Dearest Sparkie, no need to be concerned… the world may look different from various perspectives, but your courage to go forth anyway will inspire others to do the same. You’re wisely curious, unique and funny.

Meet Ember’s other three beauties!🔥🔥 🔥

Sweet Ashton has been wrestling and wobbling around quite well in this third week of living!

Next is dazzling Blaze who has a beautiful deep black streak down his back and is a healthy, big boy.

Lastly, Hira - Japanese for “fire” - has more of their Siamese (stray)dad in her. Hira is especially social, very observant, and playful.

All are adorable, loved, and nurtured. They’ll be ready for their forever homes in early October.

Meet the trio who were entangled in their umbilical cords at birth. They had a recheck at the vet today after two weeks of meds, and I’m so happy to let you know that they received a wonderful report! I’d love to introduce you to these resilient cuties by name today as we celebrate this good news.

Our friend and past adopter, , came up with names based on their mama, Ember. Thank you so much Beverly!!

Brigid, in the first photo, got her name from the Goddess of fire and healing. She lost her foot, but the Goddess in her isn’t letting that slow her down. She’s a feisty Soul!

Char is the friendliest girl, very observant and loves each of her siblings.

Lastly, Sparkie healed her thick scar tissue at the umbilical area and is the life of the kitten parties they’ve begun to have.

If you’re interested in adopting one - or a pair - of these sweet kittens when they reach eight weeks old, we’re accepting adoption applications now to begin the process. Tomorrow, I’ll introduce you to their other three siblings.

Minnow and Flora are back from their spay surgery and are taking it easy today. They’re both the sweetest girls who love to chase each other around.

The other day, Minnow couldn’t find Flora, and she cried as she searched all the hideaways for her. When Flora jumped down from the top of the cat tower, Minnow ran over to her with joy.
Having seen this, it confirmed my thought that they’re a bonded pair that deserve a home where they can stay together. Who is ready to add these irresistibly adorable kittens to their family?

Jewel has the cat room to herself and is taking in all the focused attention she’s receiving. She’s come a long way from being left on her own when her person passed away. She greets us at the door with the sweetest meow and strong purr, and she’s even started touching noses with Minnow!

She’s going to make a wonderful feline friend for someone. Please reach out if you think that someone is you!

The feline presence in one’s life can only raise the vibration and enhance deeper awareness.

What a gift… I believe that’s why they’re so worshiped in certain areas around the world. This work is truly an honor for us.

There isn’t a toy Minnow turns away. She’s a ball of energy and very sweet.

She and her sister, Flora, have come a long way from living as strays at a local marina. They’re both resilient, love to be petted, curious, and fun! They’ll be available for adoption after their spay surgery next week!

Thank you SO much to those of you who sent in donations to support the vet expenses for Ember’s kittens. We continue to welcome any amount you are able to contribute and appreciate your consideration!

We’re keeping positive thoughts that the antibiotics will keep infections away from the trio after being tangled in their umbilical cords at birth. The whole litter is nursing well and slowly opening their beautiful eyes. Mama Ember is in love with each and every one of these babies, and we’re grateful she’s giving them the best care possible.

Eckhart Tolle says “When you find your Soul’s purpose in life, you can’t not do it. It will follow you.”

When we moved to another city this winter, we needed to figure out how or where we could be of service and what we would do with our kitten rescue, Nahimana Forest. It has become apparent!

If you’ve been following us, you know how Jewel came “knocking” on our door when her person passed away, needing our help to provide respite from the outdoors and find her a loving, forever home.

Ember, Minnow, and Flora also made us aware of their presence at a local marina and they, too, have a temporary home until their new people find them.

Mama Ember’s kittens - now beginning to open their eyes to the world about them - put us at capacity and have taken over some additional space here until they can be integrated with the residents of the “Cat Room” in about 5 weeks after Ember is spayed and returned to the marina.

The three kittens who were entangled in their umbilical cords when born last week will require ongoing vet care and perhaps surgery once they’re big enough. One little tabby girl had an unexpected ER visit last night when we noticed one of her back paws was twisted and dangling. It was removed at the vet’s office… She’ll have a recheck tomorrow, and we’re hopeful antibiotics will keep away infections and pain medications will keep her comfortable as she heals. We hope that we can avoid euthanization and schedule an amputation surgery once she is big enough.

We need support at this point, as the vet bills for Ember and her kittens, including Minnow and Flora who will have their spay surgeries next week, are significant. We’re a 501c3 nonprofit kitten rescue and are volunteer-driven. 100% of our revenue goes to the care of our rescues.

We’re very grateful for the loving support we’ve received during the past six years and appreciate any amount... ANY amount... you can donate towards the kittens’ vet care through our website: https://www.nahimanaforest.org/giving 🙏

One-Week-Old Peaceful Little Beings❣️

We’re so grateful they’re safe inside, oblivious to the drenching rain outside. Our thoughts are with all animals and people who are being affected by Tropical Storm Debby.

Some people shared with me that they never spayed/neutered their pet because they didn’t want their furry friend to be in pain or suffer.

Ember, who was about to have her second litter of kittens in five months, had her babies last night. Six little ones! Six!!

We noticed in the wee hours of the morning that she wasn’t nursing them and seemed a bit disturbed. When inspecting the kittens, we noticed three were “stuck” together, tangled up in their umbilical cords and an amniotic sac. We did what we could, but quickly realized this was for a vet to carefully cut to release them. Fast forward - They are all free from entanglement and back with Ember. Other than keeping an eye on one tiny bent and purple paw, they all seem fine now.

When we see this side of the story of a young kitten having kittens with complications, it’s a different perspective on suffering and pain.

Ember found her way into our trap this morning - finally! This is such a relief as it will be easier to care for her and her babies in the safety of our nursery room. She’s nervous, but we’ve been softly talking to her throughout the day and hope that she will ease into this place of respite soon. More to come…

Since we began watching Minnow as a feral kitten, we noticed she was missing half of one back foot. Upon her capture, we could see no sign of infection, and she didn’t seem bothered by what was not there. Still, we were concerned and had her evaluated by a vet today.

We learned that her foot stopped growing around the “ankle” area and this is simply how she will be. She gets around very well, and there is a pad on the end of her cute nub (seen in photo) that protects against infection. We think her shorter side gives her even more character. She runs around like a little ninja and sometimes hops like a bunny.

Minnow and sister, Flora, will be adoptable after their spay appointment/recovery period on August 15th. In the meantime, back to playing with their favorite toy - the Tipsy Stick!

Day three and great progress socializing Minnow and Flora! The sisters are allowing more contact - love to be petted and tolerate being held for a few short moments. We interact with them five to six times daily and it seems life in the “cat room” is being accepted as their new normal.

Both girls are slowly engaging in play with toys, especially the Tipsy Stick. It’s been our experience with feral and stray kittens that playtime does not always come naturally where toys replace prey.

Minnow has her first vet visit this week as she is missing half of her right rear paw. There are no obvious signs of infection or pain and we are hopeful that she will ultimately keep that leg. We’ll have more to share on these beautiful little ones soon. 💚

We’ve been working on a TNR initiative with a feline family at a nearby marina. Momma cat, Ember, is very wise and moves around a lot, but we were able to capture her two kittens in live traps this week. We’ll continue caring for Ember, who is already pregnant again, until we can get her trapped and spayed.

In the meantime, meet Minnow and Flora. Two sisters, who could have been pregnant themselves in a month or two. They will be spayed and vaccinated next month and will be looking for their forever home soon afterward. For now, they’re receiving a lot of attention and their hissy nature quickly softens to purrs while we pet them. We believe they will make wonderful feline companions very soon with this consistent socialization.

Nahimana Forest Animal Sanctuary

We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization in the state of North Carolina, dedicated to serving the needs of abandoned/neglected animals. Though our initial focus is rescuing and providing adoptive services for kittens, our future expansion will allow us to work with other domesticated and, some, farm animals. Additionally, we maintain a Certified Wildlife Habitat on our 22 acres of forest land.

Because we are all connected at the deeper part of our existence, our service for animals and the land stems from our messages of the worthiness of all living creatures and ways in which we are bound together. We complete the circle of this sanctuary as licensed foster parents for girls who have experienced neglect, by providing the opportunity for shared healing, respect, and responsibilities for, and with, animals and nature.
