While our tiny sweet kitten rescues are finding their perfect homes, please remember Zeb who needs one too! At six months old (a wonderful age!), he takes a minute to warm up and get to know you, but he’s such a sweetheart who loves to be pet and part of a family.

He can play independently with a spiral toy, but he sure loves to chase wand toys and rope with a human… he’s an energetic boy.

He would make a great play companion for a young cat who may need a friend, so please share with those who might be looking!

Selene and Reese (now Loki) — adopted together! 💛

This animal-loving family had recently said goodbye to their beloved cat due to cancer, and when they saw Selene listed for adoption, their hearts opened once again.

Knowing that two kittens are better than one — and learning that Selene and Reese were already friends — they made the beautiful decision to keep them together. Now these two sweethearts get to grow up side by side, surrounded by love, snuggles, and so much attention (we have the photo evidence to prove it!).

We’re incredibly grateful to this kind and compassionate family for giving Selene and Loki the forever home they deserve.

Sugar had a wonderful surprise recently… she was reunited with her brother, Java, and their friend, Honey!!

They’ve been playing and getting reacquainted here at Nahimana. Sugar has been showing them how to play with her favorite toys, and, as you can see in the last photo, she can’t get enough snuggles with Java!

They’re a really sweet group, and it will be a treat preparing them for their permanent homes.

Helios Found his Forever Family! 🎉✨🎉

This expressive, adorable ball of fluff was scooped up a few days ago and begins his next chapter in the Wilmington area. Helios, now Grady, has already captured the heart of his new mom who says he talks to her - a lot! He’s becoming familiar with his new cat companion, Caper, and figuring out what things called dogs are! We know he’ll fit right in quickly and will fully embrace his new life filled with love, play, and joy! We’re so grateful for this connection!

Introducing our newest heart-stealer here at Nahimana Kitten Rescue: Sugar! This petite beauty is equal parts cuddlebug and toy-swatting ninja.

She’s got some serious skills on the cat tower, where she daintily plays with her favorite tiny toys. Toss a toy into the cat tunnel and she’s ON IT like it’s the Kitty Olympics. But her ultimate obsession? The three-tiered ball spinner—she gets completely lost in the moment, batting those balls like it’s her full-time job (and she’s due for a promotion).

Elegant. Playful. Lovable. She’s Sugar. And she’s simply divine.

William has found his dream home!! 🎉💙🎉

William is now living his best life with a young family who I had the pleasure of meeting! This kind stay at home mom has two very sweet children. Isn’t it wonderful that they’ll all grow up together, along with their young pup friend?

Since they got home, we have seen a video of William playing with their son on the floor, ever-so-gently. Mom said, “He’s doing so well!! He’s a perfect fit. Thank you so much ❤️”

Cuteness Alert: Meet Reese

This little guy has a BIG story and an even bigger heart. 💛 Like many of our intakes over the past six years, Reese was abandoned — but his courage and sweetness changed everything. A kind woman was walking past a church when Reese ran out from a ditch screaming for help. He didn’t stop there — he followed her home, step for step, like a loyal little puppy, all the way inside her front door.

Many people take desperate measures to abandon their unwanted pets at a home, church, or business where they hope other people will take them in. Please always encourage your friends and family to spay/neuter their pets to avoid litters of kittens who are unwanted.

At around 12 weeks old, Reese is one of the cuddliest kittens we’ve ever known. His purrs go on forever (seriously, the Energizer Bunny’s got nothing on this guy), and he loves to be held belly up, gently placing his paw on your cheek like he’s claiming your heart.

He kneads his blanket like a biscuit-making pro, makes feline friends with ease, and is just so full of love.

Reese has a neuter appointment next week, but he’s ready to start accepting applications now — and whoever adopts him is truly getting a gem.

Adoption Announcement: Sweet Rosalie Has Found Her Family! 💗

Some dreams are so special, they wait patiently until the perfect moment to come true — and this was one of them.

Meet this amazing young animal lover, who has been dreaming of a ginger kitten for over a year. With his birthday coming up this week, his mom packed him in their car and made the drive all the way from Surf City — and was completely surprised with the best gift he could imagine: Rosalie, the kitten of his dreams.

Just look at the joy on his face — pure magic.

Rosalie is a beautiful, curious, and affectionate ginger kitten who now gets to grow up with a best friend by her side (and another feline buddy already waiting at home!). She is already so loved — and we know this is the beginning of a lifetime of adventures, snuggles, and special memories for the whole family.

Happy birthday to this sweet boy and happy forever home to Rosalie!

Helios and Selene are as playful as they are beautiful - very!! Their favorite activity is chasing a wand toy all around the room, and we have two flying in all directions for them during playtime! They also have fun with kitten wrestling and chasing one another through the cat tunnel!

These gorgeous siblings would be happy to be adopted as a pair or into a family who has a playful kitten/young cat. They love people too!

Triple Adoption Day!! ❤️❤️❤️

Frida joined Magnolia and Mister after her sister passed at just two weeks old. What started as a plan to adopt Frida and Magnolia quickly turned into something even more beautiful — when their future mom saw how inseparable all three kittens had become, she knew in her heart they belonged together.

As a longtime supporter, friend, and experienced animal caretaker, she opened her home (and heart) to all three. They made the journey to Virginia like little champs and are settling in so well.

We’re so grateful to the kindhearted transport drivers who helped get them safely to their forever home. 🙏

Here’s what their adopter had to say:
“They are wonderful and so outgoing ! I love them and couldn’t have asked for sweeter. Marigold is a purring cuddly sweetheart. Mister also, after eating cooked chicken with rice. Nahimana Forest Animal Sanctuary

We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization in the state of North Carolina, dedicated to serving the needs of abandoned/neglected animals. Though our initial focus is rescuing and providing adoptive services for kittens, our future expansion will allow us to work with other domesticated and, some, farm animals. Additionally, we maintain a Certified Wildlife Habitat on our 22 acres of forest land.

Because we are all connected at the deeper part of our existence, our service for animals and the land stems from our messages of the worthiness of all living creatures and ways in which we are bound together. We complete the circle of this sanctuary as licensed foster parents for girls who have experienced neglect, by providing the opportunity for shared healing, respect, and responsibilities for, and with, animals and nature.
