Benny. You’ll find Frankie waiting to meet you at the bridge.

Two years ago today my beautiful Lily was born and during those two years, there have been changes and decisions made but if there’s one thing that I am always certain on it’s how much I treasure and cherish every little personality that I am entrusted with.

As the majority of the hamsters of Asphodel are now two or approaching it within the next few months, there will be further changes to come but there will always be room in my heart for a hamster.

Happy Birthday Lils! I hope I get to enjoy your craziness for while yet!

You can’t blame it on Alan any more girls as he left for his breeding holiday last week.

The initial reaction I get from Lily if I ever go away! Lily is not good at the silent treatment for long though and finds that being noisy is far more effective in getting what she wants.

Where my love of the Chinese Hamster began… I bought Meat (named after Meat Loaf) from Pets at Home in January 2012. I had originally set out to buy a pair of ‘Russian’ Hamsters but Meat’s brother Stitch caught my eye and that was it… they had to come home with us. Meat died in June 2015 but I have a lot to thank him for!

Based a few miles outside of Bath, Somerset, Metallica Hamstery is a full member of the Southern Hamster Club and an associate member of the Midland Hamster Club. All of the hamsters at Metallica are loved as members of my family and I pride myself on providing a home that cherishes and responds to their individual personalities. An Exhibitor and Breeder of Chinese and Roborovski Hamsters, Metallica Hamstery has been home to hamsters of all species commonly kept as pets although I specialise primarily in dwarf hamsters.
