When we started our kitten rescue six years ago, we had a lot of amazing support in the community. One such sweet being is Joanna, a head vet tech at the Animal Hospital of Boone. She was instrumental in getting our kittens their best vet care and also organized two fundraisers, selling her handmade crafts to support our rescue!

We’re thrilled that she continues to play an important role in our lives, now as a maker for our cat-themed shop, Cats Out of the Bag!! Joanna has lovingly crafted these crocheted mice, complete with curly tails, bells, and an irresistible infusion of catnip.

A cat’s eyes hold a mesmerizing depth, a silent language that transcends words. They are twin orbs of mystery, reflecting not only the light of the world but also the essence of the feline spirit.

In the golden-green, amber, or icy blue of their gaze, we see curiosity, calm, and wildness intertwined. When they narrow into slits, they speak of vigilance or rest, and when they widen into dark pools, they tell tales of wonder or play.

Each glance feels like a question, an acknowledgment, or a secret only they understand. Their eyes are mirrors of emotion, flickering with affection when they blink slowly, revealing trust in the simplest of gestures. They hold the wisdom of ancient hunters and the vulnerability of creatures who have learned to share their lives with humans.

How precious are Sami’s white splashes from his head to the tip of his tail?! Now that he’s healed from his neuter procedure and in the “Cat Room”, he’s a completely different little being. Sweet meows flow from his mouth as he calls to us now, and he bounces around the room from one toy to another.

He’s absolutely ready for his forever home! Who will be so lucky to have Sami as their furry friend? 🌟

Nanuk and Copper share an unspoken bond that only siblings can understand, and their favorite pastime is playing together.

Whether it’s leaping high into the air to catch a dangling feather toy or scaling their trusty cat tower like it’s Mount Everest, they always manage to make their adventures look effortless and fun.

One of their favorite toys? A simple ball of crumpled paper. To Nanuk and Copper, it’s more precious than gold. Sometimes, Nanuk will carry it in his mouth, proudly showing off his “prey”.

Whether they’re tumbling through the air, chasing each other at lightning speed, or snuggling up for a post-fun snooze, these two brothers are a heartwarming reminder of the simple joys of kittenhood.

We want to thank all of you for the support you showed through the Cats Out of the Bag fundraiser for Friends of Normie cat rescue in California. Many of you shared our posts, offered prayers for the collective, and made some purchases through our cat-themed shop, Cats Out of the Bag, in support of this mission.

We created this shop to have the opportunity to do just this - provide a means for other rescues to gain funds to help be the voice and care for their feline communities. 💔 Our Hearts Are With You, California 💔

To our friends and family in California, we are deeply saddened by the devastating fires affecting your communities. Our hearts go out to everyone who has been impacted—those who have lost homes, cherished memories, or even loved ones. Please know you are in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

We are also mindful of the countless animals who are displaced and frightened as they flee for safety. Pets and wildlife alike are facing unimaginable challenges, and we’re holding space in our hearts for their well-being.

If you’d like to help us in our efforts to support a cat rescue in Southern California, Friends of Normie, who are working hard to organize displaced cats in foster homes, we’re donating 10% of our sales today through Sunday to help them cover food, vet costs, etc.. for their fosters. Sami’s Transformation: From Hisses to Heart-Melts

When Sami first came to us, he was scared and unsure - hissing to keep the world at bay. But with patience, love, and gentle encouragement, this shy boy has blossomed into a total sweetheart.

First, he allowed short pets before darting behind the nearest object to hide. Then, he started walking across our legs while we sat on the floor, testing his trust. Now? He lets us pick him up and settles right into our laps for cozy pet sessions. 💕

He was very brave for his neuter surgery yesterday and came out like a champ!

And those slow, loving blinks he gives? 🥹 Pure kitty love. Sami is ready to find his forever person or family—someone who will continue to show him the kindness and love he’s come to know. He’s a gentle soul looking for a quiet, understanding home where he can thrive.

Our three musketeers, Scottie, Sami and Sadie are growing beautifully, and becoming more snuggly every day! Even our shy boy, Sami, is walking over our legs and/or lying next to them during our playtime.

Their spay/neuter appointments are scheduled this week through our wonderful local TNR Project from where they came. They’ll be all set for their new, forever homes soon!

Nanuk is a smart and playful little adventurer who loves to chase, wrestle with his brother, and scale cat towers like a true pro!

When he’s not showing off his moves, he often falls asleep on Sean’s chest or lap. He’s a sweet snuggle buddy.

Once crying at the top of his voice outside an apartment door after being left behind with his brother, he’s safe now, surrounded by love, and dreaming of getting to his forever home.

Nahimana Forest Animal Sanctuary

We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization in the state of North Carolina, dedicated to serving the needs of abandoned/neglected animals. Though our initial focus is rescuing and providing adoptive services for kittens, our future expansion will allow us to work with other domesticated and, some, farm animals. Additionally, we maintain a Certified Wildlife Habitat on our 22 acres of forest land.

Because we are all connected at the deeper part of our existence, our service for animals and the land stems from our messages of the worthiness of all living creatures and ways in which we are bound together. We complete the circle of this sanctuary as licensed foster parents for girls who have experienced neglect, by providing the opportunity for shared healing, respect, and responsibilities for, and with, animals and nature.
